I've owned this radio since 2010 and have loved it a lot, except mounting any radio in vehicles today presents a challenge that can be frustrating to do so in today's cars & trucks.
@WJ6FRadio9 жыл бұрын
+David Knapp Thank you for your comment! You are correct. It was not any easy task to mount two radios in my car which is a 2014.

+K6DPF My current RV is a Lance truck camper, thus the only place to mount a 2M antenna on my F-350 is the front bumper or along the driver side hood/fender line, Looks strange when the camper is off of the truck.

Awesome video and very informative. You can't go wrong with more powerful transmitter for an emergency radio. Cheers from Three Rivers

Quite similar with 2980, tho ive been comparing the 2980 with icom ic 2300, which one you recommend? And an aerial antenna?
@WJ6FRadio Жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. I have not yet used the IC-2300, and is it in current production? I have used both the FT-2900 and FT-2980. They are the same except that the FT-2980 puts out 80 watts.

@@WJ6FRadio yeah currently in production. Can you kindly check it and compare the two? And give me your pov. Thanks 4G1GMU

I'm about to take my ham exam soon. I've looked everywhere trying to find pointers on getting my first mobile radio in between the (Yaesu 2900r) or the (TYT Th-9000d). There are so many features of the (Yaesu 2900r) I'd like to see on video (1)Smart search (2)Scanning speed compared to TYT (3) memory banks (4) marine bands "receiving only" also I'd like to hear about what antennas work best with this radio

What power supply do you use ? Did you have to make up the cables or are they plug-n-play ?

Thank you for taking the time to watch this video and for your question. I use an SS-30DV by Power Werx. I use Anderson power poles to connect it.

i just ordered one this friday night and should be here next week or so, from what ive read its a nice rig and cant wait to talk on it, how hard is it to program the repeater on the alpha side?
@WJ6FRadio8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment. To program a repeater in to the FT-2900R is quite simple. I have th following video that walks you through it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qYPKpIevirqlfNU

Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. This radio only does 2m (VHF). In fact this radio has been replaced by the FT-2980. The only real difference is that it knows has 80 watts instead of 75 watts. I will say they are a solid radio!
@tonyv8925 Жыл бұрын
You didn't say anything about the FT2980...so, what is the difference?
@WJ6FRadio Жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to watch and the comment! It is greatly appreciated. The reason the FT-2980 wasn't specifically mentioned is because at that time of filming this video it hadn't been manufactured yet. The only difference between the FT-2900 and the FT-2980 is power out put. The FT-2900 is said to put out up to 75 watts while the FT-2980 is said to put out 80 watts. Other than that I believe they are exactly the same. Programming and use of the radio are the same.

+Wes Whaley Thank you for the comment! It is much appreciated. As for the antenna... I use the Diamond X-50 as this radio is used as a base station radio. I went with the FT-2900R due to it being a 75 watt radio, and my experiences with Yaesu radios. I have no experience any TYT products.
