After seeing many works that depict their relationships differently, Crypton announced in a magazine interview that those would meet their ideal. So basically Crypton wanted them to be twins but they flinched (sorry, couldn't find a better word in the dictionary) in front of all the would-be-incest song so they dropped the twins thing. It's like some manga start at very ecchi, but later gets toned down for general audience. I seriously dislike this because I think it's sacrificing pride for money. You can see author's true intention in the very begging, and that is why I see Rin and Len as twins.

Rin & Len Kagamine are my favorite Vocaloid ever. There were made to be a duet singer set. First as lover then as twins then it was said they weren't twins nor lovers. In some songs there twins some songs there lovers. Vocaloid is like actors & it just depends on what role there in depends on what they are. Now as to what there really are decided yourself to me there AWSOME!!!

@Samis StillAlive No they were originally mirror images, but your right on the part, they did become whatever people wish, so do most Vocaloids if you think about it. Their in the same project diva package because they were also released together, just like if Project Zola were to get a Project Diva package, they'd all be in the same one.
