Acharya Jayanta Bose | The difference between the artist and the entertainer

Acharya Jayanta Bose speaks about the difference between an entertainer and an artist. An entertainer is the person who accedes to the demands of his patrons while the artist creates his own path. He explains that the artist’s basic needs to survive must be fulfilled so that the artist can pursue his responsibilities. Art can create beautiful emotional moments that inspire people to think everything in positive lights. He talks about the responsibilities which remain for both the performer and the listener in Classical music. It is the artist’s responsibility to create the brightness in the listener’s mind and on the other hand listeners also must know how to appreciate the performance and the work created by the artist. He also explains the meaning of Riyaz and Sadhana. According to him Riyaz in its purest form becomes Sadhana. Sadhana does not demand any worldly reward in return.

I really do not agree on this differences. When an artist is successful , is accepted by public , In my opinion , then artist will became an entertainer as well. Entertainer also has to be emotional to be accepted by public. When public accepts path created by entertainer or Artist , then both became same of existance . Highly successful back ground and stage singers also artist of high caliber. Kishore kumar , Michel Jacson and Asha Bolse are great examples. If I have to agree by his opinion , artist will never became successful ? or Entertainer can not create their own path like Artist ?

Artist can be both of the kinds..be a creator or an expert copier.Choice is simply yours. You can take a short cut and get a temporary fame in the rat race.Or be for a long run ,gather so much knowledge,create something that you and others can cherish lifelong and even after that.In the first case ,we are running for mortality which we are given to us by default..or we can earn immortality.

In this generation, the number of artists are very less than entertainers. Without any justification you can't say that you disagree on his point. These days the outward appearance of the entertainers simply entertains people . But an actual artist should always try to motivate the audience in his or her works .
