Do you have any tips for hiding the ring/hook on the prop? So that the audience doesn't see a carabiner?

Spider Line or Fishing line with a figure eight follow through knot or similiar. push the pin through the loop. As long as your prop is light enough. TriLine aka Tie-Line will hold most props even heavy ones though it's less invisible. This video featured highly visible rigging to show the mechanism clearly. The effect could be rigged with any loop that is strong enough to bear the load of your beautifully crafted prop. If the weight of your prop is breaking the mechanism you picked, then your friendly neighborhood TD should be able to help. ;)
