Hi Whip.The k&n oil filter seems to be decent quality however here in Australia k&n are very expensive. For my ford it is about $25.00.There are equally as good filters if not better for much less.Thanks again for a great video.

@@carlovanrijk4039 Hi Carlo Ryco are a decent quality oil filter and a very popular aftermarket filter in Australia.They used to be made here in Australia but are now made in China.I would say that they would be equivalent to a mid level Fram.I have used them for years and have done the job just fine. That oil is very good at its job. It is cleaning up the internal engine parts removing byproducts of ice engines. Soot is contained in the filter. Filter did its job very well. I use this oil in my gt with 183k on the clock. Its still quiet and doesnt burn any oil. This is what good oil and a good filter is suppose to do. Excellent video! Thanks!

I will take my Wix or Purolator over k&n. For some reason many people think k&n is a superior brand. I would rate them as average.

I couldnt help but notice most of the soot collected in the V of the pleats the fram ultra syn. caught most of the soot throughout the media ! i would be more worried about the carbon deposits which is abrasive ! Great video as always ! Thanks whippy !

That filter did a great job filtering the carbon out. Carbon is also why oil gets dark. I have run E85 exclusive on my 2013 Focus, and the oil didn't even start to get dark until 5,000 miles. I did 7500 miles OCI's on it mostly due to time more than use.

YO, Whip !! Thanks for all your work to make this video -- it's a good'n !! One of the main features of a K&N oil filter is the NUT -- but NO NUT is here, and the filter was damaged at removal. 8 large holes in base plate = good. Silicone ADBV = good. Spiral-wound core with louvers = good. Retainer/BPV combo = good. Nitrile rubber gasket = good. Metal end caps = good. Despite all the "goods", I would not buy or use this oil filter, because: 1. Micron rating of "99% at particles greater than 30 Microns" is totally unacceptable for an oil filter in the "high-price" range. 2. Area of Filter Media is TOO SMALL -- should be at least 90 sq ins. Never saw so many chunks of soot in an oil filter before -- is that common with the Eco-Boost motors ??

Not all K&Ns tiers filters have or have had the dome end nut. Topic Select K&N is one such example. Also, the nut has been shown in the be a point of rust, weakening and sometimes leaks. Also minor dents on removal not uncommon ime and zero effect on function in use. Media area correlates with filter size. Topic is a relatively small filter but is spec size. Plenty of media area with this one.

Good review. Not a bad filter imho. Decent amount of threads on the base plate. Decent filter media. Looks ok to me. Although I still prefer the FRAM ULTRA GUARD. Decent filter either way 👍

Topic is a Champ Labs made K&N. This one uses a metal centertube, not ecore. So,different than the Super Tech MP series. Anti-drain back valve wouldn't be loose in use because if you note, the outlet flange is wide. Adbv groove will fit tightly. It does look well made, but K&N tend to be very pricey. Personally, don't like to call the bypass valve on the flat spring a "combo valve". That term generally refers to a nitrile adbv and bypass in one. I don't like those. But, I know what you meant. The UOA looks good, TBN indicates a lot of add pack life left in that oil. fyi, Blackstone has said in the past, when it comes to insolubles, they don't see any significant differences between oil filters used. I don't know the efficiency of the K&N, but I like how it's made. Thanks for vid.

@@WhipCityWrencher Sorry Whip I missed the efficiency level in the vid. What you posted is pretty standard for many Champ Labs made filter. Iirc, Super Tech filters have same efficiency. And, it is still better than many of the OEM oil filters. Many really like and prefer OEM filters. 🤷Also see lots of comments about can denting from removal, I don't find it unusual or excessive. No effect in use. My.02

Really shouldn't need anything to install a filter, 2/3-3/4 turn after gasket contact. Some minor denting not uncommon on removal. Possible user may have overtightened a bit, but I don't find can denting here serious or unusual.
