Little cliff notes: - The singers in rank 49-42 are all Non-vocalist singers, their rank is pretty much interchangeable and it really doesn't matter as their technique in general is just too inconsistent and support quality is shallower than a kiddie pool. - The point above also applies to singers in ranks 41-31, theyre in weak tier and all interchangeable. - In general the rankings and given tiers all really do NOT matter. The most important part about these videos is the analysis and a real discussion on the technique of these singers. Some of you look too much into rankings that you're willing to forgive very clear issues and technicalities for the sake of trying to keep up with a ranking or underestimate so many of these perfectly capable IDOL SINGERS because of their ranking. And these rankings are literally made by kpop fans, in theory you can literally make your own ranking system, its just THAT unimportant. Personal cliff notes: - I agree Ningning's performances haven't been the strongest as we'd assume but I don't think it's enough to question her consistency just yet. Personally I don't hear anything much different because in her B4~C#5 range. Her support quality has always just been "passable" and its literally just that, soft, heady and light in coordination. It's just that it's more apparent now because they don't have a loud backtrack/prerecorded track drowning out her voice in recent live performances. Her performances in general sound literally exactly the same as before (Ningning in Jimmy Kimmel live & both days of the LA showcases are all light and soft in approach just like in radio interviews, encores, etc.) so I really don't notice the "stark" difference that makes her ranking "questionable" as some of you guys are mentioning. If she truly shows something different, whether we did end up overestimating her or she actually presents something stronger in the upcoming comeback, I'll stand by this. #NingningforPresident - I'm open to the idea of Giselle having the slight edge over Karina cuz I do agree she has some clean, strong notes even up to Bb4, but I think we need to give more time for Giselle to actually start singing some more challenging lines live to make something like that set in stone. In general, we're a bit too hasty with ranking and analyzing singers and it's causing some huge confusion and misinformation to spread. One of the established rules of KVA (the system all of us are kinda using rn) was to not analyze newly debuted idols and atleast wait a few YEARS (not months y'all, years😭😭) to properly get enough content to analyze. My suggestion really is to remove like half of these girlies of the ranking and focus on the singers with enough content and/or WAIT a bit longer before we start putting ppl in rankings.

I would disagree with placing Giselle over Karina for now. In spite of her messiness, Karina still has a more developed chest engagement which is enough to put her above around this level. I think there are better instances but they’re singing side by side here which gives a clearer view kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6eveKyGaa94jsk when both of them are phrasing those G#4’s, it takes less effort/is quite easier for Karina to produce it with more fullness and a chestier coordination, while Giselle still sounds thinner around here. Karina’s problem is a bit like Jessica… well not really… it’s a bit less isolated I suppose where her issue is the quality of support between her lighter sound and the bolder one, but she retains it well enough in the bolder approach (it’s usually the ambitious runs for her level she tries to apply that makes it sound more all over the place) at least better than what Giselle can manage for now, Karina has better attempts on B4’s as well which doesn’t seem to be entirely flukes so far, by extension the placement on her C5/C#5 are not bad as well.

it’s alright, they’re right next to each other and in the same tier so essentially there’s not much of a gap between them at all. also, just so you know, i was waiting for you ahah love how you will always come up with something i haven’t noticed, but this time around i’ll stand by saying giselle has shown way cleaner approach and karina Bs, well, i would say they’re ‘flukes’ or at least not much of a quirk tbh, because i’m not hearing near as good quality and consistency on her Bb4 ~ B4 range relatively to how she does bellow it. in her case that chestiness is overrated personally lol it’s not like she manages a clear belting, it’s all nasal and verge stuck in some instances so how loud she is projecting or how much chest presence there is in her mix should not be praised for now imo ^^

She used to support G#3/A3-C5/C#5 with strong support and coordination and (pushed) resonance with nice chest (TA) engagement/coordination even though she had her nasal moments as well. Now, she’s too light with no recent moments of resonance with slightly weaker support (though not weak or shallow, just not as strong as it used to be anymore) on G#3/A3-B4/C5 with even inconsistencies on B4/C5 and glaring nasality/nose projection.

With NN her problem is not range, she’s still G3-C5/C#5 with some head voice. The reason she’s stuck in A-AA bc her entire range lacks development and stronger support. You can compare her lower range and mid range to Solji. Even on simple notes like C4, NN sounds significantly less full and strong and her lows are way less projected and full. Her issues are even more apparent in belting. Kei, Seunghee, Minseo, etc. have stronger coordination. NN is pretty close to Jess/Seohyun. Jessica is near the bottom of A-AA yet has roughly G3/G#3-C5 because of similar lack of stronger development and coordination.

I find it extremely upsetting that SME is barely giving us any vocal content. It's so sad, the aespa girls are such a vocally strong group and they could showcase that so much more, but for some reason SM doesn't really give them any chance to show that outside of their releases. I really think they are kind of "wasting" their talent here. They could put out so much content. I don't necessarily need them to sing live on music shows like all the time (would be nice if they did it from time to time though), but it would be super cool, if the members could release covers here on youtube (individually/duets). Or simply vocal performance videos for their bsides. All we get these days are just short clips that the girls share on Bubble and if we are extremely lucky, we get to hear them a little bit on radio shows. But I really wanna hear more from the girls and I feel like the girls would also be happy to showcase their vocals more. I'm constantly thinking about how the girls mention their go to karaoke songs in interviews, but the fact that the probability as of now that we will actually hear them sing those songs is so low, makes me super sad and upset😭 I don't want to come across as "needy" or anything, but I'm really desperately waiting for them to give us more exposure to their beautiful voices. Her highnotes sounded easy and low that fooled myself that I can hit it lol, while winter makes highnotes sound too high and hard(no shade) Her light approach reminds me of ari so much. Both can effortlessly belt highnotes with minimal strain

We always discuss abt aespa's vocal abilities objectively. But lemme open up my opinions on their tone. Ningning; buttery, bright and sugary Winter: metallic, icy and bright Karina: heavy but warm and fudgy Giselle: sweet and clear as a crystal.

I was curious on how Karina does during live performances, I am under the impression that she sings like an average vocalist in studio (she still can have issues with pushing) but can get shallow in her midrange sometimes during informal & casual settings like fancalls or bubble, does she still keep this shallowness during Coachella, LA Showcase, Jimmy Kimmel, & GMA? I think I remember reading a comment of yours saying that she was messy during her run in Life’s Too Short in live performances & that it screamed shallow but I think it makes sense because she just throws the notes around during live riffs/runs but I think that’s just her lacking proper control over herself during more complex runs for someone at her level, not necessarily to do with her being incapable of fully supporting those notes (up until B4) if it wasn’t apart of a run/riff, please correct me as I’m not an expert and this is based off what I’ve read in the comments here and on your community posts, thank you for your time to whoever reads this!

To resonate you have to have open, rounded vowels as well (which most AA lack). Even P vocalists don’t resonate every in song and some don’t resonate at all like Wendy. Resonance is much rarer than originally thought. Lily hasn’t resonated. NN hasn’t either.
