Kahn's Reggae Production Corner - Ep 1 : REGGAE THEORY and DRUMS

DM Kahn

Күн бұрын

In this first episode of KRPC, Kahn talks about the difference between rock and reggae, the foundation of where the reggae beat comes from, and then begins making a drum beat in Logic Pro X.
He uses samples taken from a snare that Jah Servant recorded, and shows photos of how the snare was dampened, tuned, and the mic positioning for a snappy 80's reggae snare. Kahn shows techniques on drum fills, EQing and compressing drums, setting up a drum bus, and finishes off with adding reverbs to sweeten the sound.

@DMKahn
@DMKahn 8 жыл бұрын
+Frank Gerrits I used the gain in EQ before I even decided to throw on the SSL module. I could have easily done it in the SSL, I just decided to throw on an EQ for gain purposes before I started recording that segment. Hope this helps!

KICK DRUM and BASS. i have a question: how would you do the sound of a kick drum and bass like one in the songs "Africa Unite" (Bob Marley) or "Jah Say" (Burning Spear)? it's kinda like "pumping" ("pfff-pfff-pfff", rather than "p-p-p"), as well as the bass...
