No one there to comment on Naulakha before 1947 or early 50's. CORRECTION: Raikhy cinema was built before Naulakha. Minerva cinema hall was the first (Oldest) in Ludhiana. Minerva theater was also known as Minerva MUNDUA, because the female parts were enacted by males. Before 1947, silent films and dramas were shown here. After the owner of Nulakha left for Pakistan, the cinema stayed closed for two years. If I remember correctly, Kali Ghata (Kishore Sahu's) was the first movie after reopening. The next one was SARGAM. Also, an authentic war movie " FALL OF BERLIN" I was impressed with its ceiling, it had shining stars and moon Crescent all over. Its baxoffices were the most organized. And its frontyard garden was the most beautiful and green. There were no structures in front. The land between the Govt. High School (my school) and Raikhy cinema was all vacant. Mr. Malhotra and Mr. Thapar are too young to remember the scenes of my times. May be their Dads will give you more details. I remember Mr. Malhotra's Binny shop I Chaura Bazar and its competitor DCM outlet operated by Mr. Puri In my days, the tickets were 5 Annas, 10 Annas, Rs. 1.25, and Rs. 2.50 only. The black market was only for 5 Annas tickets. The first choice of the distributors for the release of a film used to be Raikhy (before DEEPAK opened in 1950). The movie NAGIN was released in Naulakha and it broke all records and ran for 30 weeks. The previous record was set by Gemini's SANSAR for 7 weeks. The average run for a film used to be two weeks. The site where I see the signs LOVEY NO 1 used to be a Dhaba known as SANTU DA SAAG TE MAKKI DI ROTI. And there was Ludhiana's only petrol pump (BURMAH SHELL) across the road on GT road. There were no shops along the boundary of the school; it was very quiet area. The compound of the school was the best among all the schools in Ludhiana. I studied there from 1951 - 1955 before I shifted to SDP High School on Hazoori Road. The first color movie AAN was released in DEEPAK and so did AWARA. Deepak was the favorite of the Elite for showing English movies on Sundays at 12 noon. Mr. Suri was the manager of DEEPAK. Please find people who can comment on times before 1947 or early 50's; it will be nice to share memories. Thank you Mr. Malhotra and Mr. Thapar Ji. Mr. Thapar may be my relative ( My Nana's name was Ram Chand Thapar of Nauhghara) his sons : Nathu Ram Thapar, Wazir Chand Thapar, and Banarsi Dass Thapar. Thank you, Dr. Shripaul Ji and Mr. Navjot Singh Ji
