The Ka-Bar Dog's Head Bowie Utility Knife is similar to the classic USMC full sized Fixed Blade that badasses and regular people know and love. This review covers some of the differences between the two and compares it to some other knives like the Fallkniven S1, an Esee-3, a Vangedal Rover, and a Svord Von Tempsky Bowie. You'll see hard use, light use, cutting, chopping, and get a dose of terrible jokes

I could totally get the impression you were a Marine. You look like you may have ingested several packs of crayons/gallons of paste in your life. Also, I am pretty sure it's a mag-point blade. Clips are for keeping my diapers secure.

“So this is that” Great video. I really like the Ka-Bar. I carried one as a Marine in Desert Storm and I didn’t use it as much as you did in your video. So there’s that. Beautiful knife and well balanced, like it was begging to be thrown. Go figure. Anyhow spot on review. Oh one last thing, if you put a bungee on the lanyard hole you can throw the knife and have it automatically come back to you. Pretty neat!

C. Welch I was issued one in Desert Storm, but I also brought my own. From my limited combat experience there’s no shortage of fine cutlery in the area, both issued and purchased. I’ve seen the same thing at several Boy Scout summer camps. 😂

@@puertoriqueno24 yes and no. But when I was issued one during Desert Storm I ended up “loosing” it. A good friend of mine found it and hopefully still has it and is taking good care of it.

A Ka-bar is the knife that started me down this stony path. As a young man I spent a lot of time in the woods. My constant companions were my dog and my Ka,-bar. I had taken a liking to throwing my knife at various vicious trees that we're constantly vexing me. After many months and what was probably a few thousand throws, two things happened. People started avoiding me in the woods and the tip snapped off my knife. In a desperate effort to fill the hole in my soul it left behind, I engaged in the all consuming hobby that has taken over my existence. The hole shows no evidence of filling, but now people have gotten used to my mania. Your video was, as usual, just great. I also am very impressed with your obvious skill with edged tools. Nobody could be as goofy with them as you pretend to be and still have all his fingers. Comedy, both physical and verbal is not easy but you make it seem so. Happy Festivus Bro!!

I've often thought that, if I were to open a gastropub in downtown Austin, I would name it "The Ka-Bar." No one would get it except for knife bros and Marines, but I think it would still do well. I'd have a featured drink called the "Full Tang," which would be an inside joke, of course. It would be garnished with an ironic twist. Also--you know how all of those douchy hipster places have goofy themes for their "small plates" and "munchies," or whatever, instead of just calling them fucking "appetizers?" Well, we'd have the same themed phrases at the Ka-Bar in downtown Austin. The appetizer section of the menu would be called "Just the tip," and the main entree section would be "the belly," which might be a little confusing, since it's a gastropub. But still. The dessert section would be the "pommel," and...well, you see where I'm going with this. Just spit-ballin' here. Do you know any VCs who might be interested?

I have the USMC version. I really like it. Used to be a fighter, but at 70 I stopped because I'll my ass wipped. So instead of fighting I just carry my Sig to even out things. Back to the knife. If I had a choice to carry only one knife, it would be this one. Yep, the blade will bend if you abuse it, but guess what, You can bend it back to at least get it work. Some of the real elaborate. EXPENSIVE, blades will brake and then you are done. I've seen a lot of these knives, including mine, go through hell and survive it. Ka-Bar has it right. If your blade bends, but you can straighten it back, then you'll still have a working blade. Reminds me of the 1943 Jeeps versus the real new Humvees, or whatever it is called. If you have a knife, a coat hanger, duct tape, you can make that jeep run. If the Humvee breaks you need a computer, and real sophisticated tools to fix it or you re stuck. The Ka-Bar is the Jeep, the real intricate steel blades are the Humvees.

My classic USMC kabar just arrived and after inspecting it I think I might have to buy a more modern version with the synthetic handle and plastic sheath. I simply cant bring myself to beat the shit out of this knife. It's such a thing of classic beauty I think Im going to store it, and get my my kabar action time with a modern version I wont mind abusing. The USMC kabar is like a fusion of Scandi leather washer construction, combined with what was considered "modern" tech in WWII. It really is a beautiful knife.

I have found the best way of getting screws out of the wall is not to use a knife but a sledge hammer and just smash it out. Works well, no damage to my knife, the sledge hammer or my ego. The wall and screw is different story though :) As for batoning, I use dynamite, splits the wood really well and saves a lot of energy in a 'survival' situation.

An advantage of the Dog's head vs. USMC is that you can get your thumb over the top guard onto the spine for more leverage. The USMC guard is too high. A knife that has been around so long has some good things going for it, and few that do not. It is a Classic.

Wow your subs have grown since I was here last, I've been out of the knife scene for awhile. These Kabar leather handled blades actually have a very unique oldschool feel , you can tell they are quality and simple designs. I hear people talk trash about the knives and the leather sheaths but they actually get better over time with good use and IMHO look freaking cool when they do get worked in. I've wanted to get this DogHead edition for a few years now and might do so , I would love to see them make a smaller one that I could wear all the time. They do make the USMC Short but the handle is to skinny, its still a cool looking knife though. Anyways bro be super carful when you try to unwedge those knives by hand, I almost lost my finger awhile back doing the exact same thing. I've done it a million times but I was being careless and that's all it took for a visit to the ER. Good to see you're still making vids man congrats on the growth.....of your channel😏

I love the dogs head and the usmc ka bars . carried one in Vietnam , it was not a "true" ka bar . it was made by camillus, but still as sharp and rugged as the ka bar . the one we had and used had a rubbery coating on the handle to protect the leather handle . the first time I saw a ka bar was the the movie heaven knows MR ALLISON . as soon as I saw that knife I wanted one , I was about 12 at the time . I didn't get one until a was 21 in Vietnam . It sure came in handy at times cutting small trees and brush to clear landing zones . the first deer Took , I cleared it with my " KA-BAR ". I CARRIED MOST ONE THE TIME WHEN HUNTING . SECOND LINE OF DEFENSIVE AGAINST BEARS .
