Gordie Howe. Played for the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL 1946-1971, then played for the New England/Hartford Whalers (now the Carolina Hurricanes) in the WHA/NHL 1973-1980. Scored 801 goals in the NHL, 174 goals in the WHA. Oldest player to ever play in the NHL at 52 years, 11 days old. Most NHL regular season games played: 1,767. Most NHL seasons played: 26 (tied with Chris Chelios). Most NHL and WHA seasons played: 32. Most consecutive NHL 20-goal seasons: 22 (1949-1971). Howe is often considered the most complete player to ever play the game and one of the greatest of all time. At his retirement, his 801 goals, 1049 assists, and 1850 total points were all NHL records that stood until they were broken by Wayne Gretzky, who himself has been a major champion of Howe's legacy. A 23-time NHL All-Star, he still holds the NHL records for most games and seasons played. In 2017, Howe was named one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players". WHA = World Hockey Association (second hockey major league that competed against the NHL 1972-1979. The WHA ceased operations after the 1978-79 season, and four teams joined the NHL for the 1979-80 season: the Edmonton Oilers, New England Whalers (now the Carolina Hurricanes), Quebec Nordiques (now the Colorado Avalanche), and Winnipeg Jets (now the Arizona Coyotes).

When I was a kid, we had two leagues in all four of our major sports... National League & American League in baseball (still the case), NFL & AFL in football (leagues merged in 1970 with the 10 AFL team joining the NFL), the NBA & ABA in basketball (leagues merged in 1976 with the Nets, Pacers, Nuggets & Spurs joining the NBA), and the NHL & WHA in ice hockey.

The Sedin Twins will melt your goddamn brain. I've had the privilege of seeing them live many times. Every time they would leave you in stunned amazement at what you'd just seen. Jaromir Jagr is still playing for his hometown team (that he owns) in the Czech Republic at the age of 49! The great Gordie Howe, Wayne Gretzky's childhood hero, played pro hockey until he was 52. Check him out as well.

Jagr used to make sure he completed 1,000 squats/day as a young player. His hips and leg-strength were insane, plus he was already an imposing physical player, standing at 6'3" and 225 lbs. But even with all that power and speed he also had soft-hands to be able to dangle the NHL's best defenders and goalies. I really don't think Jagr gets enough shine for what he accomplished in the NHL. He is 2nd all-time in career points earned, but people also forget that he spent 3 seasons playing professional hockey back in Russia and the Czech Republic...and I'm not talking about now when he's is 50 years old. I'm talking about in the middle of his career from 2008-2011. Now, by 2008 Jagr was no longer in his "prime," but he was still averaging almost a point/game. So honestly, his total points, had he stayed in the NHL for those years, would be inflated by at least 150, and that's at the lower end. If he had played all 82 games in each of those 3 seasons and put up say 65-70 points per season, then that's about 200 more points, taking him over the 2,000 total points benchmark, as the only other player to accomplish this feat besides the Great One.

As a Sens fan, I concur - but Boston fans should thank the Ottawa skating staff. Before Zdeno got to Ottawa, he could hardly skate. Ottawa and Florida had two of the best skating technique centers in North America at the time and Chara was there all the time. Once he learned how to skate and use his long strides, he was incredible. Ottawa should have never let him go over Wade Redden.

@andersflorek96953 жыл бұрын
Adding in to that a little bit it is true that a lot of hockey players upper bodies are weak. For example, Patrick Kane couldn’t do one pull up at his hawks rookie camp but he is possibly the best American player ever. On the other hand hockey players have some of if not the strongest upper legs(quads, hamstrings and glutes) of any sport. A lot of them have to get custom pants to even fit in them😂 at least at the pro level
@Whitesquall1233 жыл бұрын
You don't need a big strong chest to play hockey though - that's definitely more of a football (american) skill. Hockey players (and most athletes for that matter) really need strong legs and core.

My team had a freak of nature, no matter how out of breath or exhausted he was you could never tell when hr was on the ice. He would just come off the ice from a shift gasping for air and sweating buckets, the coach would look at him ask him if he wanted to hop on the ice again right away and he would say yes. Then do it again. All. Game. Long. He lead us to winning back to back to back playoffs 3 seasons in a row. And that was how i ended my hockey career before i was considered too old to make it pro.

The first game I ever attended was the 1992 stanley cup finals game between my blackhawks and Jagr's penguins... And I still miss Big Buff on the Hawks, he was a monster and we probably wouldn't have won the cup if it wasn't for him. There is no answer for him in front of the net. Just a solid mass of a man that couldn't be moved. Check out emergency goalies... yesterday was the 3 year anniversary of probably the best performance we'll ever see by one. The sedin sisters wouldn't have played together if it wasn't for the hawks doing Vancouver a favor and trading their pick so those 2 could play together.
