I’ve seen some comments saying that Kody is a little all over the place, but he’s really not. What he’s doing is painting a picture of actual Crippin’. How the violence came along with the stature, status, and glory. He’s giving you stories of him putting in work, but at the same time it’s painting a picture of how these historical banging figures were able to have the rep and shine they had. It’s really amazing storytelling because when he describes it, it’s subtle.

Monster has to be one of the most verbally gifted humans to ever walk the earth or participated in the life style. Looking up some of the words he uses it demonstrates that he has a deep sense and over standing of the way vocabulary can be used to fully get across your point. #TIP Monster.

Big dawgs vocabulary and way of explaining things is fuckin impeccable. Honorable man, and I’m not saying he’s honorable for the things he’s done. I’m saying he’s honorable because he takes full accountability for the things he’s done and doesn’t glorify it. He lets us know that all that shit was dumb but he was intoxicated by the street life and lived it to the fullest.

I’d love to hear the true perspective of some like kev Mac on how it feels deep down to sit here and talk to and look at monster kody. Knowing the history between their respective hoods and their rivalry. I’m not sure but I THINK kev mac is a generation removed from monster (they both look unbelievably young it’s hard to place) but I’m sure growing up and being told what and who monster kody is had to have some type of effect on kev mac. The fact that these 2 brothas can sit around eachother and talk and share REAL hisSTORY (lower cased on the ‘his’ for a reason) knowing the beefs and the violence that transpired.....unbelievably. Astonishing. Respectable. I salute you whole heartedly. I already knew....but this is my favorite and gonna be my favorite all time KMV. Monster is a fucking character to say the least. Thank y’all. I appreciate this.

Part of it is generational. I don't know personally, but judging by the timelines of the two brothers, I don't think there is much overlap between them. But still, I don't know shit. Big ups either way. Kev Mac deserves, and will eventually get his rightful credit for doing what no one has done before him.

Peace. I have read several comments on Kody/Sanyika’s mind. I could go throughout this interview and point out several extremely insightful and critical comments that tell me all he really needs is time to clarify his thoughts. His intelligence is first rate and more importantly he has not lost the sense of empathy, that most important of human faculties which is a necessary precondition for any movement towards reconciliation with self and community. I just want to point out one comment: do you recall how he described Tookie? His description is the most telling and articulate summation of what captured the minds and hearts of young men who we should not forget were children and pre-pubescent children in many cases. I have not heard a more innocent and accurate summarization of why Crips took off as it did. What you heard was a 56 year old man channeling a child’s mind. What you see him struggling with has to do with the fact that he still had a child’s brain as a physiological fact and the 2 are very different things. His is a struggle that many of us share: how to reconcile ourselves with all that we have experienced. I have said it before and I’ll say it again: while we focus on the fact that KMV’s oral urban history library is worthy of Netflix, etc.’s attention, I believe the library will be one day recognized for its value to academics who will study its content for years in order to better understand what happened in LA and which has been the source of years of unnameable pain to many there. LA is and was the most extreme example of what it meant to live in a post-industrial, post modern society and in particular, black, brown and Asian. Peace to everyone out there who still has the ability to empathize and who have trouble sometimes staying focused or even finding the words to express themselves. KMV Urban Oral History Library will outlive us all; no Ph.D. Could have amassed all of this and for this alone he has saved countless academics hours of valuable time doing field work. If nothing else, these schools ought to recognize what he’s done for social science and the possibility of community healing.

THANK YOU KEV AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! MAN when Monster tells the story of first time meeting and riding with Raymond Washington, Tookie, and TBone in the car listening to Zoom I can vividly see through the 12 years old Monster Kody eyes in his memory when telling that story because it was like a spiritual awakening of Crippin!! Then what’s icing on the cake is the egg sandwich story when Monster emulates and sounds like Raymond Washington and nobody never knew what kind of voice Raymond Washington had which that shit is amazing!!!!!!
