Banchhanidhi Mohanty presented a rare combination of being a poet, singer and freedom fighter to have published recordings. Born in 1897 in Eram village of Bhadrak, he had an inclination to music from his school days and learnt music from one Baishnav Charan Das. While studying at Ravenshaw College at Cuttack in 1911, he came in contact with eminent musician Kavimanjula Krushna Prasad Basu and well known author Lakhmikanta Mohapatra which further honed his music and literary skills. His satires on Simon Commission, Round Table Conference and elites of the time hankering after British positions were popular. He actively participated in the Non-Cooperation movement, Salt Satyagraha . He used theatre and song to propagate the message of the freedom movement. While attending a meeting at Delanga in Puri District 1938 which was attended by eminent freedom fighters , he was infected with a fatal disease and breathed his last at Bhadrak. In total Three records were released by Banchhanidhi Mohanty . It was left to Megaphone for issuing his records. Megaphone was established in 1929 by J.N.Ghosh with a view to issue recordings of artistes , musicians whom he felt were ignored by the British owned Gramophone Company Ltd. This recording ‘Kahun Aaeele Bideshi Bepari ...’ was released around 1934.
