I just realized that I presented the last move incorrectly. You actually have to move the roll stick to the opposite side first and then follow with the yaw stick sorry about that. I will have an update video later about this.

Don't forget to loosen up your springs. It might be a big transition for people coming from the stiff factory setting but you will get used to it quickly and you won't feel those notches when you transition the sticks.

Thanks mate. The reference to straight flying versus skating is golden. That continuous movement makes it easier to perform moves. Most of my crashes have been from thinking about a move rather than reacting. Will definitely practice that. 👍🏼

This video is honestly one of the best freestyle tutorials ive seen. I've been flying for a few months and can split-s, power loop, and hit gaps etc., but I have never had that "flow" feel. After watching this I decided to take your words of wisdom to my fpv sim for evaluation and honestly I use to have almost no flow in my acro movements, spending to much time over correcting, and just 5 mins into practicing your tips and now that's already changed! Good video, my smoothest flight came from flying in a tightish area with trees I was constantly rolling around and through. I couldn't understand why as it was technically the hardest I'd done, but now I see it's because I was constantly rolling to go around one after the other and had no time to recover the centre stick. Realize this is a year old, but the cross cooordianted stick input is one of the most mysterious and useful stick inputs to a quad! In the case of transitioning from a skate left to right and vice versa, I call it hunting, I perfer the sharp edge look that a direct simultaneous roll and yaw stick input gives over the method described!

Great Video very helpful, I noticed something in your comparison section that you did not mention, which adds to your smoothness. You were keeping your throttle basically constant on your smooth flight(right side of screen) and were jerking the throttle on the not so smooth demonstration. I have found that smooth throttle transitions help keep video smooth as well and along the same line as, never return stick to center, I never pull throttle to 0, even while power looping or diviing, this helps transition hard pull outs without oscillations.

I think the first one is solid advise. I am progressing through quads as I am learning fpv. I notice its hard to jump from quad to quad. As well as from a 3s to a 4s, back and forth etc. I was telling myself a few days ago I need to stick with one quad and battery type and master that.

It's my second day with a simulator and some of the things said in this video I got them on my own by just trial and error, I'm still far from having full trajectory control but there are some things I noticed that I have to work on and focus on and they're not easy to learn: 1) gravity is SLOW; messing up with the throttle will really piss you off, you're doing a turn and compensating for the higher pitch because you're learning to tighten the curve and then be right off to skating again, and there you go not lowering the throttle soon enough and shooting up in the air as soon as you adjust your pitch, and it'll feel like forever when you're falling, you can take the chance and practice diving, but it still it feels awful when you're trying to fly level to the ground and you mess up; 2) losing control during turns; you might want to gradually tighten the turn but you either yaw too little or too much, from what I understand yaw never changes the direction of your movement, it just change the way you're pointing and thus your point of reference for the turn, so I turn with roll and pich(like with a plane) and correct with you, point is when you tighten a curve if you yaw too little you roll into the curve and you start moving somewhere you're not looking and have to balance that, or when you yaw too much you roll out of the curve, and that's even worse; 3)sometimes you just can't get the trajectory you want; small corrections are really hard to make, yeah you can get spin around a pole like you want, or pass through a gate, but I'm always risking collision and never doing it fully convinced, I don't crash as much as I think I'm going to but in order to focus on my trajectory I have to turn off my "DON'T CRASH" flying mode in my head, if that makes sense, and it just feels awful to have to feel like you're flying risky when you're making corrections to pass through a gate, and again relating to the first point, falling is so slow, if you punch the throttle too much you can forget about passing through, you'll just pass over it; 4)stop and reverse is really hard; there's this point in the track I'm practicing where I have to pass through a high gate and then fall and turn back and pass under it, whenever I try to reverse I found myself going in the wrong direction and it's pretty much impossible to correct since the second point to pass through is so close, out of the little four hours I got, I managed to try it about 50 times and only got it right 2 out of luck. ***)DON'T USE CAMERA ANGLE COMPENSATION, I don't even know if you could program it into your flight controller but even if you could you shouldn't, I tried it once, it made things "easier" but I feel more in control without it, for the simple reason that if I yaw I don't change direction, at first it might feel practical to do trajectory correction with pure yaw but doing turns feels just wrong.

Yaw first for smooth camera makes a lot of sense, especially for those great freestyle videos. I am curious about the effect it has on speed through the corners. Is it faster when racing to yaw and roll at the same time? My instinct says that when going very fast that almost no yaw is needed to corner, but this would assume that camera angle matches pitch in a racing situation.

Yeah with light powerful quads, they're flying at almost 90deg so minimal yaw is needed.

One thing I've done to get rid of that bump or jerk in the center is to reduce my gimbal spring tension right up to the point where you almost loose that centering ability it has, then I back off slightly from that. As a result I barely notice the center of my stick anymore, it will go back if I release it but the tension at the ends is almost the same as the middle. I've found this really helped my smooth flying as I don't even notice going through the center and now when I try someone elses radio with stock spring tension I can barely fly it. It feels like I'm constantly fighting the sticks. Of course its all what you get used to like you said but in the beginning I was having a lot of trouble with consistency of fine movements, doing the hybrid pinch and lowering my gimbal spring tension improved that dramatically and now I'm always telling people to reduce their tension. I think it made a lot of sense for airplanes but less sense for quads. Just my two cents!

Adam Palmer yeah I've used a gimbal that has no real center too. definitely interesting but I need a home position to feel comfortable. I think most people would.

It's just a regular DX6 gimbal. It still has home position, I just loosened the springs as weak as you can go without loosing centering. My sticks come back to the same number on the receiver tab when I let go (give or take 1-2 points of course). Try it! (no one does lol)

Don't get Aomway V2. The V1 is good but V2 is definitely not. Dom V3 or Dom HD0 are the only goggles I recommend at the moment.

I think this and the 5051 racekraft clone are the only good props they have made. I think having CHEAP props makes you fly better, since props are what you break most often. When your not worried about breaking your props, you dare try going faster, doing new tricks, hitting smaller gaps and so on.

TeeSCee I use the 5048 v1 racerstar, I know several other people who do. £3.50 for 20 pairs and they're well balanced and fly well. Certainly not the best in the world, but more than good enough to practice with, and so cheap I'm not tempted to try and bend them back 20 times.
