"A.B.C. Wide World Of Entertainment" also did a Howard Cosell roast in '73. Milton Berle once babysat Steve Allen when he was a child.

Milton had said that Steve's mother, Belle Montrose, was the funniest woman in Vaudeville. She and husband (Steve's father) Billy Allen did a routine where Billy played straightman. Steve had his mother on several times on his late night and prime time shows.

for this to be 1970, he would have had to start in TV in 1945. But there was no TV in 1945. If it was 1975, he would have started in 1950, which sounds about like when he started with the Tonight Show. Milton mentioned Watergate being in progress, which would be 1974. Changing the subject, this has the ambiance of the Hollywood Palace, which is a show I loved growing up.

He started with the Tonight Show in 1953 (only in New York City as a local night night talk show) and 6/24/54 for the entire NBC Television Network.
