I really respect this uncle for his attitude and his wife for his care for him. There are however lots of able bodied ones and maybe some from one country taking advantage of this situation,

Really respect and love this cute and humble uncle attitude. He is always grateful for what he receives. ❤
Hopefully this programme can be spread to more locals for a better understanding of this whole license system. Theres really too many ‘illegal selling of tissues’ around in singapore and it kind of caused alot hiatus at times too. Alot of times at causeway point(also between mrts/bus interchange and areas between civic centres) i see theres like at least 5 tissue uncle/aunties sitting around to sell tissues, and some others is like those play music for donations one. The bad impression i have from these groups is that they can actually scold each other claiming things like fighting the best spot to sell, sit too close blah blah. Apparently they are just not genuinely look like a person who needs help like that uncle in this show. Not to even say some(idk is illegal or not) ‘youths volunteers’ calims they are from some food bank or wtv ask for a fixed amount of minimum $10 and up of donations for elderly. They don’t even mention which organisation they just say will go to respective charity to the elderly. This whole supposed kind acts has been heavily misused by alot of illegal people just because the crowd don’t know theres this licence to get donations or sell tissue thing.. just very heartache that all these amounts would have done a great tax refund for people who donates, and ultimately supposed to also helped so much to those who really need the donations more than the illegal sellers.. hopefully can do more of such programmes especially where to report those illegal and misused sellers or volunteers, where to search up if their license is legit or not

Minimum $1 per pack at Raffles Place MRT from a handicap. How come government don’t place them to work in factory instead, because despite lost of a limb they can still work in production that’s is on the seat

i seldom step out of my house nowadays but when i do and see old folks that are just as old as me selling tissue papers, i really feel sad for them.

我曾经看过一个老伯写这行字在纸皮上:Every dog has its day. 每个人背后都有一段故事。生活艰难,不是迫于无奈他们这把年纪了也不会在街上日晒雨淋卖纸巾,放工后唯一能解压和放松的方法也就是喝点啤酒抽个烟。
A lot people see it as licensed begging. Honestly, we are rich enough to help these people, only 26 of them, give them say social help about 3k a month. Total only 78k a month less than 1 million a year. Make it illegal so citizens won't be harassed by illegal sellers.
@nicholasgoh35262 күн бұрын
That’s what I’ve been saying as well. Singapore citizens is only about 3.6 million. Out of this, only a small percentage of them needs help and we are rich enough to do more. However social security has always been an issue. Government still has this stand that we are not a social welfare state and people will stop working if we give them money. The few hundred dollars of benefits that these poor people get each month is pathetic and grossly inadequate. Look at the unemployment benefits that they have just introduced instead of having unemployment insurance - which they again said people will not want to look for work after getting the ‘huge’ sum of insurance payouts. Granted that there will be a very small percentage of people who will look for loopholes to take advantage of these policies but are we cannot disregard policies that will benefit 90% of the beneficiaries just because of the 10% free loaders.

In the olden days though we don't have " colorful " h d b flats and condominium and flashy cars but never see any old age selling tissue papers at train stations, whereas into the modern age we have seniors instead of taking care of their grandchildren happily but end up selling tissue papers to make ends meet whereas our small island population government ministers and president are being paid world highest salary than big countries, even America president salary are not as high as ours leaders. What a shame keep bragging first world country. Even our small fractions of seniors that have built up Singapore what we are today government still not willing to fork out more to look after them, even America have jobless claims and welfare.

@@tanpengjoo7205 Last time I have a colleague from China who could not finish his first meal in a foodcourt when he first landed in Singapore. I thought he was not used to the food but it turned out that he could not stand the sight of grannies around him collecting plates and wiping tables. He asked me why we are allowing these grannies do all these manual work. This was unheard of even in China. It was embarrassing. He left Singapore after just one year as he realised Singapore is not a first world country like what it said it is.
O, they must have a license? When i saw those young or old handicap on the street, sure i will give them money. Even though they selling things a not, since i was 17 n now i am 63. Thanks.😊

Glad tat this topic is brought up…. Authorities must do their parts to clamp down illegal tissue seller (especially those from China), so tat our 26 sellers will have bigger market shares and better earnings. Singapore is not big, but dunno why Authorities always slow to react……

did I hear wrongly, this less fortunate group still need to pay for their license fee at $120 yearly? probably the authority can help by not charging them the license fee.
@smoothlikebutter614Күн бұрын
I think the reason to set a charge is to not let them “misuse” the license? A chinese saying is also 授人以鱼不如授人以渔, basically means you cannot help them forever why not teach them how to help themselves. Yes, they are very unfortunate but that does not mean they only left the option to ONLY beg money from others for the rest of their lives. Let this license selling tissue be part of their ‘job’.

Why look look for licenses the very fact that they are old. Old why go through to look so strictly. If u can just spare 2 or 3 dollars just give. Don’t waste all the talk n brain to check this n that For so long I just give n never take their tissue n never got scolding for it. Love our own senior singaporean unless they walk faster than u then keep your money. 😊
