Awesome. So much fun catching kahawai with lures😊. Funny how people see you catch fish and want your spot ae 😂😂. Same happened to me yesterday after i caught a kahawai a guy decided to cast his line over mine 🤦♂️.sad to see the kahawai like that in the bucket
@Fishingreminder10 ай бұрын
cheers mate, haha yeah that happens quite a lot, eh Sometimes it's funny and sometimes it's just annoying :) In Germany, in order to be allowed to go fishing you have to first pass a test and then you get a fishing license. Part of the test is that you need to know how to kill and handle your catch humanely. Now I hate bureaucracy but seeing how some people handle fish and deal with their catch, I think it's perhaps not such a bad idea to have such a requirement.

OMG ! That’s just about where I park my truck just up by the stream, then I usually across from there and fish the lower islands for sea run and that’s where I’m about to spend my arvo in ten minutes. Once again epic video and hopefully there’s more to come of the lakes, maybe a video trawling on lake Benmore and catching salmon? 😘

Hopefully next time we'll get to do a little session together. That would be fun! Some content from the lakes will be coming up soon as well :)

Last time I was there I was using my soft bait combo and snapped the rod after the 2nd 60+CM model so went and got my boat combo with 20LB line had no problems after that wanted to take the limit that day as I dont get many chances to go but after 10 I was too Buggered to carry on LOL Great Video I was filming the kahawai there but lost the video as my phone died was stretching for at least a hundred metres from the mouth out to sea and so thick the bodies were partially out of the water you could almost grab them with your hands from the beach

it's amazing out there when the kahawai are running, eh

As it happens there was no wrong time to fish the Kahawai at the Waitaki River Mouth during the 2023 & 2024 years. There were so many fish there you could have walked across them. And the fish limit is 15 per day per fisherman. ( Just far to many in my opinion ). I am glad you took the time to mention the cruel practices about fish caught and dispatched by New Zealanders. I know it is not the same for everyone but in my opinion of what I witnessed down there this and last year there are many who just don't get it of just don't care. I am sure you saw many other people actually snagging fish in all parts of the fish's body as well. ( Hard to watch ) Any lure silver or gold normally does the trick for Kahawai, I think it comes down to personal choice. I prefer light and 7-10gm, with single hooks for better hook up's and easier to release. Thankyou for another great video.

Thanks for the comment Maurice. Yeah it's very sad to see how disrespectfully some people treat their catch. Maybe we need to introduce a license for fishing where people are required to take a course and learn about regulations, conservation and handling fish.

Nice video bro. Love that you show respect to the fish. That bucket with the tails hurt my heart to see. That definitely was disgusting behaviour. 💙

I know we saw a lot of suffering fish while we are out there. Just can't get that WHY they can't kill the fish right after the catches.
@Fishingreminder10 ай бұрын
cheers mate, yeah it always hurts my heart too. People who are unwilling to treat their catch with respect shouldn't be allowed to fish.

What would be a good size and weight rod for lure fishing like this? Thankyou
@Fishingreminder3 ай бұрын
I just use a soft bait rod, works well for me. You want to go light weight, it's more fun. Up to 30gram casting weight should be plenty for the type of lures you need for kayawai.

Advertising fishing spots, hunting spots, seafood spots ruin those spots in the end. Hey fella, what's your pin number to your bank account....... that's how you treat NZs scenery. You enjoy it. catch a fed and leave your footprints. Don't be a wannabe look at me... and advertised it . Another spot that will be hammered....
@walkintomydream72083 күн бұрын
Hey mate, I don't agree with you. Why do fishing spots have to be such a big secret? There are plenty of publications like fishing magazines, articles, and newsletters that share great fishing spots in various locations. Some even charge for the same information. I think it's better to share and discover new spots together, rather than just sticking to your usual pond.
