Great video. Very relevant to me, as I am putting together a small set for my first live show for over 30 years! Sorry I missed the premiere last night. I got back late and decided to have a jam with my Polyend Play+. This is my central brain equivalent to your Octatrack

Hey! This was really useful! Getting the last pieces of my rig soon. I'm using a sampler as a field recording based atmosphere/bedding and want to try use it for some sort rhythmic sense as well, and a couple synths, so this helps clarify how to structure things with a workflow in place. Still learning music theory on the side as well, so lots to go through still. Loving your videos! Thank you so much for sharing these tricks!

DID you really need to use the Korg as the MPC has some nice synth plugins built in? Not being picky just curious.

Great tips as usual! Playing live if nervous (which is normal and you want to channel that adrenaline) would and still does make me want to add more musical elements when really I needed to learn how to chill and wait for it. Less is definitely more. Less is also more regarding equipment. A big no-no I learned the hard way was to use, for example, a new machine that I didn’t totally fully know how to use. Wait till the next gig. Then, plans B, C, and D. Once I was playing with Korg machines and daisy chaining the synchronization using the Korg’s own system of cables. One link failed and it was a train wreck. Since then, every instrument has an independent direct midi input from a midi through box. When I used a lot more instruments than now and I improvised exclusively I would have two separate midi loops that I synced manually. A learning curve but worth it. Finally I bring an iPad with me with my tracks in the event of total meltdown and catastrophe. Not performing is never an option. Record everything you play and listen to it. When performing live, if you make a mistake, repeat it. Then repeat it again. No longer a mistake, now a motif. Good times, thanks AK!

Hi, bro! I would like to say that you need to trust your equipment. When I was young and green. When the grass was greener. I had to cancel my performance due to a faulty tuning in one guitar pedal. But at that moment, I was looking for the reason in the main hardware. I thought a ghost had appeared in my synthesizers and was unsuccessfully restarting them. Now I can assess the readiness of the setup settings at a glance thanks to this terrible experience. Please tell me, how do you make transitions between songs? Thank you bro for being there!)

Have you considered reintroducing an MPC or similar sampler to your live kit? Something about the potential of live looping with melodic or drum sample slices seems like a very expressive and quickly iterated form of music creation. Also, I still am of the opinion that some electronic musicians who lean away from dj mode and more towards live set and loop mode, should probably route some synths into a 70+key midi keyboard. And then learn to jam on some keys (or play 2 short keyboards at the same time, maybe? Juno+a miniMoog? Pfff...that would be awesome. Especially with a loop station pedal.) This type of music ain't simple tho. And everyone needs to find their own optimal path to an optimized workflow.

Can someone offer some advice to a newb regarding bass hardware? I’m eyeing the TD-3 and also the Behringer Model D. My thoughts are that the Model D is probably more flexible in usage, but the TD-3 might be a better fit for someone with very limited piano proficiency? I currently have a Polyend Play, SP404 mk2, Pro VS mini (Prophet Clone). My usage intent for a bass synth is both live recording some songs and also as material to feed the SP404 for loops and chops. My current style of music is mainly a fusion of Funk, House, Dub, with a bit of psychedelic flavor. Anyone have thoughts, or advice on what I should consider when choosing?

To be honest, they're 2 different machines really. I loved the Model D and have used it quite a bit (check out my early vids). Please be advised that a Moog style synth is very different from a 303 type machine, however... If you fancy a bit of acid house, the TD3 might be your thing. Another suggestion might be to lay them both in bed, go to sleep and watch their bsby grow on ya. The SH 101. That would be the hybrid on which you can do both things... Good luck

Hi bro! On live, there is a question of logistics and the cost of the setup. I would be very disappointed to lose my Rev 2 due to an accidental bump during transportation. Therefore, I take an analog in exceptional cases. Then there is the question of universality. On korg Kronos, you can do as much with one hand as no analog can do. And of course. The bass, like the kick of the barrel, is the basis for people who have paid their money to dance and forget about their business. There is no compromise here. I have to take risks and carry analog solutions Leipzig s with me for the bass. This old man is giving heat) I wish you good parties with a generous audience!

what i cant understand which is probably obvious , but the main mixer has only two stereo inputs ? i thought theres a lot on synths that need a independant stereo input. But if thats beeing used by percussion and other stereo bits like samples. I find my mixer mono channels are not used . Like i dont use them, i think i need one mono channel for kick and one for bass and the rest should be all stereo faders and inputs ?

All sounds are analog in the end..will analog circuitry give a more direct interaction with the analog domain of sound? Sure, yes positive logically selfexplaining undeniable..but since weight and szise is a factor for live sets its undeniable that digital wins in that department. The stage setups of early electronic music performers filled a truck

Even though the genre is different: I feel like listening to someone like Victor Wooten should almost be required if someone wants to understand lowend sound and how it creates the so called "groove" in music. There are many excellent bass players in this world. Both current and old school. Victor Wooten is just probably one of the easiest to parse due to his proclivities towards modern electric bass as a solo instrument. "The Lesson"...kinda actually is a lesson in music theory.
