You are absolutely correct about rhythm and musicality of lyrics being more important to Soyeon than grammar is. It's really the "secret sauce" in her songs that makes them catchy in a way that transcends language barriers. English words are included because they can be understood by the most listeners around the world. Non-fluent English speakers can get a feel for the songs message and they aren't "hung up" on proper English grammar. Most likely they don't even notice it. On a global scale, the trade off between fluent English speakers being annoyed by the grammar is much less than the benefit of casual English speakers being able to get the idea of the song. There is a huge "net positive" to her "cringe" lyrics that guarantees that she will never value proper English grammar over musicality, flow, and worldwide understanding. Frankly, it's arrogant of fluent English speakers to expect otherwise.

And to those who says that Soyeon's english is "horrible" can't quite understand that rhythm and musicality is what she aims for more than grammer. Like she mentioned in the beginning saying "got" instead of "god" to make it sound more clear musically should be more than enough facts that she KNOWS what she's doing and what's right for what she wants in her music. Soyeon KNOWS english, doesn't mean she has to use it grammatically correct to make music. Their english is definitely better than american mumble rappers that's for sure, but is that even a comparison? Definitely not.

@@aPAULogies8o8 it's insane that people be surprised or find it weird. This type of thing isn't even a new thing in music but they act like it's a weird thing lmao. But since this is about kpop, bet people who were being salty were just hate the group. I'm not just calling them haters without reasons (bcs critiques are always good) but because they be talking about things they have 0 knowledge about. And when someone tell them about it, they just refuse to accept that as new knowledge lmao. It's just too obvious. It's kpop anyway. Lots of immature kids.

In Sofa show, Minnie said Soyeon recommend her practise vocal by themselve more than study with vocal coach. Soyeon said if we did like that our vocal will be the same style, not special. And Minnie said het found it correct with her voice.

She sang Thai not Vietnamese. 'H̄nụ̀ng s̄xng s̄ām' is the normal count sound. But she can say 'Nụng s̄xng sạ̀m' that Thai use for count when we make the singnal to start to do somthing or competition. She may forgot this. But the Korean fit for the song better than Thai, I think,

@@komerican-og In Thai, the word “Nueng” when spoken in a low tone means “one”, but if spoken in a high tone, the meaning changes to “steam”.

Thanks for clearing up what she meant by “twisted”. Tha one had me puzzled. As for “greasy,” I thought that maybe what she meant was something like what Americans would mean by saying “slick” as in smooth but a little more disreputable. From your explanation, that seems like it might be a reasonable translation in this case.

Slick is very close with negative connotation. Original meaning would be queasy or noxious. Closest I can get to is 'too much'? Some words are just too difficult to translate.

I really agree about your observation on Soyeon’s priorities. You can even see it here in the beginning when she made the specific decision to use a pronunciation of “got” for musicality even though she knew it was “god” and was able to say it that way

Maybe they should have had that as trainees but at that time I think if I remember correctly pylon encouraged them not to go to the vocal coach til they got a new one cuz the one they had at time was kinda making them all sound the same and making them lose their unique tones so they got vocal coaches later Miyeon did a lot of her training in YG before lion to cube and was the last to join cube and joined the team the latest and soonest to their debut time so I think her vocal training was probably better 🤷‍♀😅
