Rustoleum chalk spreads easy, works very well. I've used regular Rustoleum satin black adding measured turpentine to thin the paint. My porch swing came out fabulous. Thank you for using different name brands of chalk paints, on your channel. This let's your viewers know creativity lies in the hand of the painter, not the paint brand. As always your work is flawless.

Thank you! I agree Rustoleum Chalk Paint spreads easy! I also agree the brand doesn't matter as much as the techniques! Thanks for watching!
@flybarbflybarb82273 жыл бұрын
Do you have to seal it? I like she uses different brands as well!
@367cuba13 жыл бұрын
if you're asking me did I seal the porch swing, I did not. I bought Rustoleum paint that is meant for outdoor conditions and by thinning it out with turpentine so it is not so thick to spread on when you start to paint it made the project dry time faster and easier to apply, note: when adding turpentine to Rustoleum paint it must be done in very small until you achieve the correct thickness, adding too much will thin the paint drastically. If not sure, best to test your paint with the turpentine you added to something like a piece of wood or other to see how it spreads as you may or may not need to add more turpentine to the paint. But if you wanted to seal I don't see why you couldn't, mind you I went with Rustoleum which has its own protection against the elements, but I could as well painted the swing with regular paint and then for sure used a sealer. Now on my other project I used chalk paint and finished it off with a sealer since this piece was going to be outside as well across from the swing under the patio and that come out Great and still holding up very well. The sealer I used is Minwax water based Polycrylic protective finish, ( Clear Mattie)... Love the product it gives a crystal clear finish, drys fast, and easy clean up. After I applied the sealer I waited for it to dry and gave it a lite sanding I did that 3 times regarding sealer and sanding, but 2x would have worked out well I just was having fun so I did it 3x's. Note: regular paper shopping bags will give you a beautiful finish when sanding. There are videos on youtube on which grade paper to use when sanding sealer finishes after it's dry as well as how to avoid bubbles when applying sealers, some prefer sponge brushes as a way to minimizes bubbles, and others like using brushes, either way sanding the finish /sealer, will still need to be done. Hope that helps you but most of all have fun. Kacha has a fabulous channel I love it, you are in the right place. To bad youtube doesn't have that option to post pics I would have posted my projects here. Have a Great Day, God Bless

Curious, did you apply a wax before putting the white on??? I would think that adding the white and using the spray bottle that it would reactivate the charcoal. I love this piece and want to use these colors on a piece of furniture. Is the rustoleum chalk paint different that it won't reactivate when getting that wet? Please let me know.
@KachaFurniture4 жыл бұрын
Hey Aileen! I did not apply wax before the wash. When doing this I always suggest letting the base color dry 24 hours. Also you cannot take to much time when doing the wash or you do run the chance of re activating it and lifting some paint. In case the worst does happen, it'll look like you distressed it. You may like the look, if not you'll have to try it all over again!
