I quite like the 16 talent in question on Kael, I used it prior to the update because it helps make living bomb more functional when your opponents actively work to try to stop it from spreading. Plus with the lvl 1 talent that makes spheres heal Kael, it can make the difference in surviving dots, etc by throwing out an empowered flamestrike and gravity lapse back to back. Also clap.

The 2 sphere charge is good for damage but the extra empowered abilities is the real winner with that talent. Trait cooldown is so low that with 2 chargrs you could be throwing out free living bombs everywhere at the least.

I think that the whole "Use D for W only" is overrrated. It has its benefits, sure. But D-E does more things than just hitting more targets. It also extends the stun duration by 50% to whopping 1.5 sec. Flamestrike has 1 sec cast delay. D-E, Q guarantees Flamestrike hit. When multiple heroes are stunned by D-E - all of them can get Flamestriked and have even less time to avoid spreading the W. Also - if you are targeting a hero who is hiding behind something, D-E can hit him unless there are more than two targets in the way. btw: Awesome Alex play.

Pally for the situation with Mei where she snowballed you in the keep: Instead of going through the two keeps and core you could have stayed near the wall and focusing it down (true one tower would shot at you but this gives you at least a chance to survive). :)
