My boyfriend and I plan to get married and live in the US, but I'm not sure (given the current circumstances) it would be possible. My boyfriend works with his dad who is a self-employed. But on paper, he has never worked a day in his life! We talked about using his dad as a sponsor as he has income tax statements. He doesn't earn a lot but it does exceed the income requirements. However, his dad has criminal records, jailed for procession of cannabis (2 months) and jailed for not paying traffic fines twice (16 days). My boyfriend has no criminal record. If the financial requirement is there to make sure that I won't be relying for state support, can I support my own application? I would have saving of over £10,000 by the time we apply. I think I have a good chance of getting work straight away. I'm currently working as a specialist caregiver. I have a college degree from a decent British university. Lots of experiences in different roles. I'm a British citizen. We've been together about 1 year and a half, met online 2 years ago. I have visited him twice in the US, and he went on family holiday with me. All and all, we've spent 3 months together (in person) so far. Our communication is well documented, pictures with family, calls & msg etc. At the moment, We meet every 2-3 months. I hope you can provide some guidance, the whole thing is a headache to me Thank you

Anika A There is not set answer for "how long you have to show work" - you want to understand the income requirement. USCIS wants to see stable income and ability for them to be confident the beneficiary can be financially supported by you or your family or friends. One of things we do when you use the Visa Streamline Service or the do it yourself K1 visa Kit and it has worked very well is understanding what is the best way to get your application approved quickly and without RFEs. And for income requirement it means what can you provide USCIS so they can quickly determine that the beneficiary will not become a public charge. You can do this in various ways but the order of what will mostly likely not delay your application to meet the income requirement is to show: 1. sufficient income based on your last income tax return. 2. If not, second best option is to have a joint sponsor who can show this. 3. Other ways to provide sufficient proof - paystubs, assets, etc If you need help use our Visa Streamline Service or the K1 Visa Kit.

This is wrong - the website say's they want a notary signed from the childs father they dont need a court order document - getting sole custody is almost impossible in any western country as it's completely giving up all rights. The website say's notary signed and that will suffice..

Thanks for the video. I still, however, do not understand how to read the minimum income requirement tables. For the "size of family unit" who all does this include? Neither my foreign born fiancée or I have any children/dependents so is this number 2 or what (even though at the time of application we're not a technically a family yet)? If your fiance, the US citizen, is the financial sponsor and he has no other dependents. Then his family unit size is 2 - you and him. Also, $15930 refers to the amount the US citizen must make annually. Check their tax return, did they show making more than this or less? hello i am the petitioner for my k1 fiance who is from syria and living in turkey, My fiancee, omar's, interview is september the 21st but I'm worried about not being able to provide a couple of documents. obviously since syria is in war it is very hard to get anything from the government ie family extract, birth certificate, and police records. omar has his original family extract and birth certificate but they are old and not recently printed which I'm not sure is required in the Ankara embassy. me and omar are both 20 years old and omar left syria at 17 which makes him elligable for a police certificate. he also stayed in lebanon as a visitor for 8 months before moving to turkey, does this mean he needs a police certificate from lebanon as well even though there is no way for people who were just visitors in lebanon to get a police certificate (omar commited no crimes and has never been convicted). please give me advice, I'm afraid the consular will not understand his difficult circumstances! if there is any advice you guys could provide that would be great!

Hi Summer, the US embassy's K1 visa process is currently undergoing some changes in an attempt to streamline the k1 process and they are trying to eliminate some of these forms. Unfortunately, what this means to you is that the embassy the foreign fiancé may or may not use some or all of the forms you mentioned. Don't worry when the foreign fiancé receives the Embassy instructions, they will clearly state what forms need to be completed. So simply wait until these instructions are received and follow them as instructed. i have been interviewd but after it consul sayd ok we dont need any docs from you anymore wait for your name to be called in the courier so my thinking i was approved why he didnt even told me his reasons why my docs are under on admin review it is according to the courier, now it is on admin processing,i presented all req. complete,clean,presentable usem says we dont need any docs from u anymore after 2 weeks we didnt email u get ur passport it means my visa is not ok,why is that

is there a possibility for a k1 visa to be approve even if me and my fiance still didnt meet personally? because he undergo medical treatment and the doctor didnt allow him to travel that far, he have all his medical records to prove, that is the only requirement we dont have,, meeting face to face, we know each other for almost year and half now

denisse cornejo were you able to find an answer to your question? Medical reasons are the only requirement that can be waived. As long as your fiancé has documentation from a Doctor the meeting in person can be waived but it is very hard to do.

Hi, i would like to know how can my spouse fill up the employment section in the first form of the visitor visa? She has not any job certificate; note that have a job offer and a LMIA open from Alberta, i've read that spouses of qualified workers can apply for a open work permit. To meet one of the K1 requirements the affidavit of support is required. You, the petitioner, need to send it to her. Read the instructions your fiance received from the Embassy, it should state I-134 required. Send this to your fiance asap. Do you know if you meet the income requirements to sponsor her? I plan to get married next year to my fiance. I will be paying for everything. I am working but only part time. I will be done with school the end of this year. So my income will not be high. I also have a child. I do not know how much money I need to make. I will be able to work and make a decent wage in 2016. Can I show them the proof of my employment and my degree as evidence of my ability to work. I also have worked and made over 23,000 a year for 6 years. You can get a co sponsor if your income is not enough. Income requirements also depends which state you're in. Hawaii and Alaska have higher poverty guidelines compared to other states.

But before you decide this, its important to figure out where you will be in 4-6months when it is time for the interview. Will you still be working in another country. Also, be sure you have all your supporting documents with you so you do not have to fly home to get them. :)
