Id bet that the Original form of Karate, used to have similar low kick attack methods. One might look for them in White Crane Kung Fu... which I believe was the art that Karate was based off of. That said... many arts were turned into a sport, and degraded from their original combat methods. While sport can be Fun... its Important to preserve the real Combat methods, for real self defense abilities. Bring back the Ancient Combat technology, and restore it in schools, before it is completely Lost. Also note... that the Shoes are not the reason why this kick is so effective. In fact, to be able to do Toe Kicks with good power... you still have to Condition them Well. This is done by kicking wall mounted Sandbags, with your bare toes. Eventually, you may start to Tap your toes on solid surfaces. Walking on the top of your Toes, like a Ballerina, is also a good foot strengthening exercise. Toe Kicking a heavy bag, is also good for developing Penetration Strength... for kicking stronger areas, like the abdomen. Toe Kicks can be used to attack many different spots. I once Toe Kicked a Kyokushin Karate instructors lead leg, on his Inner thigh muscle. He was unable to move for a few seconds, after that kick landed... as it caused a strong numbing or cramping effect. I then just stepped in with a series of rapid strikes, and he wasnt able to defend them. Another target I like to Toe Kick, is the Hip Bone, and the Center of the Legs, where they connect at the Hip. Kicking the Hip bone is good for stopping forwards progression, and can be painful too. Kicking the Inner part of the legs, can also be painful, and could cause mobility issues. Toe Kicking the abdomen, can be quite powerful.. and can penetrate deeply... with a very long range distance (more distance, than a front kick.. and deeper penetration too). A Toe Stabbing kick to the Throat, could be extremely devastating. Another Low kick that is extremely Effective in Combat... is the "Oblique Kick". A heel + instep kick to the Kneecap, or just above it.. or just below it.. or to the Shin. This kick can be very Damaging, even at low levels of impact Power. Its also often called the "No Shadow Kick", because its so low, and so fast... that it appears to be almost Invisible, to the opponents eyes. Its thrown in a very Non-Telegraphic way... and often from a very close range, which makes it even harder to read, and to see it coming.
