Thank you for this video. I hope I can catch onto your shadow trick. Of course, the sharpie method would be hard to fail.

What would you (or anybody) recomend to use for sharpening the Ka-Bar Pestilence Chopper?

See this video is important because any ka bar ive ever bought came super dull, like brick dull. (I only buy the real 7" ka bars)

+Jesse Burlison Then you have been extremely unlucky. I have never seen a dull Ka-Bar from the factory. Never, ever. I've seen so many I long ago lost count, and all came razor sharp. Unless you buy one of the counterfeits.

my BK-2 was very sharp when I got it, was slicing paper like nothing, not sure how much sharper you need your knife to be or for that matter for what purpose. Maybe you need to buy a scalpel next time

@@jamesritchie6899 I got a (genuine) BK2 dull as a brick from Ka Bar... conversely I got a Ka Bar mule which is likely the sharpest from-the -factory blade I EVER had on any knife... I recall foolishly slicing my finger open the first time I deployed the blade. Didn't take much for that blade to do damage to my finger. One of 2 times I let a knife get me like that (not bad for 52 years).

This kind of manmade stone will also eat your knife in fairly short order. You may not notice it for quote a while, but if you use a knife a lot, you can reduce the lifetime of a usable blade by half. Diamond stones are almost as bad, long-term. Both cut steel to an amazing extent, removing far more than it takes to sharpen a knife. Natural stones, good ones, such as true Arkansas, do not do this. Artificial Japanese water stones are made to remove a LOT of metal, or to remove almost none, and are of far, far higher quality than the kind of manmade stone we have in America.

Thanks James Ritchie. I'll check into these true Arkansas stones you recommend.

why not just use an electric sand belt?

***** My point is what kind of soldier is worried about a damn knife, when they're out trying not to get blown the fuck up by IEDs...

***** I don't need to serve in the military to know how soldiers work. My father, Grandpa, Uncle, tell me how it was on the field. Not to mention the countless videos, and doxumenteries of soldiers... Do you ever see them with knives? Didn't hear a single goddamn thing about caring for knives... Because, like I said, IEDs and sudden ambushes are the new ways of enemies engagements. So the whole "military use" phrase is just another label on a product to help it boost in sales. Oh and one last thing; "This knife was designed at a time where IEDS didn't exsist..." Okay, we were talking about knives in general... Even if it was whatever knife you were thinking of, I'd like for you to go and look at when IEDs were first coming into play... (In case you couldn't find it, IEDs, such as tripwires, have been used in THE CIVIL WAR... So, what were you saying?) www.brookings.edu/research/articles/2012/02/improvised-explosive-devices-singer

***** Well, most soldiers are given the resources or proper tools to dig up a hole, cut food, etc.

+Brian LO I doubt anyone is still reading this comment section, but the reason you don't use a sanding belt is because it will destroy the temper of the blade and reduce its future sharpen-ability. This video was somewhat on point, but the water stones he used create slurry with the metal shavings and particulate from the stone; if you use them dry, they don't work. Another issue with this video was his strop. You need thin leather on a hard wood board after applying a sharpening compound, not just leather. If you don't have the compound, which is an abrasive substance suspended in a thick wax or clay, then it just won't do anything to your knives with a blade thicker than a straight razor. What the strop is intended to do is to refine the sharpened crystalline structure at the very tip of the edge which will prevent chipping and warping of the cutting edge. Straight razors are so thin that a compound would be too much, but I assure you that you'll need a compound for any other knife.

Guys watch a different video if ya have a lansky DO NOT FOLLOW HIS WAY just read the directions that come with it the bar and stone need to be level put the bar in lay stone flat so bar and stone are even if there's a bend in bar and there will because how tight there held in the box tighten it up then bend the bar opposite of bend till its straight
@DoodleU76565 жыл бұрын
You're really chewing that knife up with the Lansky. You are supposed to use as long of a stroke as possible.
