@Vivek Lal, Most of the commercial aircrafts don't have GPS as it's not free for commercial aircrafts, ships or military vehicles. They use land based radar or aircraft to aircraft communications for navigation as they all fly beside land. Transatlantic and Trans Pacific flights would have GPS

Malaysian military (might not have a separate Air force wing) must have scrambled two aircrafts to visually identify the aircraft. They normally receive a flight plan data. This aircraft, definitely not in that plan. So if the Malaysian operation room did not get a call sign respose, they should have sent fighter flights to identify the same. It is a grave mistake of Malaysian military.
