I want to say that watching this was very painful. Im not german but I lived across the Rhein river in Deutz about 2 years in 60s. many of locations in this film I know very well. war is hell and should only be for self defense. the rebuilding of Germany after the war is a testament of the heart of germans who I like very much.the germans deserve to have their country and its values and great culture.

Words fail - I have been to this beautiful City, it is unimaginable that this happened - these pictures are to me a clear testament that their are no winners in war - we all lost - and yet we never seem to learn.

It was wartime and in the aftermath it's very easy to say that the terrible bombing of the beautiful city of Köln wasn't necessary, not to say it was an act of barbarism. Call it the sensation of that moment, but the Allied forces were in a race with the Russians to reach Berlin. Secondly they wanted clear the area as much as possible before the ground troops arrived. Well trained German troops could hide everywhere and their Tiger tanks were superiour to the little Sherman tanks. I feel sorry for the civilians of Köln, too bad for the beautifull architecture, books and art that got lost, however every war, (even justified) is dirty. Even today you can't solve everyting with snipers and drones.

the video is absolutely amazing - the damage was more than anyone could imagine - I feel sorry for the German citizens and the courage or foolishness of their leaders or both is incredible - the bombers really did a job and also took heavily losses - Hitler wasted time on the inaccurate V-2 and should have developed the jet fighters - CAN you also add English subtitles to this video

interesting that the americans came from the northwest ( from holland ) what i want to know is , did the allied forces not come trough the eifel ? did they not went to kohln from luxembourg after they won the battle of the bulge there ? seems odd as i am in adenau (eifel , 50 km south of kohln) and there was no hard fighting and/or bit troops movement there i was told
