Kaccha Kairichi Chutney Recipe/ Raw Green Mango Chatani Recipe
Here's a recipe for a delicious green mango with grated coconut chutney:
Ingredients:
2 small raw, unripe green mangoes (or 1 medium one) - peeled and chopped
½ cup fresh grated coconut (or ⅓ cup desiccated coconut)
1-2 green chilies, chopped (adjust to your spice preference)
1-2 small/medium garlic cloves (optional)
Salt to taste
¼ cup water (or as needed for grinding)
Optional for tempering (tadka):
1 tbsp cooking oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
Pinch of hing (asafoetida)
1-2 green chillies
10-12 curry leaves
Instructions:
Wash and dry the mangoes. Peel them and chop the flesh into small pieces, discarding the pit.
In a blender or grinder, combine the chopped mangoes, grated coconut, green chilies (if using), garlic (if using), and salt.
Grind the mixture with ¼ cup of water to a smooth or slightly coarse consistency, depending on your preference. Add more water if needed while grinding.
Transfer the chutney to a serving bowl.
Tempering (tadka - optional):
Heat oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Add a pinch of hing and fry for a few seconds.
Throw in the dried red chilies and curry leaves. Fry until the curry leaves become fragrant.
Pour the hot tadka over the chutney and mix well.
Serving suggestions:
This chutney is a perfect accompaniment to idli, dosa, vada, pakoras, or any savory snacks. It also goes well with rice porridge or even enjoyed on its own.
Tips:
For a tangier chutney, use slightly underripe mangoes.
You can adjust the amount of green chilies according to your spice preference.
If you don't have fresh coconut, desiccated coconut works well as a substitute.
The chutney can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
