Lenses are GENIUS. Saves user time (since they find their result faster) and saves the server computation. It's one of the things that has always confused me about Google-why would I care about having like 200 pages of results?
@ProblematistКүн бұрын
Every few pages Google serves ads again. They also want to seem impressive through quantity. Even without lenses Kagi only shows a handful of results too.

Heya, I work for Kagi. We are funded entirely by our users, with no corporate investors. We source our results from multiple other search indexes and combine them for the most neutral experience possible, and give you features to boost or block any sources you like or dislike. We don't censor anything, it's entirely up to you.

@Lewisneva if I can run it locally (and because I can read code) I'm happy with that. Open source is amazing and I love it. What scares me is closed source, "free" software.

The only issue I have with Kagi is the usability: a search takes much longer to display results, sometimes 1 seond. And the design requires a lot more mental effort to find what you're looking for (e.g. links are underlined, instead of colored. Images barley never show up in a web search, so it's less visual. There's no fallback description for websites with missing meta tags). There's also a few a11y issues, which I had to find ways around. The contrast of the description text isn't high enough- I need to use an extension just to make it readable. And when tabbing through, I need an extra tab for each of the repeated shield icons, which don't seem to add much value, except clutter. I've also found Kagi not to play nice with certain accessibility tools, which is a real shame for a premium search engine.
@thislooksfun12 күн бұрын
Kagi has a built-in custom css feature that can solve almost all of those issues with just a little bit of custom css. No extension needed! (Source: I've been using Kagi with custom css for quite a while now with no complaints.)
@ProblematistКүн бұрын
The Kagi documentation on themes also has a selection of user made themes and a CSS code for removing the underlined links.
@AliciaSykesКүн бұрын
@ Yeah, just a shame it can't solve the tab order, fallback descrpiptions, screen reader support, or (most importantly) the slow performance when compared to DuckDuckGo.
@AdondeBoy16 сағат бұрын
@@thislooksfun1while the option for customization is great, I would say many of these are basic accessibility issues that should be included in the first place and the user shouldn't need to even know what css is to fix them. Either way I like the idea and will keep an eye on it
@thislooksfun110 сағат бұрын
@@AdondeBoy Oh I'm not debating that! I definitely agree that accessibility is important and should be available out-of-the-box. I'm merely pointing out that Kagi at least _has_ a way to work around some issues like that should they arise, while most other search engines don't. Ideally you shouldn't _have_ to use it, but at least you _can_

exactly, its there IF you want to use it capital 'IF'. it is not enabled by default and is meant for search like you said "I don't want to leave my echo chamber" you are most likely so used to not having options anymore, that you see them as a crime now... maybe... oooooh, i am guessing you are a apple only user.

Intriguing! I will definitely try it. But I'm sure it can't replace Google Lens, right? Unfortunately until you can also compete with Google Maps, which is probably logistically impossible, we're all still stuck using Google. It can't be a complete search engine without access to the locations around us.
