Unfortunately, the movie version (Chaz Jankel's version) of the soundtrack does not exist. Why? The movie version of the soundtrack was composed by Chaz Jankel, but (according to what I know) he was fired from the production. Maybe Chaz Jankel resigned. Who knows!?! Whatever Chaz Jankel was created was used for the movie at the time. And the movie studio hired no-good!, hyped!, exaggerated! "hans zimmer" to rewrite the soundtrack for the movie. Basically, hans zimmer was "paid" to F*** it up! Then the soundtrack for the movie turned into "classical tone" with some guitar here and there. Here is my 2 cents! The hans zimmer version is a joke that I would not even find worthy enough to piss on, compared to what originally Chaz Jankel created. For whatever petty reason, If the movie studio did not want to work with "Chaz Jankel". Fine! I get it! But at least they should have hired the best musician, who could, not only!, pull this off, but also take Chaz Jankel's performance to another "epic" level. The movie studio should have hired "GIORGIO MORODER", not a joke called "hans zimmer"! Thank God the movie studios, at least, used Chaz Jankel's music for the movie version.

Climbing large mountains is not glamorous at all. This movie depicts that nicely. Physical effort is 50% Mental effort is 50% Skill is the rest; yes I said the rest. Whether you summit often depends on how bad you want the summit. It’s sheer will power and that accomplishment becomes a part of you forever. It changes you forever. Remember though getting to the top is optional, getting back down is mandatory. Safe climbing everyone and remember to always trust your instincts.

Such a beautiful, amazing score for this movie. This is one of those great films where the music truly meets and then raises the bar. And as much as I love Hans Zimmer, his music for this could not have touched this Chaz Jankel score.
@scottwalker90952 жыл бұрын
i wish they would have released this score on cd. I agree, Hans Zimmer is amazing, but this score made the movie. I've seen the movie with the zimmer score and it sucked, although had some extra scenes that i thought showed more of Taylor's character and what an asshole he was.

I have this movie on DVD. Will never get rid of it. I also have the full sized movie poster as well. The acting in this movie is full on REAL. No faking the climbing scenes, as you feel the bravery and strength of the climbers. You also feel the spirit of the climbers; nothing is impossible for a true climber. I've climbed the places in the movie that were filmed in British Columbia for this film; I used to live in Vancouver BC where climbing was an integral part of my life back then. I attempted Everest but got altitude sickness and had to come down. Climbing is one of truest self-reflective things one can do that truly tests your medals and the ability to overcome your own fears and self-doubt. You're balancing on the fine line between bravery/confidence/climbing skills VS risk/death/unknowns every time you go up there. Whether or not you make the summit, every climb attempt forever changes you. Safe climbing to all, make your dreams come true!

With no soundtrack released and no internet (yet) no one really knew who the song was by. I thought it was Roger Waters at first myself. Chaz Jankel is really an underrated musician. "Number One" off the Real Genius soundtrack was one of my favorite songs in the 80s.

Probably the best climbing film, even if it wasn't super accurate. It gives you a good idea of the travel needed to reach some of these high peaks and while it minimized the actual summiting efforts, it honestly didn't need to. Best part of the film though was the two main characters bonding as they endured the summit and treacherous descent and rescue. Honestly liked Taylor's character and also that of Dallas in this film (played by Bercovici who also played a similar asshole in 'American Flyers'), because these two guys are like a lot of dudes I knew when I raced bikes who were very goal oriented and winner take all types. Kinda worthwhile to watch American Flyers just to see a bit more of that Dallas character's type.

Reason why no OST? Not too sure but I do know there's 2 different sountracks for the film. This one is by Chaz Jankel and is by far one of the best "Mountaineering" soundtracks ever. Chaz's music is on the U.S. theatrical and VHS releases while the other "digustingly thrown together too fast" soundtrack was by Hans Zimmer for the European release. And Zimmer's soundtrack could be found in stores at the time. But Chaz's never made it. Again, stupid studio politics ruined it for the rest of us! Now we can't get the soundtrack and we have to listen to youtube rips. Studio executives are so damn dumb!
