Sorry to hear about Lemon. We had a cat pass away suddenly as well. Her mouth was bothering her, took her to the vet, diagnosed with cancer, and was around for about 2-3 more weeks. It sucks when you expect them to be around a lot longer.

So sorry about the loss of your Cat. I'm scared I have to put down my cat soon as well. She is now totally blind, but finds her way to the litter box the food up and down stairs jumps up and down from the sofa and she is 20 years old. So we are waiting to see if she gets any worse, but the bloodwork was fine. And we have monthly checkups with the vet. So fingers crossed she makes it through the summer at least.

Agreed. As a novice to high performance steels, I was amazed at the fact I was able to get a usable edge (comfortably shaving, cleanly slicing paper) with just the worksharp field sharpener. Great stuff this steel is, gets and stays far sharper than I will ever need for my daily use, and I don't find it much harder than s30v to sharpen, with a much better return on investment in terms of effort sharpening vs edge retention. Also rest in peace to Lemon, an OG of the channel.

k390 is my favorite steel as well. Super great performing steel, you can get it on pretty affordable models like the Stretch 2 and so on. Fairly easy to maintain. I would love to see Spyderco do some Rex 54 Mules and sprint runs. Considering Spyderco has done so many Rex steel, I think Rex 54 should be explored next. It got 1% more vanadium compared to Rex 45, and looks really promising from what's described on the Crucible page

Properly heat treated Magnacut has been kind of a godsend for me because I don't feel like I'm sacrificing a ton in the name of not having my knives being rusty. Still - K390 was everything I wanted in a steel. Toothy hard working stuff but salt in the air makes it a no go. blows my mind how folks, even folks like this guy who do this for a living still don't understand that hardness has fuck all to do with grindability when comparing steels. 65 hrc 1095 will grind like butter next to 40 hrc k390. Why? Because carbides. How much carbide, what kind of carbide, and what size of carbide. Also sharpening isn't just about grinding away material. it's about forming an apex and removing a burr. guess which makes apex formation easier? higher hardness. Burr removal as well. Harder steels are easier to sharpen than softer steels. They're also usually easier to debur. but like everything else there are caveats to that second point. Certain steels like cobalt high speed steels are notoriously difficult to debur. Also, Your freehand sharpening is dire, man. I can't tell if this like ironic or what. You don't need more minutes. You need to actually learn what the shit you're doing. Anyone with basic skills could do better in 2 minutes.
@budthecyborg45756 ай бұрын
I feel like he's spending too much time polishing. The best way to learn benchstone sharpening is to ONLY sharpen with 80 grit for a month or so, all of your most productive time sharpening is spent on your most coarse grit, if you can't get an edge with 80 grit then polishing is entirely wasted. My method is just using one medium/coarse diamond plate and then strop. The biggest reason to avoid polishing is when you know there's a 99% chance your knife will go dull from accidental edge damage and not from actually cutting things.
