Hi there. I suspect you're not the only customer with a leaky Jayco. I noticed, I think, that you don't seem to slot one of the 'ribs' on the jockey tube into the cut-out on the latch plate? I'm not trying to be a smart-arse. My friend's father told me once that I wasn't doing it right, either. Certainly ensures that the jockey wheel stays in place.

All Jayco's fall apart and leak, look at them at the dealer and they are falling apart and unfinished. I would never buy one.

@Fishingreminder4 күн бұрын
yeah, but honestly you only need one seat, most of the time I don't use it at all because it's more comfortable to sit on the sides anyway.
@supersonic2493 күн бұрын
@Fishingreminder yeah I'm more concerned about the air deck actually a fish flapping around with spines or some treble hooks hanging out of its mouth could get interesting on there.
@Fishingreminder3 күн бұрын
@@supersonic249 I usually take a big cutting board with me or use to top of my chilly bin or even the seat to handle the fish. You'd normally land them in a net, so with a bit of care this isn't really a problem. I had a few small pin holes from fish spines over the years but it takes forever for the air to leak out and easy to fix with a bit of glue and small patch.

I would never buy a Jayco. they are rubbish quality
@Fishingreminder4 күн бұрын
yeah they are, although there aren't really a lot of alternatives. The other caravan brands have also lot's of issues. English caravans leak and fall apart, especially on rough roads. Other Australian brands don't seem to be much better than Jayco and most are just copy cats. I'm not sure if there is any caravan brand you can truly trust. At least Jayco is the biggest and you can get spare parts and support if needed.

We had the same bathroom roof leak on the other side! The plastic capping on the roof is a design weakness unfortunately.
@Fishingreminder4 күн бұрын
Yep, that plastic capping is definitely a design flaw. 😩 Prone to cracking and not properly sealed underneath. Eternabond over the seams of the plastic cover seems to have fixed the issue for me now.
@fisheatrepeat5 күн бұрын
Oh, mate, this is terrible. I actually always assumed that caravans were made of Poly panel. I definitely wouldn't have thought that they were made from plywood. That's quite disappointing. I hope you sort it all out great video mate.
@Fishingreminder4 күн бұрын
thanks man, yeah most are plywood. There are a few brands now that do composite panels I think. But I guess for structural things like the grab handle frame they would still use wood. It all wouldn't be much of a problem if there was no leak :) I got it all fixed now, at least I know where the issues came from so can keep an eye on it now.

We had a Jayco and the first year and a half it started leaking all over, fixed it and sold it real disappointing the sealant is not good.
@Fishingreminder4 күн бұрын
yeah they don't seem to seal them properly in the factory. I guess the guys who work on those caravans don't really care and aren't caravaners themselves. The best action after purchasing a caravan is to get up there and re-seal everything and then re-check every couple of months for any cracks. It's not too difficult to seal them, it's just something you don't expect to do on a fairly new van.

@Fishingreminder4 күн бұрын
haha, yeah you're probably right, although the alternatives don't look that much better either in terms of quality and leaks. The english caravans have tons of problems and other Australian brands seem to be just rip offs from jayco.

Yep great that you share this as we've had this in our 2021 Journey as a second owner, yeah the sealant failed with in the first 2 years, now in the third and left with the repair costs. this is a common issue for Jayco's caravans, and i've ready this too many times

@@matthewwren2877 I have first hand experience of this with our jayco. The construction and wiring (workmanship) has meant I have had to acquire many new skills and knowledge to keep our retirement dream "on the road" . I would suggest if I was completing a CV for a job I could list "caravan re manufacture " as a key competency😁
@eddiechalk8436 күн бұрын
Thanks for the video. I've had most of those issues in my 2015 jayco starcraft. First I had the internal panel de-laminate due to a leaking wall. It was well out of warranty but a local, independent, repair shop (not jayco) took lots of photos, sent them to jayco with an assessment that it was poor construction and jayco approved the repair. Second and related was a window leak that took weeks to find. In the end all the windows came out, the horrible mastic removed and resealed. Third I removed the wheel arches and was shocked at the poor design which is almost impossible to seal. I cut strips of fibre joint tape, covered them with silicon and lay them across the huge gap. Then more silicon before re installing the arch. I think the key to water leaks is obsessive inspections inside and outside because they are so difficult to spot.

Since you seem to be into GOD, you might want to read up on the bible :) I found this verse for you. Genesis 9:2-4 (NIV): “The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.”

Could you share the ceiling Resene color match info as you say yours was a perfect match. I've got some delamination to the roof cnr but caught it very early as caravan is garaged when not used. The delamination is so limited I'm about to try a syringe with glue in the cracked lamination. If I stuff it up I'll have to scape and repaint to match. Already resealed the roof. Thanks
@davidhutchison49572 күн бұрын
@Gazza-M i have tried to attach photo of the specification of the paint. I took several flakes down to our Resene shop and the lady matched it for me with a hand blended mix. The colour is Double Bianca (Y94-016-087) super gloss. I hope this helps. The problem I had was I could not successfully duplicate the stiple effect on the areas where the paint had flaked away. Sanded the the edges with a very fine sandpaper at the dimished the outline a little. In some lights I can see it but overall happy with it. I used superglue initially to glue downthe vi yl coating and thru experimentation settled on the super glue gel as the best as it does not run so easily and can managed as to amount applied. Hope this helps. If you anywhere rotorua. Let me know and I can show you the results

@@davidhutchison4957 Thanks for that rapid reply and detailed info. Mine is in the front ceiling cnr 5cm wide multiple crack lines then narrowing to 2.5cm with a singular jaggered crack line coming out some 40cm from the cnr towards a north south bed, so it ends above the wardrobe/bedlight in the ceiling of a Journey Pop Top roof. Starting from the cnr following close to front leading edge trim, none of it has flaked off with no water staining. As said its always been garaged, the cracking of laminate wasn't there mid September on a 5 day trip with only slight showers one night then it was garaged, Then early November it was rolled out again and I did hose it heavy over the roof and spotted the damage to the ceiling in the first day in hot zero rain conditions at a caravan park. So got it early. Yep one could see separation in the roof silkaflex Jayco use to aluminium pop top outer frame. So re sealed the roof and haven't started the inner ceiling repair, but with Inland east coast Au heat it will fully dry it out before I attempt the fix. Bought some modelers Revell Contacta Cement with built in syringe, but will take note of your gel recommendation now. Then re the fine crack lines provided I don't damage it, l was going to lightly dab Sikaflex white Pro+ on the end of Bamboo BBQ stick and spread lightly over the crack lines and the stiple effect will help hide the dabbing of the white Sikalfex, Thanks again for your response and it will help others checking this out too. Have a Great Xmas.
@Gazza-M2 күн бұрын
Adding a bit more, Whilst have the modelers Revell Contacta Cement with built in syringe as mentioned. Due to your comments I just ordered from a craft/bead shop in Brisbane fine straight and curved syringe needles in varied sizes and several push pumps injectors. Along with a 80g gel glue they use. Figured curved needles might help with access close to ceiling and straight ones might penetrate deeper into the crack. See what happens when I try. Hopefully l wont have to use your paint code.

Had a similar issue with our Dmax, turns out the factory are a bit stingy with the rood panel sealant, a good friend and windscreen installer fixed it up for me, so get your roof seams sealed as well while your in that area, good vid by the way 🙂
@Fishingreminder12 күн бұрын
thanks man, good tip. I think I narrowed the leak down to the the top left corner (passenger side) of windscreen. If I cover this up with a tarp it won't leak but if I move the tarp up a bit and expose the top corner I'll get water dripping, pretty much instantly. It's seems not to be an easy job to remove the windscreen and re-seal. So I'm thinking maybe I can squeeze in some windscreen sealant and try smoothing it out with a soapy wet q-tip or something.

@@JennyJohnston-e5f Awesome, thanks for that, I will try same way. Did you figure out where exactly the water came in? We have friends with exactly the same water damage as well on both sides, cabinet and shower. It seems to be a very common issue with these Jaycos then. There is a lot of water pooling in the back corners on the roof. Perhaps a tiny little crack in the sealing will make it leak in ...
