"In Tennessee, the sun's goin' down But in Beijing, they're heading out to work" Forced appeal to Chinese consumers is forced. 1) These lyrics make no sense in the context of the song. 2) Zero Chinese consumers will buy this song because this line in the song mentions Beijing. Stop. Please stop. You are just vandalizing quality art with these transparent marketing gimmicks.

I get the same calm and serene contentment from this song, and her voice, that I did when I first heard Fire And Rain by James Taylor. He is obviously a big influence on her, along with Neil Young, Cranberries, Elton John, etc. Some of the most interesting and eclectic influences across the musical spectrum. She is one of the most interesting and relevant "country music" artists right now. Happy to see that she's prospering and gaining ground, as well as popularity, despite the Bro-Country music dominating Country radio airwaves. Big reason why I don't listen to country radio stations anymore. Streaming is where it's at going forward, and that's a big positive for Kacey Musgraves, and artists like her, willing to take risks. The Band Perry is another. Their new album is not country. Kind of an electronic emo rock. They are not allowing themselves to be stuffed into any box either. Glad to see both pushing back against the boundaries of what country music is, or can be. Great music, at the end of the day, is great music, and will always stand the test of time. Golden Hour will be there too, in the end.

Just 'discovered' Kacey by hearing this song play at a local coffeeshop. Immediately Shazamed the song, which then brought me here to listen again to this, and other of her music. The lyrics, the instruments, the subtle twangs of banjo, the background electronica/new agey sounds that are incorporated here and there....some may call this 'country' (which I'm not a general fan of...) but to me this is more a hybrid type music... Her voice is so pure (and yes, I too love Alison Kraus...) ...the lyrics are great... and I love the simplicity of the beautiful video image that accompanies this song.

Was channel flipping when I heard her on Colbert. It's rare that I buy an album after listening to one song but that's what I'm going to do. What a beautiful voice singing such a beautiful and catchy song. Love it.

Pete Rock, her preceding albums are well worth a listen too. Country music has never been my thing but she's an incredibly talented songwriter and has such diverse influences. She's a unique talent.

Although this album isn't too bad, "Golden Hour" is a step down when compared to her previous efforts like "Pageant Material." If you want a good Country album, then I'd recommend the latter effort.

Josh M. I reckon this album is going to appeal to alot of people that some of her more twang-y tracks wouldn't have.

Agreed. All of a sudden, the media is fawning over it with some going as far as saying that "Kacey Musgraves [has gone] pop." I wouldn't say full blown pop, but on the edge of Country pop, some folk mixed in, and elements of pop music in general.

She fulfills her responsibility as an artist with an innate gift: to find the esoteric words and music to say things that we want to say, but can't. For many of us we knew she was dialed in from the first note of this song, but when she sang, "Old soul, waiting my turn I know a few things but I've still got a lot To learn". it floored us. Thank you, Kacey. A lot of us understand it all a little bit better now. .

this has a hazy late 90s vibe to it. she kind of reminds me of a country Mazzy Star

Kacey must be the most underrated artist of all time. I don't think there has been an artist with a voice as authentic and real as hers EVER. It's a shame though that this album probably won't get much radio time and won't get the recognition it deserves. But the bro country B.S. will continue to dominate the country music scene, even though it is not even country, because it's not about real people living real lives. Instead it's always about girls in trucks and guys drinking cold beer and inevitably taking advantage of the women to the sound of bad 90's rock. Its like they all have a truck fetish or something. I really hate what mainstream country music (if you can even call it country) has become, but Kacey gives me hope that whatever crap may be playing on the radio, there is still original and real artists out there continuing to make actual music that is worth listening to.

Michael Collier on point...but one day what’s so real will remain shining like Kacey and her music

I mean she won her Grammy and sells her tours and albums. Radio politics will always be lame no matter who gets a decent shot. As far as the 90s pop rock haha I’m just glad I can still hear guitars on the radio at least 😂🙈

I love her stuff too, but she's really not underrated. All three of her albums have reached #1 on the country charts ("Same Trailer, Different Park" went platinum), she's had seven Country Top 40 singles, and she's won awards from the CMA (New Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, International Achievement, and Album of the Year), and two Grammys.

Joel Schwindt if she would have came out 40 years ago she be more popular it's a shame that people just don't like someone who says something but their music!!!😎

Saw her sing this on the CMA's. She always has had an awesome style. Not a big country music fan. But I do like her music. I listen to the music on this song and it reminds me of James Taylor, Fire And Rain. My husband swears its someone else's song she's redone. I told him she wrote it with two other writers. Now I can tell him why it sounds familiar. I love her voice. This song ROCKS:-)
