Part 1 of the K24A Swap into a 1995 Honda Civic Coupe.
In this video I start preparing the engine for the swap. I tear-down the K24A in preparation for some 'must do' modifications I will install in a future episode. Including:
- 45 deg VTC gear
- K20A2 oil pump
- Hondata intake manifold gasket
- 2005 accord throttle body (needed to work with the stock 95 civic throttle cable)
- 2005 accord water pump housing/passage (needed to mount a USDM alternator)

Dude I cant thank you enough for this series, please keep it up because you somehow are doing exactly what I want to do for my hathc, up to the ac and everything. You're a blessing, I'm gonna start making some youtube videos on it too little by little because there arent a lot of resources on here for doing this, especially without paying an arm and a leg, and Doing it yourself. I'm assuming here, and I use that loosely, you went with that motor due to strictly cost. My k24z3 ek swap is making great power with the K-tuned downpipe and full exhaust. Great video though. Straight to the point and easy to follow
@e-dod
@e-dod 2 жыл бұрын
I mainly went with this engine because it was easy to find and lots of information was available on it. I was under the impression that the K24z engines had different sensors and would not work with the 02-04 RSX engine harness with Hondata without modification. Curious what engine harness your using and ECU?

Good video. Thanks for sharing and good luck to you. What are your goals for power/reliability?!
@e-dod
@e-dod 2 жыл бұрын
Power close to 200WHP I would be fine with. More concerned with reliability and having fun street car. This is the main reason I kept the stock K24 intake as opposed to an RBC intake and am running a 2.5in exhaust. RBC would definitely get me over 200WHP but I am not willing to sacrifice any torque for overall power. Maybe in the future that will change though. Still would be interested in inputs from others who have swapped out the K24 intake for RBC.

@@e-dod totally get it. I’m in the same boat as you. I’m making around 170 now and would be more than happy with 200-210. I’m trying to figure out the host cost effective way to do and reliable as well. This cars are fun as is so going from 170 to 200 is a 20% bump in power and noticeable enough for me. Congrats to you brother and keep us posted.

I’m going to be running a k24a in my EG6 and was wondering if a Civic Type R EP3 engine loom would be ok ?
@e-dod
@e-dod 2 жыл бұрын
I would assume it would be ok and you would just have to do the typical modifications to it for it to work with the K24a such as crank sensor connector and possibly VSS connector depending on what trans you use. I am assuming though that the EP3 would follow the same ECU pinout as a 2002 RSX type S since Honda tends to keep the pinouts the same across model years.

@e-dod
@e-dod 2 жыл бұрын
No there should be a cover you can remove just for the tensioner. Note that the stock cover is just a black piece of stamped metal and it bends real easy and requires hondabond when you put it back on so I really like the K-Tuned cover. I install one on my engine in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2nFeKabf82mo7s at 4:24. It will make it much easier to replace/service/inspect the tensioner in the future.

Great vid. Very helpful info. Is 50 degree VTC gear overkill? I see they're more commonly sold. $320 for a 45 degree. $140 for 50 degree. Any input? Thanks.
@e-dod
@e-dod Жыл бұрын
It could be overkill. I have seen a lot of people just run the 50 degree and limit it in the ECU to 45 or less (depending on if you have aftermarket cams with more lift). The idea behind the 45 is that there is zero percent chance it could ever go past 45, possibly causing valve to piston contact on a K24. But with a 50 degree limited to 45 by the ECU, I am not sure what the chance of it going past 45 and causing an issue would be. Might be almost zero. I decided not to take that chance since I could not find good documentation on what that risk was.
@slumpedmage

@e-dod Love the detailed response. I appreciate it. I will just get 45 as a foolproof measure. It just sucks because they're much more expensive! Thanks!

I think its pretty much a direct bolt in. I am not familiar with the 06 CRV wire harness and if you should use Hondata or K-Tuner for ECU though. But one of those should allow you to keep your stock wire harness and just install the new engine.

Your car has a k24 but its not a k24a like this one, its a K24z. Fundamentally the engines are similar but they have many differences as well. I am not aware of all the differences as the k24z is not as popular as the K24a for engine swaps and I have never owned or worked on a K24z.

Which one is better jdm k24a or k24a2?
@e-dod
@e-dod Жыл бұрын
Performance wise they are the same. The JDM k24a is easier to find in good condition and cheaper since Japan put them in more cars so they are more readily available. Only downside is that it has JDM alternator that cannot be purchased in the states so if your alternator goes bad you have to change the entire water pump housing. On my JDM k24a I swapped out the JDM water pump housing and installed a 2005 Accord housing & alternator so that I won't have to worry about finding a JDM alternator if I ever need one. Also, the JDM k24a does not have all the emissions systems the K24a2 has so depending on the car your swapping in and your state laws you might have to add those emissions systems. If I did the swap again I would still get a JDM k24a though since they are so easy to find in good condition & low miles for cheaper then a K24a2.
