Overall, this is an accurate analysis. The K21 is an IFV tailored for the Korean Peninsula and is a weapon that places importance on firepower and mobility. However, this does not mean that there is a lack of shields. If war breaks out on the Korean Peninsula, South Korea will eliminate North Korea's rear with powerful firepower and quickly break through to the Chinese border with K2 and K21, which can cross rivers. Korea expects a fight with China and will not repeat the history of 70 years ago. Thanks.

The Redback is a K-21 power generation type, but it is actually a modified version of the K-9 body. It is the first land equipment developed by a company that maintains the amphibious equipment while developing the K-21 and intends to introduce it because the viability of Korea's armored vehicles is not suitable for the modern battlefield. It is completely different from the K-21 in that it sells any turret and battlefield equipment required by the introducing country based on its ability to integrate them. The K-21 is a special specification only for the Korean military, so it is very unfit for the natural environment and doctrine of other countries.
@aerithofmyore7 ай бұрын
The K21 is suitable for countries that need big firepower but is constricted by the terrain like rivers. Tropical countries would benefit greatly from buying K21s. There's a market for the K21, it just needs armour upgrades, next gen thermal and sights with APS systems and u have mainstay for the upcming 2-3 decades of IFV.

A little while back, to get some Excel training in, I carried out an analysis of six IFVs, to try and determine which was the best. I won't bore you with the methodology, but here are the 'effectiveness' rankings: (1) Namer. (2) Puma. (3) Lynx. (4) CV90. (5) K21. (6) Warrior. But when your feed in the procurement costs, you get these 'cost effectiveness' rankings: (1) Namer. (2) K21. (3) Warrior. (4) CV90. (5) Puma. (6) Lynx. Which means that if I were buying something to accompany tanks, I would opt for the Namer, but buy the K21 if it had to operate without tank support. The clever South Koreans, like the clever Israelis, seem to have done an excellent job with their capability management. Now, I'll sit back, see what you made of it, and then adjust my spreadsheet.

I doubt Israeli armoured vehicles would work nice outside of Israel, it might have the ticks, but the actual capability might be a lot lower compared to the exportable vehicles of the other OEMs elsewhere... Just like taking Singapore's Hunter or Bionix AFVs into the doctrine of the western armies or into the desert... it would fail hard and bloody as it's designed for the local doctrine, and the likely defensive offensive nature of it.

@Panorama-memory9 ай бұрын
These characteristics and the required capabilities of this armored vehicle are due to the characteristics of the South Korean army. It was created in anticipation of a huge all-out war between the states, that is, the most abundant war resource is soldiers. At the expense of defense, we got amphibious capabilities, which are inversely proportional to each other. It's easy to understand the big picture of the South Korean military. When war breaks out, South Korea's 7th Army begins its northward march. The goal is to capture Pyongyang within three days. The ROK's 7th Army is a formidable force, about 50% of the total firepower of the South Korean army. It's probably comparable to the firepower of all of Europe, and it's all mechanized. To understand this, you can't forget about China. If war breaks out, China will be there. You need a force of this size to match the firepower of China's entire northeastern garrison and the North Korean army, which means the 7th Division has to have a firepower advantage against the entire northeastern front of China and the North Korean army. Push north as fast as you can before the Chinese come south. The mission is to push the front line as far north as possible. The ability to cross rivers is paramount to this war machine, allowing us to take control of areas and build massive military bridges. The war is won or lost by pushing north as fast as possible and establishing defenses.

the KF 21 Redback is a possible faauvorite in the Romanian Tender (that should start this year) for almost 298 Tracked IFvs, in which it will compete with the Lynx and the ASCOND. Look, ill be honest, i love how the Lynx looks, but i would not mind having either the Lynx of the KV21, and it may be that we will go with the Korean Version (though it is still not 100%, we've started producing Lynxes and Rheinmetal is catching up to the Sout Korean Presence in our Industry) so this tender might lear to a feroucious competition. However, as i've said, considering that we've selected and are closing the deal on the K9 thunder and that the K2 Black Panther is almost all but assured to be selected as our new MBT, with interest in the Ksam and the Chun moo as a suplement for our HIMARS, it seems that Romania and South Korea will cooperate quite close in the future

I'm surprised you did a detail and good analysis for K21 in this video great job ! But as you mentioned K21 is focused in firepower and mobility, but present days the vehicles defense hence the crew survivability is the most important priority because 1. Korea is facing declining birth rate translating to less and less conscript manpower. 1 K21 destroyed is 12 casualty so APS and ERA and/or slat armors are absolutely necessary. 2. Korean peninsula is very mountainous, so since ancient time all the major route are pre determined and well known, so any future potential battles will be fought in those choke points with very high intensity many will also happen in urban environment, it is inevitable. Large scale maneuver war is only possible if you breakthrough the major strong points. 3. Each N.K. squad have 1-2 rpg, so I highly doubt current K21 can withstand couple or even one normal rpg rounds, not to mention N.K large number of tandem rpg rockets they have at ready. K21 inflatable tube river crossing capability is a topic of debate, because sure it allow the vehicles to cross many river in the peninsular but the weight limit for this ability forbit the vehicle to add other essential equipments hence disrupt upgrade options. Because of this K21 is very light compare to other IFVs, 28t while other NATO countries standards are 40 to 50t, Israeli Namer is 65t ! And Korea is procurring M3 mobile amphibious rigs which make IFVs and APCs amphibious capability less relevant. What's the point to cross rivers on you own just to get destroyed by RPGs on the other side. So for the upgrade of the K21 the integration of long awaited ATGM, APS and at least slat armor must be mounted on every vehicles. Some K21 keep it's amphibious capability to outflank in intense battles that will happen in few flat plains area of the peninsular but the rest majority should remove it completely to add more armor and ERA blocks to protect the all important passengers. The best will be to adopt a 40mm canon version of the AS21. If Korean war ever resume again ROKA vehicles be receiving at LOT of artillery shelling, rockets, RPGs, anti-armor guns and mines. These vehicles will be needed and will face in the most intense and ferocious battles so it's defense will be a lot more important than it's mobility. ROKA should adpot Israel doctrine of prioritizing the soldiers protection and survival cause they will always get less conscript than now, in 2010s 600,000 was in service now it's 500,000 and it will be 400,000 soon, while N.K will keep it's force at 1M+

The Bradley armored vehicle used by the Ukrainian army hunted down the Russian T-90M with its 25mm cannon. The Korean Army's 40mm guns are intended to be shared with the Korean Navy's 40mm naval guns, which the Korean Navy possesses in abundance. So, is the power of the K-21's gun weak? Most Koreans still don't think they are strong. Korean men were all soldiers in the past, and they think of weapons, strategies, and tactics very differently from those of volunteer military countries. Additionally, all Korean defense industry managers and employees were military personnel. Currently, Korea ranks 5th in the world in the 2024 GFP ranking.

I will say... is not. Is not a sound alternative to buy into right now. First of all - vehicle lacks any protection against mine blasts. On example of Ukraine, Anti-tank landmines are widely used and would turn K21 into mass grave. Firepower, while seemingly good - it does require hoppers being fed continuously by crew manually. And it's ability to float is an afterthought, using floaters doesn't seem very safe as artillery shrapnel can easily cause it to drown. There was a reason why for export AS-21 was offered. It fixes a lot of issues of K21, dispenses with premise of being able to swim and gives better protection. At this mass level the protection seems exceptional - but begs the question what design compromises had to be made to allow that, there are no free lunches or magic materials that provide protection without substantial mass increase (and no, it doesn't have large sheets of graphene, in current world it would be prohibitively expensive) in use. It would need to be seen in actual combat to validate it's performance characteristics, to see how problematic is feeding hoppers, how practical it's amphibious capability is and how well it does overall. I remain skeptical in many aspects here.
