K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth | Turn 1 Doomsday - The Brewery [S01E04]

Greetings, everyone! Welcome to The Commander Tavern! I am Demented Kirby and this is the 4th episode of one of the series on this channel, The Brewery. This series is all about brewing and deck techs - hopefully showcasing the spiciest of brews!
In this is episode of The Brewery I present my take on a cEDH build for the recently spoiled K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth. This video explains in great detail how to win on turn 1 with Doomsday. It also explains other ways to win with Doomsday and the infinite combos I'd use with it. A very brief explanation is given on how to pilot the deck should finding Doomsday become a bit troublesome.

I'm still working on the deck and seeing how I can maximize the amount of Doomsday piles while also increasing the the odds of a Turn 1 win. I'm also seeing how many viable slots would be left after that in order to make the deck still function beyond Turn 1 in case the Doomsday combo occurs after Turn 1. K'rrik is by far my favorite of all the legendary creatures developed for Commander 2019.

P.S.:
There's a blooper @3:08. It says that you should remove three counters to ping opponents. Actually, you use ONE counter to ping opponents and then the remaining counters to ping Triskelion. Sorry for any confusion for that!

CLARIFICATION: There's a mistake @ 3:08 in the video. You don't remove ALL counters from Triskelion to ping opponents; you remove one for opponents and then the last two are used to ping itself. This is because Mikaeus gives it a static +1/+1 pump. Sorry for the confusion!

But in Combination with Mikaeus the Triskelion is a 2/2 without Counters. So it hast to ping itsself two times to die

Another Doomsday pile for Turn 1 is Cruel Bargain (or Infernal Contract), Sacrifice, Mikaeus the Unhallowed, Carrion Feeder (or Viscera Seer), and Walking Ballista. Step 1: Pay 2 life to cast Sacrifice, sacrificing K'rrik to add BBBBBBB to your mana pool. Step 2: Use all that mana to cast Carrion Feeder (or Viscera Seer) and Mikaeus the Unhallowed. Step 3: Cast Walking Ballista for 0, which doesn't die due to Mikaeus's static buff. Step 4: Sacrifice Walking Ballista to Carrion Feeder (or Viscera Seer). Step 5: Walking Ballista returns with a +1/+1 counter on it thanks to the undying from Mikaeus. Step 6: Remove the counter, pinging an opponent. Step 7: Repeat this process from Step 4. This leaves you with a life total of 2 after assembling the game winning Turn 1 combo: Casting K'rrik: from 40 to 34. Casting Doomsday: from 34 to 14. Casting Aphotic Wisps: from 14 to 12. Casting Cruel Bargain (or Infernal Contract): from 12 to 3 Casting Sacrifice: from 3 to 1.

That's actually a better combo since you wouldn't need to have an extra mana source in hand like Lotus Petal, Dark Ritual, or Mana Vault in order to pull it off. Thanks for contributing!

Realistically this combo will almost never, ever go off. A sensible group that sees K'rrik as the commander turns the game into Archenemy. K'rrik can win a game through more conventional means without the use of such a volatile glass cannon which requires too many moving parts in a game where the K'rrik player is generally agreed to be the threat right from the start.

That's why I went through all the trouble of calculating just how unlikely it is to pull off by showing that it's likelihood of happening is 0.0000015% (@4:46). So the deck isn't built around that godhand combo; I just wanted to show that it is possible to get a Turn 1 win with K'rrik and how to go about it. Building a deck solely for a 0.0000015% of victory is ludicrous. That much should've been painfully obvious. Also, K'rrik isn't the only cEDH deck that wants to win off of Doomsday. The purpose of the video was to show people all the ways you could win with Doomsday in a monoblack deck piloted by K'rrik. Naturally, Doomsday decks have their weaknesses, but K'rrik is potentially the best monoblack commander for the Doomsday archetype in cEDH.

Stage of combo (life total after card resolves) Play swamp (40) Tap swamp for sol ring (40) Play mana crypt (40) Play lotus petal (40) Tap crypt and sol, pay 6 life for k'rrik (34) Pay 6 for doomsday which halves your life upon resolution (34-6=28. 28/2=14) Pay 2 for aphotic wisps (12) Pay 6 for infernal contract which halves your life on resolution (12-6=6. 6/2=3) Pay 2 life for and sacrifice lotus petal for zombie infestation (1) Cannot pay for dark ritual You completely forgot to half your life for the doomsday when you were running through the combo. You can still do the combo and end at 1 life if instead of sol ring you use mana vault.

Yes, thanks for clearing that up. Thankfully the solution is simple and the process can still be achieved by simply swapping out Sol Ring with Mana Vault as you pointed out.

A smart opponent never lets doomsday/enter the infinite effects to resolve.

Very true - as well they should. However, if you're able to cast Doomsday before an opponent has even had a chance to drop their first land yet, they'll only be able to stop you if they have a Force of Will or Force of Negation in they're opening hand. The same thing happens with Turn 0 Flash Hulk.
