Thats a nice catch that you can use the mana from arena of glory for 2 creatures. Its obvious in hindsight, but I haven't realized it before.

Great game! I enjoy the older commanders, especially since there is so much power creep with new commanders that get released. Most of the time, I prefer them.

Kaalia slaps , can be as good as what you choose to drop for free at turn 3 (haste ofc) I've seen Avacins plenty. Sometimes runescar demons (for Avacyn)... but that's not the ceiling. Or was not, rather. Turn 3 Iona on your color makes you reconsider bringing rule 0 discussion to the table. Indestructible can be bounced, exiled, enchanted into an elk (or moon), phased out (oubliette).... You can tolerate 1 blue player playing counters, or 2 going against each other... But "no, you can't play magic" is a level of salt that doctors should warn about. But enough of tall tales of ye old commander terrors. Great video Kai as always. Great use of the new lands ! Totally worth the exert cost

Kaalia was the second commander I ever bought back then but I never played her. Back then I only had the money to make mono or dual color decks, then after some brief experimentation with cheaper 3 color decks I decided that I didn't like fixing those or playing too many 3 color good things - so poor Kaalia never had a chance.

The biggest change I would’ve made in early MTG is making mana bases dirt cheap. They’re the currency to play the game and shouldn’t be a huge hurdle for any deck to overcome.

@@tribalkai Would've made sense yeah, but I've been one of those "I want to make it right the first time" types. A funny misfortunate thing though, I wouldn't make her then because too expensive, and I don't feel like making her now because too strong. But maybe I'll give it a shot since I was building an Extus deck.

Last time I played against Kalia he turn 2 dropped a drannith magistrate and I cloned it. Turns out a Kalia deck doesn’t do well without Kalia

Yeah it gets way slower for sure. Not sure why Kaalia wants Magistrate anyway? I think the only 2 drop creature I have is Grand Abolisher.
