He forgot to mention that due to the fact that Antelope Canyon is sacred to the Navajo people, you need to book a guided tour to go. You can’t just show up
@lizzaangelis33089 ай бұрын
I know that which is why we decided that for our trip to a slot canyon we shall not go as the requirements for the group are more demanding than what my traveling companion can do even though it has an otherwise acceptable skill level.

@@gg8264 There is a daily limit of visitors at both locations. You have to plan it advance or you won't get to see it, and during busy season, you have to book well in advance. It's good information for people that are travelling long distances to see these things.

@randalmayeux88809 ай бұрын
Just go to Glen Rose, the nearest town. I've been there numerous times and it's a cool place. Best to go during the summer, when the water is low. There are a number of different kinds of tracks. I especially like the T-REX, three toed tracks, some are from very young dinosaurs, apparently, since they are quite small. Other Brontosaurus type tracks just look like big round holes. It's also fun to watch the goats walking around on near vertical cliffs. I don't know how they do it!
@danajohnson47579 ай бұрын
Should have gone this past summer, 2023. We had a drought and many tracks were exposed and easier to view.

That mountain in the background of that one shot of White Sands is part of Guadeloupe Mountains National Park. This mountain harbors a gorge called McKittrick Canyon, which, in contrast to its desert surroundings, contains a maple forest, sporting vivid colors in the fall, almost as vivid as the ones shown in the Portland Japanese Garden.

I spent 5 years near the White Sands National Park in Alamagordo New Mexico. My dad worked at the Air Force base there. On the weekends we would grill out and spend time on the sand. One of my favorite memories is "sledding" down the white sand dunes in a refrigerator box. The sand just glistens there like diamonds. It is a beautiful place especially and sunset.

Arizona native here. Southern Utah Northern Arizona are absolutely beautiful areas, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Escalante, but Antelope is not to be missed. Plan, read the website, make sure you have reservations they sell out quickly. Visiting any of the spectacular Parks in or near the Navajo/Hopi Reservations be respectful of the lives, history and culture. That can be said for any of the Reservations in this country and there are many. Respect.

I lived in Hobbs New Mexico when I was 10-13 back in the early 1960s. White Sands was a bit far for a day trip but we went several times. The park is part of a huge missile range and is closed sometimes when the government is testing rockets. The place where they tested the first atomic bomb is there as well --- the Trinity Bomb Site -- and the government allows escorted convoys of tourists in a couple times a year. I went with my dad and back then you could still pick up pieces of green radioactive glass formed when the blast melted the sand. I still have a little box of them somewhere.

Kabir, side note--for free--where I live (Rockford, IL), there's also a Japanese garden, and it's ranked #2 in the US. Castello di Amarosa There are so many jawdropping locations on the Navajo Res., including Canyon de Chelly (d'SHAY), Monument Valley, Window Rock, etc. Re. Castello di Amarosa, if it were 'castillo de', it would be Spanish, but I wasn't really certain which Romance language this is from. So, I went to google translate, and confirmed that it's in Italian, and is thus pronounced cah-STELL-oh dee ah-ma-ROSE-uh, rather than cah-STEE-yo day ah-ma-ROW-sah. Little known and less important, I know.
