I too was in tears over this story. Watching that dog fight that man off even though it was dark just really hit me hard for some reason. It's very rare that a video makes me a connection this strong. Thank you Hurricane and again I'll say I think every single dog going through training should have a vest included in training costs so they always leave with one no matter where they go. Keep those four legged members safe too

People just don't realize how badass these dogs are. I have a European working line purebred GSD, about 95 pounds of just incredible animal. I've often said my gain is the Navy Seal's loss- with absolutely NO training, this dog spends all day on sentinel duty watching the property and area for anything from a squirrel to people, won't let anything get close to me, and is absolutely fearless. Gunshot, fire trucks, police sirens, thunder- nothing even makes him flinch. We once had three pitbulls get out of their fence when we were out walking- he went after them SO ferociously they ran off... absolutely fearless. Best dog in the world...

@Michael Metzler Sorry, this may have been misunderstood- my dog was never a military animal, I raised him from a puppy- I was saying just from his gene pool that he would have made a great Navy Seal dog based on his innate behaviors. He comes from a breeding line that produced a lot of police and military dogs. He is just barely civilized- he loves me to death and to me is a big slobbery goofball- but anyone else comes near he tells them to go straight to hell, and makes it clear he would love to send them there if they don't immediately comply... have you ever seen a GSD put his paws on someone's shoulders, then just ROAR into their face from a foot away? 😳

I never even knew there was a specific branch of Secret Service dogs! Hurricane is such a good boy, you can tell how much he and his carer love each other, his little facial expressions as his 'dad' was talking are so sweet. Really glad to have learned their story, gives me a new level of appreciation for what these brave people and dogs go through to protect others. Wishing them both many happy years together!

In Canada, when a mountie gets a dog a retirement plan MUST be in place and a credit card goes with the dog for their entire life.

Yes, a police dog is NOT a disposable asset when retired. Bring an accountant out on ONE SHIFT of work, if that doesn't let him see retirement benefits, maybe a few pursuits wearing a bite suit may persuade them. Don't just count the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

Absolutely understand everything he’s saying. My ol’ girl lived 13 years before she took her last breath in my arms. It was by far the hardest loss I’ve ever endured & I’ve had a LOT of loss in my life. It crushed me. I didn’t think I could ever go through that again so I didn’t want another dog after her. However, my family, my two kids & our friends saw how lonely I was and just kept working at me. A few years after she passed they found me SammyJo-and there she was…on my computer screen and somehow, I just knew she was it. It was like Ol’ Denali girl was telling me “‘Ma, it’s okay. She’s it”. Which says something because Denali was always very possessive of me & didn’t like sharing me w/ other dogs so I always told myself, I could dare betray her. I thought she was going to be my one and only. SammyJo will be a year old come April 4th. She is unstoppable. All she wants to do is learn, work for her treats or toys and chill with her momma. I actually did it…while she will never fill the hurt & pain caused by the loss of Denali…I did actually manage to make room for the incredible Miss SammyJo. She’s my best friend and only 10 months in…our bond is like glue made of steel that’s been melted & forged together. She’s just a little bad ass. Aside from thinking her 65 pound ass is a lap dog. 😂😂🙄🤷🏼‍♀️😝

My dog turns 10 next month, and he's got himself a serious cancer that's inoperable. Right now, he's on borrowed time, but he doesn't know that. He still acts like a puppy. Since he's an American Akita, my wife is all 'American Akita or no dog at all', and I agree with her. So, because we'll eventually be without a dog, I went looking for another American Akita puppy. What I found was a dead ringer for my dog. Looked identical to him when he was that age (8 weeks). Right down to the location, depth, size, and shape of the spots (American Akita come in 5 fur colors, White, Black, Fawn (brown and tan), Brindle (muddled black, brown, tan and white), and Pinto. Pinto is the one with the spots). As uncanny as it'd be to have a puppy that looks exactly like the dog I've already got, I think I'll try looking for a white one.

What a fantastic idea and thoughtful way to give back to Hurricane’s K9 brothers and sisters! He is no doubt a hero and of course a full on fur missile! I just switched my Amazon Smile Charity to Hurricane’s Hero’s. I will be asking my friends and family to do the same. Also sharing your story. It was meant to be that he was yours. It just was. How can you explain it except that it was just so right?!?! No animal who has served should ever be put down for money. Never ever! I would eat tree bark for the rest of my life before I did that. I have never put my animals down for money. Never. I’m blessed I am. I could not live in my skin. It’s not an option. I have had many animals in my life and when the vet comes in with those three papers … 1. It’s $30K 2. Euthanize 3. Surrender. My answer always is throw the last two options out get my fur baby into surgery and the money is at the front desk already. I’m lucky but I’m very aware that many are not. Helping dogs that have served should all have care for life. No question. I’m so glad I found your story….Hurricane’s Heroes. He is a very handsome dog and love’s that Kong! My American Pitbull Terrier, Jasper, was never a working dog but easily could have been. I saw him lay it all on the line for me multiple times, and I would've done the same for him. When you spend every hour of every day for 13 years with a dog that's connected at the hip, you get to know exactly what they're thinking, and how they're going to act in every situation, and vise versa. You basically become each others whole world, and at some point, they're no longer a dog in your eyes....they literally become your best friend. I've endured alot of bad things in my life, but the absolute single worst experience was seeing my boy go through those doors, and the veterinarian bearing the worst news imaginable shortly after. It's an indescribable pain that no one understands, because they didn't share that bond. It really is like losing a child

Hello, I was doing the same training with my American Staffordshire Terrier just for Fun every Saturday. Where Shelter Doggy's, most agressive, Pitty's, Staffy's ,Bully's gets trained for their Resozialisierung!!!! So that they have a Chance to get a lovely home, adopted!!!!! My AmericanStaffordshire Terrier wasn't from a Shelter but her friend was, so that's why we were there. Solidarität!!! This was ADRENALIN pure!!!!!! My Dog was my best friend everybody loved her, so well behavied friendly, funny, sensitive, very powerfull, soft with Childrens, 100% loyal, non verbal Communication between us. (I love those German Sheperds,but i really love seeing K9 Units with other breeds too) I soo can relate to Marshalls story about seeing Hurricane going to war with this guy,and that normally a dog taking you down like Hurricane did,would be the end of it. But there are those few who might be influenced by something,or they are mentally unstabile or whatever,wich ends up putting up this massive fight against a highly trained K9. (Shoot,even puts up a fight against multiple officers trying to get them to the ground) It really moved me to tears,hearing Hurricanes story through Marshalls own words. Then i instantly turned into a smile around 17:31 I bet Hurricane knows exactly what he was talking about. Many says that you wont find anyone more loyal then a loving dog,they will protect you with theyr own life at risk,many dogs just do it on pure instinct without training. Like "nobody threatens my human family!" And even if they are hurt beyond words,theyr main focus seems to be having theyr own "dad/mom" give them recognition,approval and love for what they did.

Make sure when these doggies will get to enjoy their life happily till there last breathe when they they can’t service anymore. Appreciate their services and not forgotten! It’s pity that when they grow old they have to put down that’s the worse and painful experience! They all deserved so much more after they retired Remember them! My dog has a chew toy like the k9.for some reason we call it the rabbit. The rabbit is looked for every evening by our dog, Billy.because we fill it with treats .
