カバの歯磨き～そしてお食事の時間（陸上＆水中）天王寺動物園 Brushing the Hippo's Teeth and meal time at Tennoji Zoo

カバ歯磨きと「カバのえさやりタイム」の様子です。天王寺動物園には現在２頭のカバ、テツオくんとティーナちゃんがいます。お食事の前にまず歯磨き。歯磨きが終わるとご褒美にバナナが口の中に置かれました。歯磨きをしてもらっているカバがテツオくんなのかティーナちゃんなのか私にはわかりません。後半はプールを水中から観察できるエリアからもう一頭のカバを撮影。上から落ちてくる草を大きな口で受け取ります。水中を泳ぐカバの表情はにっこり笑っているようにも見えます。プールに泳いでいる魚はナイルティラピアという魚で、カバと共生しています。ティラピアは水中でカバの古くなった皮膚の角質層を食べてくれるそうです。また、カバの糞も食べてくれるので、水質もきれいな状態を保てます。水は巨大なろ過装置でろ過され透明度が高く、水温は常に23度を保っているので冬だと湯気が上がることもあるそうです。
