Great review Sam! I wasn't expecting the shoutout haha If anyone is interested in learning more, just google "K9TECC guidelines" or ask me questions on IG (@tacticalveterinarian)

What do you think about the tac med K9 tq? Have you seen it before? www.tacmedsolutions.com/TacMed-K9-Tourniquet
@tacticalveterinarian5 жыл бұрын
@@shamroc514 Excellent question! I owe several and have tested it. It works, HOWEVER, for the price- you can buy several pressure bandages, ace wraps or SWATT that works just as well for dogs...and they have the added benefit of being multipurpose. In addition, under stress or low light conditions, the Tacmed K9 TQ looks/feels similar to the SOFTT (but minus the windlass) and you wouldn't want to grab the wrong TQ for the wrong species haha
@shamroc5145 жыл бұрын
@@tacticalveterinarian I've messed with the k9TQ and was worried about it not having a windless, as well as dogs having a bit more bones and joints. I suppose a windless would be more potential for harm than good. In K9s, are we looking to aclude blood flow? Or are we fighting the blood loss before we get to a vet? Obviously I'm not a veterinarian. I'm not sure about the hurdles when it comes to K9/equine trauma care.
@tacticalveterinarian5 жыл бұрын
@@shamroc514 The purpose of any extremity TQ is to completely stop hemorrhage. A windlass is not needed for working k9s or your average pet dog (40-80lbs) because their limbs are smaller- which is why a pressure bandage/ace wrap or SWATT work just fine
@shamroc5145 жыл бұрын
@@tacticalveterinarian awesome! Thank you! Have you considered maybe making a K9 trauma series? I'm sure Sam would be down to help.

Very little coverage online on medical training for your dogs, even though most of this community probably has multiple dogs in a home, like me. Thanks for touching base on this! 🐕

We had K9 IFAKs in my USAF days. I forget who made them then but a very good tool for us K9 handlers. Thanks for covering our furry partners.

PrepMedic: Hey thanks for this video. I'm not an "K9 Handler", but I do have a great friend and partner, yes a K9. We spend a lot of time out in the desert or in the mountains, and this "K9 Kit" is really needed, again thanks from the "both of us"!
@kentheyorkshireman62574 жыл бұрын
You can actually get a vest for dogs that has molle on it. You might have to find a pouch to spread the weight out but having the dog carry their own kit could come in useful as it's possible to be separated and have other officers closer that could render aid instead of waiting for the handler to arrive. Just a thought

Thanks for the video. I would recommend adding non-emergency items to this kit such as a collapsible cup for water and maybe some treats, not to mentions some litter bags. Thanks PrepMedic!

Smart idea for our little buddies. I have a small bugout kit attached to a cage for my pet. I added "Revolution antibiotic' for cats and dogs and Polysporin spray antibiotic that gets into fur for cuts and doesn't attract dirt like the paste.
@artur43905 жыл бұрын
I'd personally add a razor; could be useful in a lot of situations

Not a bad idea. I will probably add that in along with a bag of saline and a decompression needle.

There are full molle jackets for dogs. Very usefull. Add ENTEREX, maybe has another name, it is a poison absorbent made with active carbon. Maybe the dog eats something poisoning. And add water.

What about compartment syndrome with the Ace bandage. I get thats a secondary concern with an uncontrolled bleed, especially on the pupper. But just wanted to here your thoughts
@PrepMedic5 жыл бұрын
Compartment syndrome isn’t a reason not to use a tourniquet and is really only an issue if you don’t tighten it enough and only make a veinous TQ
