Such a great review Chris. I had doubts when I saw the tang was skelconized. However it seems you've had no issues. Mine is on the way. What oil should I use to stop rusting? Thanks again.

Bk-16 takes care of 85% of all I need , sheath allows for carrying sharpening,ferro rod & tinder , wire , light, needle, P-38 etc … easy to sharpen you could do a lot WORSE AT TWICE THE MONEY …. oh and a stash for 5) 1/10 oz gold eagles in the scales

I just hate the ergonomics of the bk16, it is too thin where my intex finger is. To be comfy, you have to rest the thoumb on the blade shoulder. I don't refret buying it, but I do regret spending the money on a leather sheath and micarta handles. Never use the knife, it is just there. Helle Utvaer and Casstroms field knife is my prefered, but I do enjoy the esee 6.Good review though. it is a great starter knife, and great quality. But feel the knifes handle before you buy it, might not be for you.

Actually, I hated my BK-16 too when I first bought it, but I got some G-10 handles from The Knife Connection and it is a huge difference in feel/ergonomics (to me anyway). I actually like the knife now, whereas before I was like "why did I waste $100 on this piece of crap". I'm assuming the Becker micarta handles have the same shape/contour as the stock crappy plastic ones, which is I didn't bother getting those. I do need to get a custom kydex sheath for it though.

@@drouleau Yeah, it should be pretty easy to customize the handles if you work with G10 at all. I got the Becker Micarta scales and will try them out to see how I like them. If not I can always sell them and I have some great blue carbon fiber that I got ages ago that I've never shaped. I have rather smallish hands though, so it might work out. Sounds like you guys have those big mitts, or at least long fingers. I also bought a Kydex sheath from RK Custom. The price was right, and you don't have to pay for any hardware if you already have it.
