Kabir, not every industry, corporation, or medium sized business is working remotely, and i think businesses have had enough of not having their employees working in the office. Can't they just build more homes? Whose paying for them, who can afford the property taxes and/or the cost of living. We need to utilize all forms of energy, and coal is cleaner than it used to be. Germany and others are rebuilding coal fired power plants. The gold medal goes to taxes. Most of these states have taxes that could choke a hippo. The Silver goes to the cost of living, and the bronze is crime. I left New Jersey because of taxes cost of living and the weather. I love snow, but I got tired of shoveling it.

I have lived in Manhattan NYC for nearly 40 years. To live here without a six figure income, you need to have a plan. Nearly a quarter of NYC rental properties are rent stabilized, which means that the rent can only be increased by a limited amount with each lease renewal. After 19 two year lease renewals, my rent is now nearly triple what it was in 1985, but it is still very affordable by today's standards. It's a common mistake to think that everything in NYC is outrageously expensive, but that simply isn't true. About one in six NYC residents live below the federal poverty line, and almost all are housed in one way or another.

As someone who was born, raised and lived my entire life in the Los Angeles area of California I can tell you a little bit about the entertainment industry. I have to state that I have never once worked in the entertainment industry so my observations are based on the many different people who had moved into my neighborhood hoping to make it in the entertainment industry. For every one of them I suggest that they should be willing to take any part that is offered to them even if it is a non speaking part that lasts only one or two seconds in the finished production. I have lost count of how many times a would be celebrity told me that they would not accept any part if it was not a starring or costarring role. Since their parents back home was paying for most of their living expenses they did not need to worry about rent, utilities, food, transportation, other expenses etc. Before they come to Los Angeles however their parents usually make an arrangement with them that the parents would cover all of their expenses for one year exactly 12 months. After that time period had expired they would have to pay for their own expenses if they wanted to stay out here. Some of them do occasionally stay out here and I would see them around perhaps working as a dishwasher in a restaurant or a cashier in the supermarket. They still have dreams of being in the entertainment industry and would negotiate with their boss and other employees to have time off to go on some auditions. Other people leave Los Angeles and return back home or go somewhere else. In over 30+ years I have only seen one person that I knew have any type of success in the entertainment industry. This was someone who followed the advice I gave and his first role a non talking walk on role. He had a few more similar type parts on other movies and television shows when his life changed completely. I don’t even know what was the name of the movie but he had been hired to do another small non talking role in a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Now he looked so much like Leonardo that he could have been his identical twin brother. When they finished filming the movie he was offered a job as Leonardo DiCaprio’s body double. He soon moved out of the neighborhood after getting that position and I don’t know what he is doing now. I forgot how long ago this happened but I remember that another neighbor who knew him died of natural causes almost 15 years ago so maybe it was about 20 years ago. 🤔

I used to live in LA and had to get out. It wasn't just the insane living costs, it's the out of control homeless problem, it's half the state burning down every year, the pollution, it's the total lack of any real public be transportation in such a massively spread out city, and the list goes on. Also "I went to the beach in November and there was plenty of parking" is so hilariously British to say 😂

@@jamesm654 I'm glad it works for you. But LA is ranked the 10th highest cost of living index in the US. Considering how huge the area is I'm sure it also depends on where you live within the city. If you live central it's probably better. I lived in MDR and II had friends who also lived in LA I wouldn't see for months because it was a four hour round trip. I also have not driven in a long time (since 2009).

@@jamesm654 You say no different, yet California has the highest homeless rate. Also, California has one of the highest cost of living index. So, it is illogical to say it is no different than anywhere else. Sure, the medium income in California for a family of 4 is around $105k but that doesn't commensurate the higher-than-average cost of a single-family home or apartment rental.

Illinois here. Yes, the weather can be bad. Really cold winters (at least here in northern Illinois) and hot humid summers. The main reasons people leave, in my opinion, are high taxes and corruption. Chicago is called “The Windy City” for a few reasons. Yes, it can be windy as the wind blowing off of Lake Michigan or from the flat surrounding topography gets channeled through the skyscrapers. It also has to do old Chicago politics. With the politicians being long winded or according to some full of hot air.

Howdy from Texas. Bigfoot apparently migrated to East Texas. I moved here to East Texas seven years ago from central Texas where I grew up. Once here I was puzzled when I heard so many people around here talking nonchalantly about Bigfoot. At first I just assumed that it was some kind of inside joke shared between the locals. But I later learned that there folks were quite serious about Bigfoot here. There are two native American Tribes here in the local area and they are the main ones who absolutely believe that Bigfoot is a real creature and not only real but part of their culture as well. They actually leave food out for Bigfoot to stay in their good graces. And if you ask any of them about Bigfoot. Almost every single one of them have a least on personal story about their interactions with the creatures. I'm not a believer myself. Common sense just tells me that if they were actually real. We'd know about it either by actually seeing them at least as often as I've seen wild Bobcats and mountain lions. ( Which is around three different times each over 61 years of living in Texas. They are very wery of humans and are seldom seen. ) Or one would have been shot by a hunter, hit by a car or photographed on the millions of trail camera set up in the deep woods of East Texas by hunters. There's just way too many possibilities that something that Big, that unusual, wouldn't have been found dead, injured, or at least photographed in all these many years.

It's been happening for a long time and covid just gave it a huge boost. A lot of people want to blame those in power, but the fact is that it's not their fault (mostly). It's not suddenly going to change by electing someone new. It takes time to adjust and for the effects of legislation to take hold and be felt. This guys videos are always a bit sus to me. My opinion... I was born, raised and still here in CA (60+ years), westside of Los Angeles. Southern CA has the best weather, except the higher attitudes with snow which pleases the skiers. There are reasons and a combination of reasons the natives are leaving. First is the State and City (also National, those guys affect our nation) levels. Unfortunately, some are kept being voted in and get too comfortable, some corrupted and some favoritism on who gets contracts with kickbacks. Most of our elected officials in the populated cities (L.A., San Fran. and along the coast) rule CA by the number of votes. Our elected politicians set the standard and the type of State we become. They make the rules, set the taxes, how to enforce laws, getting away with basic studies in school and time and young minds are wasted by the teacher's biases, activism, and passing them when they cannot read, write, get by for their adult lives, especially the ones who do not know the language, do not go to college, or not have parents or mentors to help guide them. The laws that are on the ballot, the politicians are too afraid to spell out both sides of a bill, the pros and cons, costs and how it will affect the long term so citizens can have the information to make the proper vote and willing to live with it. The media also are a bit bias especially nationwide. Our businesses that leave due to taxes, regulations, environmental studies and delays, higher wages/benefits, no control or openly speaking who to hire and not get sued, and travel to get to work. Then is the crime, and the last few years people openly go into stores and take, damage property. Who ends up paying to cover the stores loses, the consumer. After the Covid lock-down, some stores had to close, but a lot of stores closed because of the crime, thief, danger to their employees and customers. The drug and homeless mess that block walkways that people will shop elsewhere. Residential crimes, and our laxed law and punishment. As for housing, yes to buy and/or rent is very high, especially with having open land/yards. Supply and demand set the price. One thing is location, public schools, crime and services with the property taxes you will be paying for that home. In L.A., there are certain neighborhoods that are affordable, but it i the crime/gun/gang violence a parent would not want their children to grow up with and probably the public school is not suitable to get their education. If we can change the crime and violence in those areas, along with pride in homeownership, socialize with your neighbors will make it a nice and comfortable community to live in. Unfortunately, turning these areas into better living situations, the cost of buying a home or renting will start to rise. This year, wages at certain eateries was raised to $20 an hour. If an employer is made to provide the higher wage, benefits, vacation, sick time, and now wages, most likely the consumer will have to bear the expense. Long term of this living wage of $20 an hour, the consumer level will drop because the affordability for themselves and more if they have a family. Then these employees getting their $20 an hour, less sales, less need for excess employees, and many food franchises just completely closed down and no one there has any job. Those fast-food minimum wage jobs in my day were for parttime teens in school, college student to help pay their schooling, retirees to supplement their income, or at least a person who lives low/free rent with family and maybe takes public transportation. Owning a car, insurance, maintenance, license, tax, gasoline is expensive. In the old days, some worked these minimum wage jobs for them wanting to have a used car or buying one. It was not meant for adults who have one or more children. It is too costly to new build homes even if there is some open space on the westside. Besides the labor and materials, all the city puts you through with permits, inspections, code, each take time (to the one representing your plans to the city and other commissions for approval), delays, new architect drawings), studies on impact with the air, traffic and some business will have to put in things the city itself should do to let your plans start. It is sort of blackmail. So in the end, i all Californians can work on a common goal of getting rid of crime and violence, respect and help our police and others who keep us safe and get us out of trouble, our law makers make a plan on how to fix a problem, how to avoid it in the future then continuing throwing taxpayer's money at it and problem spreads or become a way of life like when things started to shift beginning in the 1960's, make it feasible for business wanting to be in CA. California has a lot of open land, maybe we need to invest in bring the utilities and homes, businesses there for more affordability to own or rent and a nice and safe place to raise your children. Those leaving CA, do not take your politics to your new city/State. It is the locals who vote to make it business friendly and provide jobs, housing, and a better way of life. We can see what happens with certain ideals and that is the reason you are leaving CA. Southern California has the nice weather (restricted on water use due to the lack of rain and the State has not build something to capture the excess water during heavy rainy seasons then waste the water flowing to the ocean. Or a desalination process with the ocean along our coast. CA was originally a desert). We have our earthquakes, but the most we can do is to prepare, supplies on hand if we cannot leave our homes, hopefully our private and public structures are well built to stand for earthquakes and just luck for not being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Recently, we had an earthquake, the phone alarm warnings were going off after the earthquake started and during. There was probably not much time since the epicenter was somewhat close in Malibu. In time and technology, alert warnings will improve, and we might get a few seconds more to take cover. Unfortunately, mother nature starts our wildfires and in the populated cities, the winds and electrical wires start it, and some terrible people cause the man-made fires. The best we can do with mother nature, be prepared with knowing and have ready duplicates important stuff stored and ready to pack up in the car or outside your home. Remember your plan with kids and animals and their needs when you need to leave. Clear out dried brush, certain plants /landscaping (cacti/succulents) will slow down the spread of the fire, and if you are in a rural area, fire breaks around your structures, and get yourself, family and animals out to safety.

There was a study done that says that the so-called "California exodus" is a myth. And, a lot of the people that *do* move out of Cali move back in again because the states they moved to (mostly Texas) ended up being hellscapes when they got there, with higher prices than they were expecting because they didn't think about things like property taxes, which are a LOT higher in places like Texas than in California. Sure, the houses themselves are cheaper, but everything else is what's going to kill their wallet. Not to mention their electricity grid is such a hellscape of its own that people have died in large amounts because the grid is not connected to the national grid (because, of course, Texas wants to be special) and can't handle extremes in temperature. In the Great Texas Freeze of 2021, hundreds of people died.

Just to give you numbers, at our highest in 2019, California's population was 39.44 million. Now, it's 39.03 million. A tiny, TINY fraction of the population left California. And also, you have to remember that in the middle of that time period, we had COVID, which ended up killing a million people in the US, so not all of those people gone moved.

When you said a 1-bedroom apartment was $3,000+, I thought that sounded low. Then I went back and heard you say, "Brooklyn." Brooklyn, NY is not as expensive as NY City, NY. If you live in New York City, New York, a 1-bedroom apartment will run you an AVERAGE of $4,473. As he said, New York State is expensive, but there's a reason the narrator mentions that the people leaving are mostly leaving New York City. The city is VERY expensive. America is enormous, so real estate within a state can be vastly different since the climate, the jobs, the industries in certain areas can be very different within the same state as well. I live in Washington State, 1 of 50, and it isn’t even close to being one of the biggest states, and it's bigger than England! I think 23,000 square miles bigger if my memory serves me right. I live about 30 miles south of Seattle. The difference in rents when comparing this area or other surrounding areas vs. Seattle is shocking. The average 1-bdm apartment in Seattle will run you $2,233/mo. The average in Puyallup, which is actually closer than I am to Seattle, is $1,571!

About 1.5 years ago, I quit paying on one of my credit cards. Its interest rate was nearly 20%. I got into debt from trying to survive through both the Great Recession and the Pandemic. Paying the bill felt pointless. The bank made it feel pointless, especially considering banks created the conditions for the Recession. Yes, my credit score dropped by 400 points and my reports will have negative remarks for another 8.5 years, but I was able to get my debt settled and now I'm saving money. I think I can afford a down payment on a house by the time the charge-offs drop off my reports.

0.3% population decline in California is not very much in a state larger than most countries that has been growing for so long (Great Britain would nearly fit into 2/3rds of it). Yes, the housing prices are too high, and yes, some people like Elon Musk object to worker protections, recycling and human rights - but there's a fair number of people who favor those things.

California here. Yes we have our problems and yes it is very expensive to live here. That being said, this impression of it being some sort of hellscape where people are fleeing in droves is massive hyperbole driven by people and cable news networks of certain political leanings. Lately it's been the fashionable thing to bash California and often by people who have never even been here. Excellent weather, diversity of cultures, food, climates, etc have made it an attractive place to live which have added to its high cost of living.

From what I have seen, the "exodus" from CA has been mostly due to *companies* moving to states where it is much cheaper to do business, usually because the cheaper states are offering the companies massive tax breaks (which are made up by increasing the taxes paid by the residents of the new states in various ways). I'm in Texas so I've seen this for a few decades. Part of our company moved to Texas from CA. The CA employees moved here because it was cheaper to bring seasoned employees instead of train local ones. The transferred employees sold their CA homes for $$$ and bought much bigger homes here in TX for 1/3 to 1/2 of what a smaller home cost in CA. Traffic is much better here, but it's started getting worse (and home prices higher) because of everyone coming here from out of state. People here gripe because of that, but I can't really blame the transplanted CA employees for that. They moved here because it was much cheaper + instant job. Meanwhile, TX residents complain because of the higher prices and increased traffic and that the CA transplants are "trying to change TX". Well, guess what folks? Change is a fact of life, and if my other Texans bothered to get to know the transplanted folks (from many places now, not just CA), they would find them to be nice people and they might just have their horizons expanded a little. Kindness goes both ways. And I have been to various cities in CA and it's not some hotbed of homelessness and debauchery. I've been treated kindly by every city there. I guess you get treated according to how you believe you'll be treated and how you ACT.

I was born in and lived in Southern California for 47 years, and I loved it, until...TERRIBLE policies ruined the entire State. Criminals have more rights than law abiding people. Homeless people ( A.K.A. dangerous drug addicts that choose to live on the streets) are everywhere and have as many rights to your property as a homeowner in some cases. The State has suspended parts of the US Constitution, and the Governor is working right now to take more rights. The mentally ill are running around lose, and causing uncomfortable situations for families. Hollywood pedos are being protected by the government. I could go on for hours, and I left in 2018, 100% because of bad policy and laws. Tennessee is the exact opposite of California. I just hope all the other Californians that move here, vote Republican across the board so it stays this way.

California is turning into a dumpster fire. I was born here and have watched as the state became overcrowded, overtaxed, and over regulated. Our Governor, Pretty Boy Newsom, will sign any lunatic bill passed by the legislature If you want to build a home here you can count on your lumber costs alone being 30% higher because all walls have to have studs that are 16 inches apart instead of the regular 24 inches. Our dopey governor signed a bill that mandates that no internal combustion vehicles can be sold in the state after 2035. Yet, we don't have, nor will we, the infrastructure to support all the vehicle charging stations that would be necessary. We also don't have the necessary generating capacity to produce that much electricity and we never will. It is nearly impossible to build a new electrical generating plant because of the red tape and the incessant lawsuits brought about by the environmental Nazis and the NIMBY'S.

The ppl that most put our state down are RIGHT-WINGERS who hate that we respect diversity, DEI, and WOMEN'S RIGHTS! Our governor makes sure there aren't any crazies running around with guns in their holsters like those red-states with their stupid "open-carry WITHOUT A PERMIT" gun laws! Imagine that! We don't believe in shit like that in most blue states...which trump openly loves! But, falsehoods about California continue and if the state is losing ppl, we love it! My daughter just picked San Diego over Nashville, Tennessee to buy her 1st home & guess why? The racism in that state & other areas made her want to stay home! In some parts of this country the racism is outrageous! The cost of living is low but the comfort level is also low if you're a person of color! NO THANKS! You can have texas, arizona and most of the South! Let us keep Cali to ourselves! Cali is such a garbage state. Tts expensive, alot of it is uninhabitable or to dang big. It's also having crime issues, a flood of migrants, homelessness, poverty...etc. None of this would be to bad if it wasn't supposed to be a democrat role model state. And of course there are bad laws and regulations. Crazy high gas prices. Again, alot of is is because of affordability. And it doesn't help that the state crushes the middle class, thus causing them to leave. Leaving only the rich or the poor. San Fransico has always been the liberal mecca of the country. There is so much wealth in that city alone. And yet its failing. This is what happens when you prize money and nothing else. Though if you want to get into actual stats, out of the 50 states, Cali as of this year is rated 40 for affordability, 48 for economy, 49 for education and health, 42 for quality of life and safety.

Up until that time, the territory north of the US was legally "British North America." The polite fiction known as "Canada", did not "legally" exist under International Law until it was "actually" created by the British Parliament in 1982 with the passage of the Canada Act. Prior to the passage of that Act, any actions taken by the Government in Ottawa could be nullified by an Act of the UK Parliament in London.
