Thank you so much for the subtitles. I don't think I've ever been this intrigued by a musician before, let alone someone I got to know thanks to Eurovision. Jere is right -- Käärijä is a phenomenon. You could look at them as two sides of the same coin, and these two sides are both equally magnetic and attractive. Käärijä is amazing, but what completes it is Jere himself as an individual with his down-to-earth personality, his emotional intelligence, his self-awareness, his introspection, the kind of healthy mindset where you know your shortcomings which you accept and try to make them better. I found myself surprised at how much I can relate to him in some ways. I wish him all the best in the future, because no doubt he's got immense pressure from this sudden fame. I think most people would cave under the weight, but it's comforting to know that Jere is surrounded by people who really support him. He's got the making of a great guy who people can look up to, and he can use his platform to do great things if he so chooses (whether as Käärijä through his music, or just simply as Jere). Honestly, it sounds cliché to say this, but we need more great people like him. He's won my respect and appreciation, for, perhaps, years to come. If I had to choose a favourite part from this interview, I'd say it was the part about the time-travelling. It's such a simple, yet multi-layered question that, if taken seriously, can show one's true colours. I loved Jere's answer to this question.
@Sinivalkoseepra-yz1ke Жыл бұрын
Such a good analysis. I agree with all of it. And I was also impressed with his answer to the time travelling question. I have now watched this three times, and after every time I feel so... I'm not quite sure what's the right word. Impressed? Having great amount of respect towards him. And inspired to grow as a person myself.
@mikanchan322 Жыл бұрын
I feel exactly the same way but you've expressed it better than I can. I liked him before, but this interview really showcases his..wisdom? Intelligence, yes, but also this sense of having experienced a lot in life and having learned a lot about himself and the way life works. He really seems to understand who he is. I love how he openly speaks about being sensitive and experiencing emotion intensely and the way he has learned to regulate that. Like you, I could really relate to some of the things he mentions. The time-travelling question really only required a light-hearted answer, but his answer again showed his thoughtful and empathic nature. I have a new, deep respect for him.

I think what united millions who don’t share a language is that literally all of Europe except one country had to learn english. Like yes I can speak and write it and all that but it’s not my language, it’s not how I think, how I feel, it’s not my mother tongue. And I believe thats why people love to hear artists singing in their native language, it feels real, it feels right, and in interviews in the native language I see the person for who they really are although I don’t understand a single word but I don’t necessarily need to because if I listen and watch carefully I hear and see their emotions and emotions are a universal language 💚

Jere it's a model to follow: his courage to talk about his mental health, his down to earth answers, and even if I don't know a word of his mother language, he put the nail about how corporal expression (his voice and hand gesture in this part of the interview *chefkiss*) and be true to yourself it's a universal language that conected all people around the world to Käärijä, to him (Jere) in this thoughtfully interview, and his work. From Chile 🇨🇱, I send all my love to Jere & Finland.

An intelligent guy much more mature than his age, with a capacity for introspection and analysis of the outside world. If he can carve out his moments of solitude in private, and if he has genuinely friendly people around him who give him good advice, people who are not parasites, this artist will go a long way in whatever field he wants to pursue, not necessarily music. In English he does not yet express himself at a high level, but STILL manages to be very communicative and witty. In his native language, on the other hand, he communicates a very deep and damn interesting view of the world and of himself very well. Unexpectedly, I like the thinker Jere even more than the Käärijä-character, which I already like very much.
@KaleunMaender77 Жыл бұрын
I don't think he necessarily needs to learn English; I just think Google Translate does a good enough job that it has a "conversation" feature 😅 but to be able to speak in deep concepts and self-analysis to such an unbearably deep and comprehensive degree is something that a lot more people are capable of than we think, but simultaneously, whether truthfully or ostensibly, a lot of others don't seem to appreciate so much. I think people need to self-assess from time to time, but preferably not to the degree that that self-assessment would lead to self-flagellation. People need to be aware of themselves. People need to be introspective, and be able to recognise the good and bad within themselves. People need to acknowledge what they know is good and strengthen the good points, and they need to notice what they know to be bad and work out how best to resolve those bad points in a way that will minimise harm to themselves and to others around them. By about 30, one should be able to live with oneself, to live in one's own skin, to be aware of the consequences of actions and behaviour, and to accept the prices to pay for those consequences. It's very difficult to express in a manner that doesn't sound like asking for self-flagellation and beating oneself up, but people need to be more aware of themselves, and the people around them, and the ways the two parties interact with one another.

Käärijä is insanely charismatic and endearing, and I'm happy I got to know him, but damn, I wish I knew Jere from Vantaa. He seems to be a good apple. Thoughtful, perhaps even introverted, and someone that craves meaningful connections, the same way me and mine do. For a minute I couldn't understand why is he not reveling in all this success, and then I realized how extremely tired I get when I have surface-level social obligations for a single day, and he had to do it for months. I hope he can recharge and keep the Käärijä thing going, because he sparks joy and I'd love to see more of him, but even more so I hope he can recharge and keep Jere going with joy, because he is even more of a treasure. Great interview and I think Jere appreciated the connection you offered. Thanks for the translation!

@@samstarba4569 I mean, being introverted doesn't mean being non-social. Introverted through and through! The need for re-charging is a textbook example of an introvert, also the "masking" he does when putting on the Käärijä role. Introverts also often learn to be very good actors, because that's what they have to do all the time: pretend to be interested, pretend to smile, laugh, to be social. Introverts also usually have few good friends & love to hang out with their families, because they already know them & no need to mask or pretend.

THE SUBTITLES ARE HERE! AHOY! first, kudos to tommi for doing his research. it's not a "i'm doing this for more views" talk where both parties pretend to be interested in each other; no, they both seem to have just enough things in common to build an understanding. the communication major experience shows for sure. then there's jere, who i find very... fascinating seems to be a wrong word, but it is what it is. he's confident, but not arrogant. he's funny, but self-aware (extremely self-aware, even). he raps, but it's not a slur fest - of course, not every rapper is like that, but just enough of them are where you learn not to expect good things from a lyric translation. he knows about his shortcomings, and he is honest about it, and he works on it. he allows himself to feel things. to someone with 0,5 positive male influences in their life (me), jere's a unicorn. i'd say role model, but he didn't sign up for that. :'D i'm really looking forward to his future releases, as jere and as käärijä both. it's rare that i want to believe in an artist - there's been so many scandals with celebrities and youtubers i used to watch that it's hard not to be pessimistic. but man, jere is finland's best "cultural export" this year (if not decade). not to put him on a pedestal or anything, but it be like that. now i'm gonna go and rewatch the interview once more because it gave me a lot of food for thought on personal matters. a lot. kiitos!

You might have to prepare for him to get drunk and end up in a wrist fight after a sports game. 😅 That seems to be a common theme for many Finnish celebrities. But usually the celebrities in Finland are kinda down to earth. For example, when I was doing grocaries in a small, distant store, I ran into a celebrity who is both a former MP member and one of the most recognized musicians. He had biked there to pick up a package.

@@samstarba4569 i'll keep it in mind, but honestly, better that and/or gambling that shit like dating underage fans and threatening them if they speak out, for example. of course, death of the author exists as a concept, but i find it hard to separate actions and creations of modern artists, since their experiences and views still influence their work. it's such a bad feeling every time, ughh. like a personal betrayal of some sort. but i kinda wanna give jere a benefit of the doubt. i hope he has more opportunities for sophisticated interviews, if he wants to. :D his words about the confidence to, well, be yourself (even if that self struggles with english) hit me hard, bc im definitely that person that can't pull off an outfit even if it's tailor-made. in general, i think i'd like to be more like him when i'm in my thirties. finland is cool. i want to move there someday - i like the culture, and the cold, and, admittedly, a better judicial system that doesn't jail you based on a made-up case when you disagree with it. there are other reasons, like the language (it's awesome, even if the literary/colloquial difference spooks me a little), a good education system etc. has its downsides too, ofc, but the snow is whiter on the other side xd

@@gler3179 I really hope that he won't get caught for doing smth utterly disgusting!

With the return of the jury, Eurovision has turned into a fair where Swedish composers make a fortune by stamping songs left and right. But luckily for the Swedish music industry, national delegations don't have the backbone to riot and change the rules.

Great, sincere interview. I appreciate the subtitles too. To be able to understand this authentic exchange that focuses on the artist as a person. I was happy to discover Kaarija /Jere through ESC, but when I saw how big he was becoming so fast, I did wonder how he was feeling about it. I love creating music, but I am a very private person also. It is so good he has such support around him and the wisdom to view what is happening from such a balanced, healthy place, and to give himself the break he needs to continue. I don’t know that I would ever experience something, so large and rapid but if I did, I would hope to have such support around me also. I wish him well. What a fun, engaging, energizing, and intelligent artist.

Olipa hieno ja rauhallinen haastattelu, jossa oikeesti otettiin aikaan kysymyksille ja vastauksille, eikä vaan kiireellä siirrytty seuraavaan. Hyvää työtä Tommi 🫱🏼🫲🏽 Jere vaikuttaa edelleen, tän ihan järkyttävän ison suosion jälkeen, todella symppikseltä ja nöyrältä tyypiltä ja ennen kaikkea aidolta! Näyttää mahtavaa esimerkkiä nuorille niin monella eri osa-alueella 💚 Parhaan biisin lisäksi oon onnellinen, että just tollainen persoona on tän kaiken hypen kohteena! Erinomainen tyyppi luomaan mielikuvaa Suomesta ja suomalaisista maailmalla 🥰

Jere on kyllä ihan uskomattoman fiksu ja tunnetaitoinen. Ihana haastattelu! ❤ Edit.

Kiitos molemmille! ❤

Sydämellinen, iso KIITOS syväluotaavasta & lämminhenkisestä keskustelusta niin Jerelle kuin Tommillekin ❤️ Oli ilo katsoa, kuinka vähäeleinen, rauhallinen haastatteluympäristö sekä hienosti taustatyönsä tehneen Tommin lempeä olemus sai vantaalaisen Jeren rentoutumaan hyvällä fiiliksellä ihan omana itsenään. 🙏 😘

This is hands down the best interview with a musician I’ve seen. Informative, sure, but so much more! The questions and the answers - everything was so thoughtful and earnest. You don’t usually come away from interviews with new insights on life, but this one - absolutely. The interview was so smooth and comfortable that I assumed they had grown up together, right up until the end. Fantastic job, both of you. 🌻

Thank you for the English subtitles ❤️ We have to remember that the rules of every competition are relative and are embedded within the nature of reality, of which we are largely unaware. We are simply playing and cannot truly take this seriously. The results are merely a reflection of the rules of common perception, and in that regard, I am certain that Käärijä is the true winner for many individuals.
