Ha I've been racing for over forty years and I/we always send the Manifolds out if they are all shiny and smooth to be Sand / Bead blasted with the coarsest Sand to improve the mixture quality. Proven on the dyno a lot of times. Even Maniflods with varying roughness will be sent out to even out the 'pattern'. That is a part of why the hp figures were down on the Skunk. Another reason the difference in Air Speed between a Side Entry vs Centre Entry. Side Entry will usually be higher regardless of Volume. Then there is the Reversion Factor. ....... It just keeps going on and on...... Even before I saw your results I had money on the Ktune. Next time may I suggest you make the Manifolds the same design. But it was interesting to read up the difference you found between the two designs in a NA application. The DC5 I race has TB's with a Toda Side Mount Plenum.
@ksisjdm4 жыл бұрын
Well in all your forty years you didn't realize the skunk2 manifold is actually cnc ported and has a textured finish that simply appears smooth and there's been dyno proven results via 4piston documenting the improvement over stock. Another thing, the test consisted of BOTH SIDE FEED VERSIONS OF THE MANIFOLD. So the smart remark suggesting the manifolds be the same wasn't warranted. The skunk2 centerfeed didn't even exist yet when the testing was completed. Another thing, if you look at the graphs posted from each engine with their respective back to back results, you can the see the skunk2 manifold start to gain ground and hold power at very high rpm just like its item description for usage for NA engines. The average user of this manifold doesn't build such a high rpm screamer, but some of the dedicated drag NA cars do. I even referenced that items used in the video because I know how people look at the video image and don't listen to what's said. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Love it! Even after all these years, I still come back to watch this clip! Lol Just a thought that I’ve always wonder,; with the power that you’re making with the manifold, was it just a bolt-on KTuned Side Feed? No porting or so ever? Reason I asked is because everyone seems to be running either ITB or a 4Piston SK2 Ultra Race 5.5L/90mm. If the KTuned Side Feed doesn’t need porting and just a direct bolt-on, in my opinion I think the KTuned would be a bettter price considering it comes with the rail, no porting, and the *bling *bling making big power .. lol Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
@ksisjdm3 жыл бұрын
Yes the ktuned manifold is directly installed with no porting at all. And yes you make sense with your assumption. Down side is its currently harder to get ahold of the ktuned manifold versus the others. The skunk2 manifold with the real and larger spacer is much more expensive but it also still has room to be ported even bigger for true huge power cars that need that. The vast majority of builds don't need such a massive manifold but people just copy what they see rather than use what would suit them best.
@larryher13 жыл бұрын
@@ksisjdm Thanks for responding back Kerry, I appreciate it! Everything is knowledge as you watch, learn and test. But on your last statement in regards to the SK2 Ultra Race, I totally agree with you, it definitely leaves more room for more power with the 2L spacer and port, thus why SK2 purposely made it that way (room for improvements) if needed. As for the KTuned, it’s a direct bolt on that makes good power exactly the way it is with a setup like yours 24/20. Thanks again Kerry, wish you all the best on your build! Much Love 💯
@ksisjdm3 жыл бұрын
The part of leaving more room for improvement is VERY DECEIVING though. People need to understand when and where that manifold makes power and performs its best and the honest answer is, it's in an area where the vast majority of people won't ever use or build their engines to. They speak of this in a very subtle way in their disclaimer for use. Most people aren't building engines that see the bulk of their power above 9000 rpm and closer to the 10,000 rpm range. Everyone is lead to believe bigger is better but that's not the case. Especially with Naturally aspirated setups. Balance and harmony is beyond important. That's why I spoke of the two engines types we used and the rpm range and you can see closely in the graphs the skunk2 is just beginning to shine extremely high up. There aren't a ton of 10k rpm street cars running around. The skunk2 ultra side feed that was used was already cnc ported and even used with a head perfectly cnc ported to match it. Increasing the plenum volume will have hardly any effect with all motor because the engine isn't flowing air more quickly than the plenum can hold. It would take an extremely large about of forced induction to max out that plenum volume. So considering the plenum spacers as some benefit is a mute point. The runners being ported does make a good difference, but the larger the runner volume, the lower the air velocity unless several other things are done to compensate for the slower air entry speed.

Center feeds only good because it gives equal air to each cylinder
@ksisjdm7 жыл бұрын

I would argue that a manifold that is too big for your engine makes the engine run even worse than with a manifold that is just right. Thats because the air velocity will be lower with bigger diameters. Please correct me if Im wrong!

if the intake manifold runners on the skunk2 are bigger (at the flange exit) then that of the cylinder heads intake ports entrance. this create intake air reversion and you will actually make less power then a stock port intake manifold, the transition of air has to be smooth if the air hits a step it messes up the flow pattern into the cylinder head. in your video it looks like your cnc s2 intake had bigger ports then your hand ported cylinder head thats why i am commenting.
@ksisjdm6 жыл бұрын
I'm well aware of how the air flow works. The CNC skunk2 intake manifold is perfectly matched for the CNC 4piston pro 156 head it was ported for. The matching head with that manifold was directly back to back tested against the unmatched ktuned manifold and still the skunk2 manifold was outperformed until reaching 10,000 rpm where the skunk2 finally had a small edge. This video was just to give people some generic info and a visual of the two company designs that are readily available. All the testing that was done was legitimate and in fact favored the skunk2 but the results spoke for themselves.

I have a question since he have similar set ups to your first one stock 06 k24a2 which I have in my rsx with a 50vtc do you think its worth porting out rbc manifold on a stock 06 k24a2 head since I hear it doesn't have good air flow it ain't worth doing cause I'm debating on going ktuned 72mm tb soon or 80mm ktuned tb
@ksisjdm7 жыл бұрын
+Henry Parada if you've seen my results with a 80mm on a stock internal tsx you'd see how well it does all flow. The tsx head can flow plenty air as well. Just because it's not "as" efficient far above 8k rpm, doesn't mean it doesn't flow well. There's more to performance than the peak hp number. To your main question, I do not think the rbc needs to be ported to perform well with your setup. A stock port rbc manifold can support a lot of horsepower as is. Porting it with a stock internsl bolt on engine, typically only gives any noticeable gain at a high rpm. That's a costly service for minimal gains. Port matching the TB, yes, but porting the manifold itself, not so much IMO. The way the manifold is ported makes a huge difference as well. If it's ported too big, it has the drawback of slowing air velocity and sacrificing midrange in favor of high end hp. A very good port job could potentially make gains throughout. But without a cnc port, consistency on porting is a shot in the dark.

I have a K-tuned intake manifold and the other is a ported Skunk2 ultra race intake manifold.
@realtruth972 жыл бұрын
So... Witch one generates more power? Also? What size throttle body do they both require? What size holes too?
@ksisjdm Жыл бұрын
I showed two sets of dyno sheets, the ktuned manifold made more power overall and more power on average. The skunk2 ultra race manifold started to pick up on power and close the gap in power around the 9000 rpm point. If you have a setup revving higher than 9k, the skunk2 ultra may make more peak power while sacrificing midrange and low end power. They both use a mustang not pattern for throttle bodies and the manifold entry size is equal to 90mm.

Dude, just get some piping in the size you want. There's so many variables to different chassis and the use of the car. An intake that "WORKS" is simply any properly sized piping. Even too large or too small of piping "works". There's no off the shelf intake created for big manifolds. Use whatever you see fit.

The center feed is still climbing at red line vs the other one that is falling off and 10hp is nothing the center feed is better in my opinion from what I see ever on the second motor you test you can see how much further it carries the power vs falling off and again 6hp difference is nothing the center feed shows the best power band 👍🏾
@ksisjdmАй бұрын
Both manifold tested were side feed manifolds. It's true the skunk2 ultra race carries power further, but 9 out of 10 people aren't building cars that are revving above 9500 - 11000rpm. Your average user would have a blown engine trying to rev to there in an attempt to warrant using that skunk2 ultra manifold. So each manifold has a good place to be used, and the powerband needs to be taken into consideration.
@wd80056 жыл бұрын
Man did you test the Skunk2 Ultra Race Centerfeed Manifold? & is it ported to by 4piston? I never head that you mentioned it on the dyno back to back test that you made..
@ksisjdm6 жыл бұрын
I didn't test the centerfeed one because someone already did a back to back of the skunk2 ultra side feed versus the skunk2 ultra centerfeed and the centerfeed version did worse than thur side feed.
@wd80056 жыл бұрын
@@ksisjdm woah! all along i thought that the skunk2 ultra race centerfeed is better and can make more power because it has a larger plenum volume (5L Centerfeed vs 3.5L Sidefeed) than the sidefeed one..
@wd80056 жыл бұрын
@@ksisjdm it might be interesting to see a back to back test of K-Tuned Sidefeed & K-Tuned Centerfeed + a Skunk2 Ultra Race Side Feed ported by 4piston with A 2L Spacer to add more plenum volume.. i wonder which one can make more power out of the three that i mentioned..
@ksisjdm6 жыл бұрын
Just because its bigger doesnt make it better. The skunk2 ultra race already really needs an engine that operates best closer to 10,000 rpm. Increasing the plenum volume slows the air speed down quite a bit which isnt beneficial for all motor.
@ksisjdm6 жыл бұрын
The ktuned side feed already out did the skunk2 side feed that was ported by 4piston easily. The ktuned centerfeed is the same design as the ktuned side feed just slightly bigger plenum an center positioning, so the 2 ktuned manifolds perform similar to themselves. This is a no brainer comparison.
@rmarli172 жыл бұрын
So would you say it's better to run a ported rbc manifold or a skunk2 pro series with a supercharger over trying to run the k-tuned side feed with a supercharger? The engine i have is the k20z3.
@ksisjdm Жыл бұрын
If it's between a ported rbc and a skunk2 pro series...I'd go with the ported rbc. Now if both the rbc and pro series was ported, I'd recommend the skunk2 pro series. Being boosted, you can take advantage of the larger volume of intake air.

Where do you get, or find this k-tuned intake manifold, any for ep3 k20a. Would love one specially made to fit the ep3, as alot off aftermarket intake needs a bit off trimming for fitment... ??
@ksisjdm3 жыл бұрын
It's a ktuned intake manifold, I got it from ktuned. No there isn't one specifically made for an ep3, so you'll have to do like you mentioned and work with it to make it fit most likely.

@childstar Quick question bro, not much info from people that have actually had these manifolds. I want to run ac therefore i have the ep3 style pulley. I know i gotta modify the waterpump housing, thats no problem. Any of these centerfeeds can work with my setup?
@ksisjdm5 жыл бұрын
The mounting point for the ep3 pulley has to be cut off in order to run these manifolds. Ktuned has a post mount bracket with holes that allows the ep3 pulley to be further offset, but i do not believe AC can be fitted with it, but I know its possible to retain the ep3 pulley setup using that post mount bracket.

300 hp, if doable... I'm taking the old engine out, and getting body work done... a 08' tsx, with ECU, will run me $700..
@ksisjdm7 жыл бұрын
+Dolla Washa can't use the tsx ecu in your case. You need something like a prb ecu. And if you want 300, you need a complete build. Either built block and a built head, or a stock block with a really well built head, induction, and exhaust setup and good fuel to still reach 300 all motor. Might as well start with the cheapest block you can find and build it up for a reliable less stressed 300hp engine.

Hi K, hope youre good bro. Well, I ordered the K-tuned centre feed intake manifold a month or so back and have just been informed that they have discontinued it, 😟😞. A vendor from your side of the pond has asked me if I'm interested in any other manifold and has suggested a Gato centre feed. They look similar to the one I wanted but I know next to nothing about the company. Can I ask your opinion on Gato and if you know much about them and the manifold I've been offered for my k24a2? Respect bro
@ksisjdm5 жыл бұрын
GATO is a reputable company. Downside is their centerfeed manifold uses a very large runner which focuses more on high rpm power and mostly used for boosted applications. They are good manifolds though.
@kudzy115 жыл бұрын
@@ksisjdm nice one K, thank you for responding. I might have to pass on that then,wanted thinner longer runners ideally. There is currently no ETA for the revised K-tuned K20 version of which I'd have to use an adapter for K24. . Sigh In the meantime I'll be getting DC 004 Cams, after speaking to Jeremy it seems the 004.5 cams would lose me some mid range but give about 7bhp more. Could I continue with my build and run the 4's with the rbb manifold until I finally get the K-tuned or should I just wait do ya think?
@ksisjdm5 жыл бұрын
You could continue theres no rule making you stop. Just expect power to be restricted a lot by the intake manifold. I would at least use a RBC intake manifold in the meantime or something

Skunk2 manifold is better in the end cause you can open it up and polish it and add spacers you can't do that with k tuned. Also is you bangin bloods in the video. I knew childstar was a gangsta
@ksisjdm6 жыл бұрын
It's not really better per say, it depends on the application. Its not always better to open things up and make it huge internally. That effects the powerband greatly. So it depends solely on the overall setup

Can you run ac and ps with centerfeed intakes?
@ksisjdm3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the requirements and your approach to retaining AC and PS will vary based on the centerfeed manifold that is used. Plenum shapes and sizes vary and the angle they extend from the head. So you might have to do some custom work to keep them, but it's possible and it's been done before.

sbounty3 im planning to turbo a k20a3 with stock internals do you think it would last? i found one cheap in a scrap yard with less than 50k mileage. did you turbo yours aswell?

I didn't I was NA running Pauter Forged rods, Supertech 88mm 12.5:1 pistons, all ACL bearings, full Supertech Beehive valvetrain, IPS K2 cam's, head and IM ported by ASP Headers. I was making power up to 9k RPM's, but didn't realize the type a oil pump wasn't supplying enough oil to the cylinders at high RPM's. I think with the K20A3 if you use a type s oil pump and have it ported, or pick up a KMOD, ERL, etc... you should be ok. Also, make sure you invest in a better head gasket (cometic), ARP headstuds, and colder spark plugs and you should be ok running 7-9 lbs of boost for a while. The problem with that motor is the internals are pretty weak.
