Raikhy Theatre came into being in 1933, followed by Naulakha Theatre in 1935. Next came Minerva, Deepak, Lakshmi, Kailash and Society etc. Raikhy Theatre was the biggest in capacity and had a big grassy park in the front. In the evening, people used to have Maalish and relish fresh Mutton Bariyani from the Rehris. The first movie I watched in Raikhy was Gemini's "Nishan" in mid fifties starring Ranjan followed by countless films. It is very nostalgic to recall those times. Time is never static and keeps going.

Please make correction, Minerva Theater was the first one in Ludhiana, then Raikhy, Naulakha, and Deepak. My first movie in Raikhy was "Nadia Ke Paar". I also remember the vendors in front of the cinema hall. I cannot forget looking at the still photographs of the forthcoming movies. These used to be inside glass casings on both sides of the entrance to the Balcony (forbidden class for us, we could afford only 5 annas class). I remember the ad for Punjabi movie "POSTI" with color song. You know how they colored it ? The projector man put a red, blue, and yellow glass in front of the lens. Very funny deception but 5 annas spectators did not mind. Do you remember the first movie when Naulakha opened after its closure in 1947? Do you remember which movie broke record in running in Ludhiana in 50's? Nice talking to you, thank you.

No sir, Minerva was the oldest, then Raikhy, Naulakha, Deepak, Society, and so on. I also saw Gemini's NISHAN at Raikhy but that was not my first. My first movie was "Nadia Ke Paar". Gemini's Movie SANSAR ran for 7 weeks in Ludhiana; that was a record. Remember, the 12 o'Clock show used to be at reduced rate and an old movie?

जाने कहां गए वो दिन शायद राज कपूर नेअपनी फिल्म मेरा नाम जोकर में इस वक्त के लिए ही ये गाने के बोल लिखे थे वो समय पिक्चर की तरह यादों से निकल के सामने आ के खड़ा हो जाता है मैने बहुत फिल्मे देखी थी रिखी में नौलखा में लक्ष्मी में सोसायटी में दीपक में मिनर्वा में मंजू सिनेमा में आप बहुत अच्छा काम कर रहे हो पुरानी यादों को ताजा करके वर्ना किसके पास इतना समय है वक्त को कुरेदने का भाग दौड़ मची है लोगों में उतनी ही बीमारी और चिंताओं ने घेर रखा है

This is first cinema of Ludhiana builtin 1933 when talkie movies was started in India.... this should be declared as Heritage building of Ludhiana and should be preserved, I have seen many movies here in my school time in 80s, like An Evening in Paris, Do Anken Baraan Haath, Milli, Ek Phool Do mali, Geet, Aap Aye Bahaar Aayee, Saboot, and many more...

From 1962 to 1966 I taught Mathematics in Delhi U before I came out of India on a Fellowship to do my Ph.D. I have been teaching Math after my Ph.D. I live in Maryland, USA. Nice talking to you.
