Fantastic! A total blast from the past. I was a kid in the 70's and I LOVED the compilations. Made my allowance go much farther. I'd forgotten 90% of this, but I remember the SNL skit. Fun! Thanks for posting this.

The objective of the salesman is to sell something people don't need with money they don't have. If you actually need something and you have the money/credit, you'll go out and buy. You don't need to be coaxed into it. Actually, the first record I ever bought was a K-TEL LP, "Circuit-Breaker" circa 1979. The commercials were convincing!

Many of the products they produced were actually pretty useful, in my opinion. Not totally useless cheap gadgets.

Growing up in the 70's, I bought a lot of K-TEL's biggest hit albums...Disco Mania, Music Express, Block Busters, Mind Bender, Hit Machine, Disco Rocket, Let's Disco, Disco Dynamite, Disco Fire, Disco Nights, Hot Nights And City Lights...How do I remember them? I still have them!...Plus some Ronco albums, too!!!
@ChristopherSobieniak Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Ronco got on this too, got some of their LP's.

Too bad they ALL went under. K-tel, Ronco, Polytel, Ahed, Jukebox International, Polystar, Impact....Even Quality records stopped making compilations

The K-Tel CEO should have invested in those record companies in the Toronto Stock Exchange. [TSE]

From Canada with love. Their US office was in Minnetonka, MN, though I'm sure that's close to Winnipeg.

K-Tel exec. Bryan Turner will go on to sign NWA, Snoop Dogg, Jay Z, West Side Connection and more.. Ktel Bryan Turner left Ktel and created Priority Records. - NWA and Snoop are kind of from Winnipeg in this way. Ktel family is incredibly important to GFunk and Gangsta Rap.
