This product and ESPECIALLY THIS COMPANY is amazing. I’m heading north to grizzly country to hunt sheep/grizzly and I’d bugged Exo a few times about this and they sent one to me early knowing it would probably not be available publicly before I left. Amazing service! I’m here to tell you it is great! Very secure and super easy to take the gun off quickly if needed while remaining very secure while hiking. A+ addition to my K4. Thank you!!!

Wow. That's some serious customer service hahaha. I'll definitely have to take a better look at their stuff now knowing they have inherent respect for the consumer. Do you have recommendations for a new big game hunter? I'm in Australia and I've been doing pest shooting most of my life but I'm looking at getting into deer hunting. I already have a lot of nice hiking gear but I definitely need a new pack and additional kit like binos and a rifle carry system. Not too sure where to start, but I'm very much a "buy once, cry once" kinda guy so I want to make sure I get the kit I will use for a long time right from the get go. I don't mind having to save up for a while to get it.

Very cool design -- I'm excited to try it out! Is there an easy way to get the rifle strapped back on while wearing the pack, or do you need to take the pack off to reattach?
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
It is best to take the pack off to re-attach the rifle. In our design and testing process we played with some options that would make re-attachment easier, but those designs compromised the security and stability of the rifle when it was attached. Our priority was rock-solid security and quick-access, more than ease of re-attachment.

I ordered one and used on my first backpack hunt. It worked great when the pack was full, but flopped back and forth when I emptied camp and the bag was not longer stretched out and compressed. Any suggestions on how to fix this going forward?
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
You want to make sure the straps are tightened down across the front of the pack as well when its nearly empty. That will snug down the side straps by pulling them more to the middle of the pack. I'll shoot a video here soon on how to do this. - Steve

looks really great, I'm assuming there is no way to keep a bipod on the rifle with this system
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
It depends on the specific bipod and the position of the rifle/bipod. There is definitely a chance of interference though.

How would you attach differently when you have a day pack size pack? Would you attach differently when you collapse the bottom of the bag? Would you attach the top top differently if you dont have enough volume in the top of the bag?
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
With the built-in adjustability of the webbing, the attachment works well regardless of the size/volume of the bag.
@Eric-bh7jy Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I had issues with the bag compressed. My top part of the rifle would work the strap to move on the tri glide and started flopping around

How do you get the rifle back in the sling and especially the clip one-handed? Do you have to take the pack off to put the rifle in the sling and clip?
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
You do have to take the pack off to re-secure the rifle. We wanted to prioritize ultimate security and quick retrieval of the rifle, and to accomplish those priorities we could not make it so that you could put the rifle back while wearing the pack. At least not by yourself.
@WildernessGrandpa Жыл бұрын
@@ExoMtnGear That makes sense. Thank you for the reply. I'm trying to get my new K4 fine-tuned now before leaving for my hunt on Saturday.

Just purchased and installed. Its great to carry the rifle on my pack but its not quick release. Its actually quite difficult. I can't reach the quick release with my right arm. I have to grab the barrel with my left arm and yank it up and forward to try and release with my right hand. That makes the strap slip between the barrel and scope and it gets caught. Tried lowering the bottom butt piece but that doesn't help. Tried using my wife's full length mirror. Its not easily accessible at all no matter how hard I try. Maybe I'm not as flexible as everyone else?
@ExoMtnGear2 ай бұрын
You should absolutely be able to reach the gun unless you have very poor flexibility. We tested this on quite a few guys who have bad shoulder rotation before we launched and no one had any issues. Your best best is to reach out to us directly and send some pics of you wearing the pack with the rifle mounted. I am guessing something isn't right in how you have it set up.

Hi mate, Just wanted to know if you can put the rifle back in the carrier with the backpack still on? Is it difficult or do you need a buddy to help? Thanks looks like a great idea
@S_drade Жыл бұрын
I just ordered mine! Do you worry about the buckle chaffing on the rifle barrel or stock at all?
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
The buckle does not have an aggressive surface or finish that would be particularly tough on the stock or barrel. But depending on the rifle's material and finish, there could be some eventual surface wear. Our rifles get a lot more wear from hunting the backcountry in general, so any potential of minor rubbing from a smooth buckle isn't something we are personally concerned with for our rifles. If you have a rifle with a delicate finish, then protecting it with something like moleskine may be a good thing to consider.

Can you make a video showing how to attach it to a K3 pack?
Does this rifle carrier only work on the larger packs? Or does it work on the 2200 as well?
@ExoMtnGear2 ай бұрын
It works on a K4 2200 for sure.
@huntingdad Жыл бұрын
I’m interested… except that it doesn’t look that secure. I can see a situation where the rifle might move up and fall completely out. Quick access but is it at the cost of security?
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
Security was our highest priority with this system. The rifle is held rock-solid, even when you are hiking off-trail, at angles, ducking over/under things, etc.
@huntingdad Жыл бұрын
@@ExoMtnGear That’s exactly what I was wondering about (ducking, angles, etc). I think I’ll give it a try. FYI: you might consider making a video about security of the system. I’m sure I’m not the only one with that concern.

Is this compatible with different packs? I currently have a Sitka mtn hauler. And not necessarily looking to buy a whole New pack just to run a good rifle carrier.
@ExoMtnGear5 ай бұрын
We don't test for compatibility with other packs, but the K4 Rifle Carrier does mount pretty easily to any available 1" webbing that most packs should have.

I like the design, probably gonna grab one. Just curious what keeps the buckle from marring up the stock? Let me know when you get a minute please. Great pack by the way! Keep up the great work!

I wanted to like this product but not a fan as it stands. The buttstock sock is too particular, and not like the old design that accepts readily all stocks. This requires you be unpacked to put in the rifle to carry. The tri glide quick relase buckle on upper part is not the locking type like their buckles, so it slips and enlarges as you walk around with your rifle. You will cinch it down but as you traverse, the buckle slips, enlarges, and your rifle barrel comes loose from your pack. I wish they'd include locking triglides. YKK branded, at least. Hope they improve upon this.
@ExoMtnGear Жыл бұрын
If you have time reach out to us directly so we can chat through this and make sure you have everything set up correctly. Something is definitely not correct in how it is set up for you right now. The top buckle is a locking buckle to prevent exactly what you are describing. Once you cinch that down it will not slip or move at all. Also I'm confused on your statement about the lower receiver. It is much more universal and will fit a wider range of stocks than the K3 version did, that was the main reason for the change - Steve

I had the exact same issue with the top buckle. I’ll have to reach out Steve and see what happened
