People who say Portland is sketchy have either: A. Never been to Portland B. Never been to an actual big city. Portland has its problems for sure, but I feel MUCH safer there than I do in Dallas, Tx, Los Angeles, CA or Washington DC. It is a vibrant, weird, fun city. You should definitely visit. If you can handle London, you can easily handle Portland.

Or (c) Have been listening to some weird nonsensical propaganda from somewhere or another. Back in 2020, some guy on Twitter claimed that the specific area of Portland where I live had been "burned to the ground." And I mean, he specified the *blocks* he was talking about, one of which was the block on which I live. But we didn't even have any *protests* in my neighborhood, far less anything burning anywhere! And I hear weird stuff like that all the time, from people who claim it was "on the news" or "on the radio" -- just outright falsehoods that have absolutely no basis in reality. I don't know where all that nonsense is coming from, but it can get pretty surreal at times.

Alot of people that say horrible things about Portland are politically conservative people that hate the city because historically it has been a very liberal place. They blow every problem it has way out of proportion. Generally, the city is an usually safe, picturesque and prosperous place as large American cities go. Just goes to show you politics affect everything in America.

Of all the states I've lived in, (there are many), Oregon is by far my number one.. I've made it my home for the past 37 years... I'm bummed that the video didn't mention our high desert areas, along with our beautiful coast and gorgeous forests and mountains. As for Portland, I personally love that city... It has its issues, like any other big city, but it's fun and weird and quite lovely. I also lived in Colorado in my teens and it's another stunningly beautiful state.

I live in Naples, Maine on a lake in a tourist town. The boat fish, ski ice, fish, hike, camp eat out, go listen to music and other touristy type things. You’re always welcome to stay at my house. If you decide to come to Maine, I’ll take you out in the boat if you come during summer time. So take a look at the towns website and you’ll see it just how beautiful it is here. I’m also just 30 miles west of Portland.

Just a heads about California s redwoods. The giant redwoods are along the coast and can be found near San Francisco in abundance across the Golden Gate Bridge in Muir Woods and all the way in the coastal north. The Sequoia trees are inland around Yosemite. They are bigger and if my old memory remembers correctly they are older. General Sherman is the most impressive of all.

I've been to the Grand Prismatic Spring at Yellowstone. Photographs really don't do the colors justice-- you have to see it with your own eyes. If you go, though, you should be aware that you'll be observing from a safe distance. These aren't the sort of hot springs people can submerge themselves in and relax-- as a result of the geothermal activity, the water is 160 °F (70 °C), hot enough to cause serious and potentially life-threatening burns. There are also some pools and underground pockets of superheated acidic water in the park, so there are areas of the park where you are advised to stick to the fabricated boardwalks rather than walking directly on the earth. This is because the ground above the pockets can look deceptively safe to walk on all the way up until it collapses, and the boiling acidic water inside them is apparently strong enough to melt hiking boots within a matter of minutes. There have sadly been several deaths over the years as the result of people falling into boiling water from stepping somewhere they shouldn't have.

Yellowstone Park is mostly in Wyoming, with north and northwest portions on Montana and southwest in Idaho. IIRC its the oldest national.parkmin the world, and until some of the newer ones were established in Alaska was the largest. Its area is over 2mil acres (just shy if 9k sq km). I grew up near ther, clise enough that in summer, Sunday picnics were common. Another gorgeous national.park, entirely in Montana but sharing with a sister oark in Canada, is Glacier. Its Canadian conjoined twin is Waterton, and they are often listed as a single park: Glacier-Waterton International Peace Park.

Kabir, at 1:18, before he even got into the list, he showed the yellow face next to a rock formation. This is one of 2 "mittens" located in Monument Valley on the Navajo Reservation, which also has Canyon de Chelly (pronounced 'de SHAY'), Rainbow Bridge, and Window Rock. That res. is stunning! When he was on the subject of Montana, he inexplicably neglected to mention the beautiful Glacier N.P., which is right across the border from Canada's portion of the reserved land, and named Waterton Lakes N.P. Yellowstone is a little bigger than the French island of Corsica. In addition to what was mentioned in Michigan, Isle Royale N.P. should have been there. It's very unique in that it's a 3-hour ferry ride from the tip of the little peninsula midway across the north coastline, and it has no roads, either--same as Mackinac (MACK-uh-naw) Island. I have no idea why, just a few years ago, people started mispronouncing Zion N.P. as ZYE-ahn). It's ZYE-un--same as the mountain in Jerusalem. In fact, that's what it was named after. Although there may be sequoias in Yosemite, the place to see them is in (drum roll) Sequoia N.P. By the way, since he didn't mention it, CA has 9 national parks--the most of any state, with Alaska coming in at #2 with 8 of them.

Both Portland and Seattle are very safe cities. The Pacific NW and New England are probably the safest regions in America. The Pacific NW cities do have a homeless problem though but Seattle and Portland's bad areas look like paradise when compared to the east coast. New England has some sketchier areas, particularly certain cities in Massachusetts and Connecticut, but states like Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine have minimal crime anywhere and are beautiful (MA and CT are also beautiful so not knocking them).

In 1969 and 1970 we lived in Colorado Springs, and we did find it beautiful. Besides Garden of the Gods, there were several other beautiful sights. We loved going through the Black Forest, driving up to Pike's Peak, and seeing the lights at night of the ski resorts. We live in Utah now, and it's so diverse in its landscapes. The Great Salt Lake is drying up, but there are so many other beautiful sights. Bryce Canyon is gorgeous, and canyons just outside of the cities along the Wasatch Front and Back are likewise gorgeous. Yesterday I went for a drive in Hobble Creek Canyon, and it is stunning. I've lived in 10 states, and found beauty in all of them, even Oklahoma. Some of the states we traveled through are also beautiful.

The thing to remember when visiting the wild places in the US is that they are wild. It's really necessary to know which seasons to travel to various places & what the wildlife is capable of. And DO NOT interact with the wildlife! Plus another thing to remember is that the weather can change so quickly in the wild spaces, so always have a good weather app. Make an itinerary, let responsible people know what that itenerary is, AND stick with it. And one of the most important things to remember (which can't be stressed enought), be pleasant, thoughtful , & courteous not just to the areas that are visited but also to the local humans. I've been to a fair amount of states here, & how local people are treated can make a visit even better.

You’re going to Sequoia national forest? It is nowhere near San Francisco or Los Angeles (unless you’re actually going to the Redwood forest which is near San Francisco). I'm from Illinois, raised in California, Lived in Texas (Houston & San Marcos) and have driven to Vancouver From Los Angeles. Seen most of the East Coast. And drove from New Jersey to Houston. If You visit The U.S. Come to California, I believe California blows away any state when it comes to diversity in almost every way. Los Angeles County alone- Beautiful Beaches, Coastal Mountains, Pine Forest, Desert, Multiple Valleys with different climates, And an actual freaking island!!!- is more diverse than most countries. Everyone tries to portray California like it's all skid row... Yes there are problems, but mile for mile I would put California against any COUNTRY let alone any state. Texas weather is absolutely horrible & everything sticks to your body. Live there for years not one single day of dry weather!!! Whereas in Los Angeles, I woke up earlier in the year for about 100 days straight to perfect weather!!!! About (70-83 degrees/ 21- 29 Celsius) low humidity. Trigger Warning: NOT EVERTHING in Texas is bigger!!! Not a brag or a put down, just plain facts!!! Sequoia National Park contains the largest living tree. Its trunk is (102 feet/ 31meters) in circumference, Redwood Redwood State & National Park contains Tallest tree in the world (380ft/115Meters), Inyo National forest contains The Oldest Tree in the World at 4'855 years old, Yosemite National Parks contains North America's Tallest Waterfalls, dropping (4,425 Feet/739 Meters), and El Capitan - at more than (3,000 ft/914 meters high and (1 mile/1.6 kilometers) wide is the tallest exposed vertical face of granite on Earth, Death Valley is The hottest place on Earth (130 Fahrenheit/54 Celsius) and Lowest point in the US at ( 282 feet/ 85 meters) below Sea level. And only (107 miles/ 172 kilometers) away to the West is Mount Whitney (14,505 feet/4,421 meters) the highest point in the contiguous U.S. States. California contains the Most National Parks (9), California contains The Most State Parks (280), California contains the most National Monuments - Lowly tie with Arizona - at (18). Hollywood Bowl is the world’s largest outdoor amphitheater..... You like fishing?????? The diversity of California's Blue Ribbon Waters- Hot Creek, Hat Creek, Walker, Truckee, Yuba, Pit, Fall, McCloud, Upper Sacramento, Lower Sacramento, and Trinity Rivers- Is arguably unmatched in the US, if not The World. The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta has (1,100 miles/1,770 Kilometers) of rivers and contains White Sturgeon - Largest Freshwater Fish in North America - (Average Size: 79 Inches/200cm), The San Francisco Bay Watershed covers more than (75,000 square miles/194,000 square kilometers) including the largest estuary on The West Coast of North and South America. Lake Tahoe is The largest alpine lake in North America. Most California Rivers are very clear to crystal clear. California Coast is (840 miles/1351 kilometers) of some of the most beautiful beaches and rugged coastline in the world including Giant Wave Surf Spot MAVERICKS!!!! AND Prismatic pools in North-Eastern California. History, Museums, Points of Interest: California Mission's, Hearst Castle, LA Arboretum, Descanso Garden, Getty Museum, Getty Villa, Norton Simon, The Broad, La Brea Tar Pits, The Exploratorium in San Francisco (Best Museum EVER!!!! All hands on displays), Winchester Mystery House, State Railroad Museum, Wells Fargo Museum, Indian Grinding Rock State Park, Black Chasm Cavern National Landmark, Moaning Cavern, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Mulholland Scenic Highway, Musical Highway, Malibu, Point Dume State Beach, Santa Barbara, Santa Catalina Island (Los Angeles County), Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach Skate Park, Our New Arts District in Downtown LA, Griffith Park & Observatory, Mount Wilson Observatory, Alcatraz, Mount Shasta, Western terminus of Route 66, PCH, Prismatic Pools & Hot Springs. To name a few. Theme Parks: Disneyland, Disney California Adventure, Six Flags Magic Mountain (Most roller coasters in the world- BTW), Universal Studios Hollywood, Legoland, Sea World, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Knott's Berry Farm, Pacific Park @ Santa Monica Pier, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, California's Great Adventure, San Diego Zoo Safari Park (These are just the Major One's) Major Sports: Baseball- LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angels, San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants. American Football: LA Rams, LA Chargers, San Francisco 49ers. Basketball: Golden State Warriors, LA Clippers, LA Lakers, Sacramento Kings. Horse Racing: Del Mar by the Sea, Santa Anita.

When I used to go there, I shopped in local grocery stores where the people who live there shop so it was much more affordable. I also rented a friend's condo so that was much cheaper as well. The fire was on Maui in the capital city of Lahaina, the rest of the island was not damaged. There are other islands you could visit as well, just read up on them so you find one that offers you what you want because some are really laid back and more for relaxing with not a lot of partying going on. I like Maui because it has a good mix of everything. I knew California would be #1. I was born there and lived there most of my life and it is a gorgeous state.

My dad has been all around the world and was born and raised in the Michigan. He moved to Washington state and stayed here until he died because he said it is the most diverse and beautiful place on earth. I had to give a huge thumbs down here. We have oceans that keep us much warmer than other states bordering Canada. We have desserts and canyons in the East. We have rain forests on the peninsula. We have the rain shadow on the Western side that is arid and gets less rainfall than Los Angeles. If you want heat, go to Hanford where it reaches 120°F. The west is evergreen and wetter. We have so many lakes, they're hard to count. We have two different mountain ranges surrounding many of us, so the view rivals the Alps in many parts. We have numerous waterfalls. We have mountain lions, wolves, deer species up to Moose, buffalo, racoons, several species of reptiles, small mammals and birds. Mount Hood looks like a joke next to Mount Rainier. I live a walk away from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge which is world famous for having the most beautiful diving experience in the waters beneath it. Our bright orange sea pens, orca, dolfins, seals, and the world's largest octopuses are a few reasons. Oh yeah, we have hot springs aplenty.I really shouldn't say these things because Washintonians don't want more people to move here. It's the best kept secret. The only place that I would never recommend is the one place everyone thinks of when they think of our state, which is Seattle. Although we boast one of the most beautiful skylines in the world, the homeless population, drug use, and ridiculously high cost of living has made it like a third world country, containing the super rich and abject poor within the same region. But that's one corrupt city. It's on par with Portland which is in Oregon, that was mentioned. I'd argue that Portland is even worse. I've been there plenty of times because of extended family. BTW, those numerous aunts, uncles and cousins left Portland to settle in Seattle.

@25:19 Most people don't know about the beauty of Minnesota, especially the northeastern part of the state known as the arrowhead. It hugs the north shore of Lake Superior and there are all kinds of waterfalls up & down the shoreline! The colors in autumn all over the state are spectacular! All the lakes in the state are great for all watersports, including ice fishing & snowmobiling in winter. Most people are scared of the cold & snow so it never ranks high on lists.

I grew up on the coast of Maine, went away for a while and am back to stay. The culture here is very commmunity focused especially in rural areas where ive spent most of my life. People are fiercely independent. There are things to do year round for tourists who enjoy nature. Summer is the time "the people from away" are most likely to visit. However in the fall the leaf peepers can be seen in droves, and winter sports are abundant. And we can't forget the public suppers, contra dancing, music gatherings, lectures, art fairs and the many festivals. There are a lot of "tourist traps" but the most peaceful way to see the state is to get in your car and go to the less populated areas. For instance, the further east along the coast the more scenic and authentic it is. Moosehead lake area in western Maine where the lumberjacks and moose meet is gorgeous. Western Maine has mountains. There are lakes, rivers, and ponds everywhere. We even have a fjord. It's called the pine tree states for a reason...woods woods and more woods. And yes the lobster is delicious. I come from a long line of lobstermen and deep sea fishermen from the Knox County area. Which brings to mind the islands, over 4,600 on the coast alone. Some you can access by ferry or car but most you have to private boat to or even fly. If I were visiting Maine for the first time I'd spend the bulk of the time on the coast from Damariscotta north and do my best to see Port Clyde where Forest Gump visited the lighthouse, Deer Isle, Winter Harbor, then northwest to Greenville to explore for moose. I hope you come this way. I thoroughly enjoy your channel.

Portland is my Beloved HomeTown, back in the day it was a Very Awesome place, it was included in numerous positive top ten lists for decades, often at the top spot. However in the mid 90's a carpetbagging New Yorker was elected mayor and she invited people from out of state, mainly California, to move there to become the internet business utopia, which as you may not know the Dot Com "Boom" became the Dot Com bust. However so many moved up to the Portland area, and western Oregon, that they completely changed the political and cultural demographics, in a very negative way. What we see in the news these days is the end result of what happened.

Hi Kabir! Congratulations to me. I got 9 out of 10! Also picked the #1 state of California. You can visit 3 of these states at once. Colorado, Utah, and Arizona as they share a common border, along with New Mexico, which, by the way, has some great scenery too. The place is called 4 corners. It's the only place in the county where 4 states meet. You can stand on 1 foot and be in all 4 states at once! While it's nothing as dramatic as the mountains, Louisiana has some really cool scenery. You can rent a small rowboat and paddle through cypress swamps hung with Spanish moss and palmettos growing around the banks, and see some antebellum mansions along the rivers. It's best to go in autumn or early spring, before it gets too hot and the mosquitoes aren't out.

Maine will probably remind you a bit of England . . . It's one of the 13 colonies....settled by Britian . . well actually back then it was part of Massachusetts - but regardless - lots will remind you of England I'm sure . . .especially some of the names of their cities....ie: Wells, Kittery, Biddeford, Windham, Kennebunk, Gorham . . . Mind you I'm from Ohio . . so this is tough talking about good things in that State up North (Michigan our rivals in football especially)...BUT, Mackinac Island is beautiful and there's the Grand Hotel where the movie "Somewhere in Time" was filmed...a classic movie with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour and Chrisopher Plummer... Check out the Grand Hotel on line! (If I go to Michigan, I will NOT go to Ann Arbor!....LOL) I'm going to bet on the bear situation - they probably left food out - then reacted incorrectly and bear attacked . . . very sad --- but HIGHLY unusual!! Oregon is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL - Multnomah Falls is my favorite!! There's a restaurant at the foot of it and my I a picture of my kids on the bridge...it was my son's favorite spot..he loved lighthouses and falls! (He passed away in 2000 - 21yo)...so memorable falls and it is a must see if you are there! All of Oregon is amazing! The Portland Zoo is awesome! (All big cities have areas you probably shouldn't go to at night etc.) Just FYI -- Northern California is beautiful . . and very southern is very nice - middle is okay . . that's LA...big cities etc.. Northern California which then becomes Oregon - lol - has beautiful redwoods, coastlines. absolutely gorgeous! San Francisco is awesome, Wine country is beautiful ! If you ever go to California, sure check out LA/Hollywood, Disneyland etc., BUT do not miss Northern California! The Redwoods take your breath away! I'm very fortunate that my parent's loved to travel and though I grew up in Ohio - every summer we went on a 3 week vacation, 80% of the time across country to visit historic sites (my Mom was a school teacher)...then come home the northern route - or we would go to Florida - St. Augustine (Oldest city in the US) and all the tourist areas there (Disney World wasn't there when I was a kid)...so I have been every state, except the New England States and Alaska and Hawaii - and in a year my sister and I are going to go by Amtrak train (getting a 1st class ticket) and take it all in! So I will have been to every state of the lower 48! My bucket list includes an Alaskan cruise!! I would love to see Alaska! Maybe some day..... Glad you're getting to the US!! Assume you are flying from New York to California . . .unless you plan on being here for about a month or so!!

The grizzly attack happened in grizzly country which is in the Rockies from Wyoming up to Canada. We hiked in Glacier, Banff and other areas, always carried bear spray, but I would never go tent camping. There is no protection from a hungry grizzly-a very aggressive bear. And many trails have signs that at least 4 people hike together (safer in a large group). I much prefer to hike in other places where you only encounter black bears, although mountain lions in California are scary.

Property crime is a big problem in Portland, because of the crazy cost of living. The increases in violent crime are almost exclusively involved with drug crimes. So, unless you're getting into heroin or fentanyl or meth, the violent crime rate here is otherwise below the national average. But if you have a nice car, or leave valuables visible, or park in an unsecured parking garage, or in an affluent area, your car will be broken into. Again, it's mostly the problem homeless drug users (about 10% of the homeless population) who are looking for easy smash and grab scores, bike theft, catalytic converters, older cars, unattended suitcases or bags. With all of the camping on the streets, having a car broken into or a bike stolen gives tourists a really poor impression. But except for Old Town, I would walk anywhere in Portland at any time of the day or night. I live in the University District, traditionally a higher crime area in Portland. I see young women out jogging alone at all hours, and there's never any real problems. Once in awhile somebody gets into trouble in Downtown or Old Town or the Pearl (District), but that's not much of the city, just small, higher profile, affluent, touristy, central areas. Most people in Portland are poorer, and the affluent areas are widely seen as taking advantage and ruining the city with class segregation and gentrification and AirB&B rentals driving up housing prices. And many of these are also the central areas, where government services are most accessible, and so homeless people tend to stay nearby causing class and culture clashes. But the reality is far safer than the popular image. With all the poverty and homelessness, failing tourism has still not yet woken up the city government to the severity of popular disenfranchisement. There used to be a tourism slogan here, "Visit Oregon! (but don't stay)" and we still feel that way largely, despite how Portlandia popularized a city that never wanted popularity, except for the gentry.
