In PTX's 10 year history, there has only been one change in the lineup! The original bass, Avi Kaplan, left in 2017 on good terms to be able to spend more time with family. Matt Sallee joined as a bass singer later in 2017. Every other change you think you saw was just Mitch and Kirstie changing up their looks... Which they do a LOT! 😅

Mitch can sing those high notes because they're mix or head voice for him. He is a counter tenor. Basically he was gifted with shorter than normal vocal chords for a man, and I'm pretty sure perfect pitch. Hitting notes seems to be utterly effortless for him if you watch some of their live performances, even off mic ones. His voice is a gift to us all.

Mitch had a pretty substantial weight loss and he changes up his look constantly. I can see how someone not too familiar with the group would think he was a different member of the group. But his voice never changes, thankfully!

Like everyone else has commented, the only "new" member is Matt. He replaced Avi Kaplan in 2017. Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie started the group and sought out Avi and Kevin. Mitch, Scott, and Kirstie were high school friends and were in choir together at their Texas high school. [Had to throw that in there because I'm Texan. 😊] And their voices are absolutely beautiful and evolving! 💕

Interesting that you thought PTX had "constant" member changes! Others have already corrected that notion, but I guess all of the changes in hair color, hair style, eye color changes from contact lenses (Kirstie), etc. gave you that impression! Mitch especially has changed his looks over and over, and there was a period in time where he was heavier and wore glasses. Kirstie changes her hair color quite often. Scott and Kevin stay more consistent with their styles. Matt is the only new member.

Mitch is what is called a Counter Tenor. That is a tenor who's voice range extends beyond a tenor (high male) into a woman's alto (low) range. Mitches range not only encompasses not only the tenor and alto range but extends into the female soprano (high) range almost effortlessly. Mitch has an exceptional voice indeed.

I loved your reaction. Pentatonix is an amazing group. I first saw and heard them when my girls saw them on TV. They amazed me then and they are still Amazing me today. I will turn 72 in December and will still be loving hearing them sing. I look forward to each new song but I don't think they will ever be able to top "The Prayer". It is one of my favorite songs and I have never heard it done better. When the light shines on them, to me it is the Spirit of God shining on his children. I truly believe God hears our prayers and I think He enjoyed that also.

Scott Hoying is the tall blonde baritone, Kirstie Maldonado is the mezzo soprano(rhymes with thirsty) and Mitch Grassi is a counter tenor which is the highest level for a man to hit. They grew up together in Texas and have been performing together since they were 14. When the show Sing Off was on the air the recruited Avi Kaplan (masterful bass ) and Kevin Olusola for beatboxing (he also plays the cello). Avi left the band on good terms in 2017 and replaced with Matt Sallee. Kirstie and Mitch are chameleons, constantly changing their looks, hair etc so don't freak out thinking it's new members. When Avi and now Matt sing the solo part, Scott steps in as bass. They are musical geniuses. Most of the arrangements are done by Scott (plays piano). Basically Pentatonix fans are called Pentaholics. Pentatonix doesn't do just covers of songs, they upgrade those songs!

As noted, Mitch is naturally gifted with regard to his vocal chords. You can hear it when you listen to him speaking (for example, at the end of the video, when they do their promo spot). And of course, he works at his voice constantly, as do all of them.

LOL!! PTX has only had one singer change in 2017. They do collaborate with other groups. But they aren't switching members around. 2:30 Mitch is really in his 'mid range' here. Mitch can go quite a bit higher. You will see sometime. 6:16 Yeah . . . They're pretty fair singers. LOL!! Not many groups of singers would try a minor 5th to major 5th flip and get everyone to do it together. Good reaction.

Thank you for your reaction. Their Christmas is great. You might try anything in their Christmas Catalog. No PTX has only had one change in the 10 years of their existence. Avi Kaplan bass 2011-2017. His Mother became ill and he just could not keep touring So Matt Sallie joined. Scott, Mitch,Kirstie and Kevin are the same. It’s just that Mitch and Kirstie change their appearance often but it’s always them!!

There has only been one member change, Avi Kaplan the bass left on good terms in 2017 and he helped Pentatonix find his replacement bass, which was Matt. You might think other people have changed but they just change their look frequently. Different hair color/style, different clothing styles or contact lenses that can change the color of their eyes. Mitch and Kirstie especially change their look in almost every video it seems.

Only one person left the group and that was due to family stuff and the Pentatonix schedule. He stepped down. The rest of the group have always been a part of Pentatonix. Matt has been a part of the group for almost 5 years.

Avi (the bass, dude with the beard) was having trouble keeping up with the tour schedule and it was messing with his mental well-being, plus his mother was very sick, so he decided to step back from the group. They replaced him with Matt Sallee, and that's the only change.

There are so many incredible singers in the world with different vocal styles from different genres of music. There are rap artists that love Dimash Kudaibergen (Opera 2; Stranger or Across Endless Dimensions). There are R & B fans who are blown away by Teddy Swims (Simple Things, piano version and Bed on Fire). There are easy listening fans who love Chris Stapleton's (Tennessee Whiskey and I Was Wrong. These are learning to listen to a variety of artists to gain knowledge about performers who are in categories they never thought they'd listen too and are being blown away by their talent.

No they don't constantly add new members. Only their bass singer with the beard Avi left the group and Matt was added as their bass singer. Kirstie has changed her looks by having her lips done, hair colors and clothes as well as the counter/contra tenor Mitch always has new hair dos and clothes.
