It's time to get froggy. An old GameBoy classic we never got in the west. Often said to be on the same engine as Link's Awakening. We're looking at Kaeru No Tame Ni Kane Wa Naru's fantranslation, For Frog The Bell Tolls.

It would be neat if they did an HD upgrade of this game - but that's probably not on the table for any foreseeable future.

Perhaps Link's Awakening used the Kaeru engine when they were in the prototype phase but reprogrammed it when they were given the go ahead to make it an official Zelda title. Just a thought.

While looking onto some arpg for older consoles, I find a title screen fix for this game. And was like "what a dumb title". But looks like I must play it now.

the combat system heavily reminds me of tower of the sorcerer, a japanese windows9x classic mixing dungeon-rpg with puzzle-based progression (it's kinda hard to boot on today's computers but, having its own clut following, it has spured a few spiritual successors, like crystal adventure on dsiware or the more recent dungeonup, available on steam). i haven't been able to find if there's an inspiration somewhere so it may be completely incidental (it most certainly is...), but it thought it was intriguing enough to share ;)
