When it comes to 1st gen groups back then you couldn't that easily buy kpop albums and merch as an international fan. If you lived somewhere in Asia or in the US then you coule have been lucky to find it somewhere but the rest of the world no way... 2nd gen...mostly the same,but people got better internet and different websites to order stuff online. It was only 3rd gen when kpop was that known around the world that you could go into a random store and find a kpop album on the shelf. Also...in my country you can find only BTS and BP lmao and I don't care about them BP debuted in 2016 so you saying you were able to buy albums overseas means nothing because I was talking literally about the 90s and 00s

compared to the earlier generations, i'm not really impressed with the more recent ones. most of these album sales are bloated because companies have been releasing multiple versions of the same album, some even exceeding more than 10. imagine this. during the 1st/2nd gen era, in most cases, there's just 1 version of the album. so, 1 person = 1 copy sold. fast forward to the 3rd/4th gen where there are multiple versions, then 1 person = multiple sales. if there are 10 versions, then that's 10 copies sold from only 1 person. i haven't even factored the globalization of kpop. that alone makes the accomplishment of both s.e.s and snsd even more impressive. and don't get me started with the 1m copies sold by the pearl sisters in 1968. the feat is fucking amazing!

@@Imsanabae ofc I know Sakura and Chaewon brought a lot of attention but it’s still a great achievement. Not every group with idols re debuting find success (Le Sserafim and IVE being the exception). IOI and WannaOne former members redebutting in other groups for example didn’t have much impact at all. So to say the group is successful only because of the two would be idiotic. They are successful cause of their great concept and music as well as Chae and Kura.
